My wife and I have been coming to Aperture several times over the years, and every single visit has been great. We're actually here tonight to see Wuthering Heights, a movie she had to drag me to but if history tells me anything, I'll end up loving the experience anyway. That's what this place does. It makes you glad you came. The staff is always genuinely friendly, not the forced, robotic kind. The snack selection is excellent, and the beer options are consistently solid. It feels curated, thoughtful, and intentional--just like the films they choose to show. Anytime my wife suggests we go see a movie, I immediately say, "Let's go to Aperture," instead of one of the big box theaters. It's just a better vibe. You're in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem, surrounded by great food spots, so it's easy to make a full night out of it. If you appreciate independent film, a relaxed atmosphere, and a theater that actually feels like part of the community, Aperture is the move. We'll keep coming back.

We loved having the small theater to ourselves! The snacks/drinks are a little pricey, but that's what you get with most movie theaters. This one offers some of the best snacks though! Some stuff you don't see usually. They also serve beer/wine along with sodas, and they allow you to bring in coffee from the shop they share space with. We just visited again to see Superman and we're in a bigger theater (it seated 82). Again, an awesome experience. If you haven't checked it out, you should! They don't play every movie that comes out, but it's worth the trip if they're playing something you wanna see.

I was like, "Where is this???" We drive down that road all the time and had no idea it was even there! What we loved about it is that it's not one of those fancy theaters. It's an independent local theater that's definitely a little outdated, in the best vintage way! We don't need reclining seats or 3D to enjoy every movie. Sometimes all you want is a big screen and theaters like Marketplace Cinema are getting harder to find these days. The best part? Tickets were only $9 for us and just $7 for my college son! These groups of comedians did not come to disappoint as they approached everything from crowd interactions to tongue-in-cheek monologues performed. Marriage, modern day behaviors and protruding manholes were just a boisterous bit of memorable subjects discussed, leaving the crowd both stunned and stuck in their seats, doubling over with laughter. Myself (and my friends that I brought along) arrived just 15 minutes before the sold-out show only to enter a jam-packed theater house full of comedy-lovers. Seated directly in the front row (because there were absolutely no other available seats), I confess to feeling a tad bit anxiety over the possibility of becoming one of the comedians' targets to tease... but as the show commenced, I/we was/were left more than thrilled to have the best seats in the entire house! We got our tickets and a drink and a popcorn each. Like I said in the beginning, it had been a while since I was last in a movie house. It was almost $70 bucks for two people and I used my veteran discount on the tickets or it would of been more like eighty. The theater itself was nice enough, but nothing fancy. It actually looked a little dated and dirty. Okay sound and a fair screen, my tv at home has a better picture in my opinion. It used to be an inexpensive way to go out, going to the movies. No more. I have recently gotten back into going to the movies and this one was a good experience for me. One of the greatest things I like about this theater is there was not an excessive amount of previews. The previews have seemingly gotten out of hand!!! (30-45 mins of previews, is NUTS) You have the option to reserve seats which I love. The chairs are super comfy, they recline---woohoo! I find this to be a stupendous addition, which happens to be the VERY nice sized trays for your snacks. I noticed that some complained about the sound and the cold temperatures. I was in theater 2 which is a smaller viewing room, which I really enjoyed. The sound? Normal theater sound to me. I don't recall my Apple Watch picking up excessive sound. Cold? I always make sure I wear a sweater or a hoodie to the theater so no complaint there. I did however notice when I was leaving that people actually brought blankets in with them. The only complaint I have is the popcorn. The small is HUGE for one person. It was about $9 and it was super meh. I guess the hot butter is not an option? I didn't ask, I guess I didn't need it anyway. It was also lacking salt. There is an option to purchase the popcorn seasoning by Kernel Seasons though. All in all, I am ecstatic that this theater is open (ok, I know, I'm late, but whatever...lol). I will be a frequent guest.
