I live in Clearwater and have a large group of family in town. 11 people. We decided to go to KP Hole to rent some Kayaks and paddle the rainbow river. Ive been there many times and its always been great. Even went last forth of July at 9am and got on the river fine without any issues. Well This past Sunday (July 19th 2020) we decided to go. I knew we had to wake up early because it gets busy so I got everyone up at 5am and we left clearwater at 6am and got there around 8:15am. I thought this would be plenty early but I was wrong. The park was full! I asked the person out front what time you need to get here and he said people start lining up at 6:30-7am! This is absolutely crazy since they open at 8am. I have been many times over the past few years and its never been like that. Did this place all of the sudden become super popular? So after we couldn't get in there I called around to all the springs in the area. Called Chassohowitzka, crystal river, weekee wachee and all were fully booked by 9am on a Sunday. Im not sure whats going on around here but if you want to go to the springs on a weekend during ther summer you better get there an hour before they even open. Unfortunately my large group drove all the way there and back for nothing. We ended up going to the Dunedin Causeway and paddling out to Caladesi Island. Plenty of kayaks to rent there. I plan on taking them back to one of the springs this week during the week. I probably wont ever try to go to a spring on a weekend in the summer time ever again. Moral of the story is go to the springs during the week or arrive there at 7am. Other than the place being way over crowded with not enough access points for paddlers its a pretty nice river and I enjoy paddling and free diving in it. read more

So... here I am on a family vacation in crystal river. I get to the location where I was greeted by a unpleasant gamer boy who totally grinds fortnite all night. He was rude to me for no reason and was no help to me at all when I was asking questions on where to park. I then turned around and asked the woman(I think) at the next lot. A total Karen, she was yelling in a deep voice which frightened my family. I will not be returning to KP Hole... onto the state park! read more

Happy COVID 19 4 th of July. Tried to float down the river today and got there to find out they were not renting out tafts ir letting you take your own. Checked the website all week for updates. All it said is ck our site for the 4th ours. We rented an Air bnb drive 2.5 hours, got up drove 15 miles there this morning to turn around and come home. Not to mention they don't answer the phone! KP hole is a natural spring fed river in Florida in KP state park. The water is always cool and refreshing even in the dead of the Florida summer. With tubing and kayaking for all ages. Guided tours and boat rides are another favorite of people. There is all kinds of natural wildlife to see and enjoy. Being in a state park its very affordable for a family as well. They do have a snack shop for some drinks and light food. Picnic tables, a swimming area, and on and on. Very relaxing on a hot 90 plus Florida day. read more

Worst set up for a spring ever drove 3 hours from Port Saint Lucie just to get turned around 5 minutes after the park opened absolutely pissed off finally got in from a hole in wall place just for them to tell us we can't bring our own tubes that we bought from them a year ago super disappointed they need a better system. read more

I didn't know you had to pay to get in the water. It's $5 for swimmers and $10 for tubers. No alcohol. They're really strict about it and if you try to sneak it past them, they'll give you a citation. Also no disposable containers. So if you bring any drinks, they have to be in a reusable water bottle. It's a good three or even four hours down the whole river, so it's an all day thing. Wear long sleeves or you're going to have to reapply sunscreen. We all put on sunscreen and we all still got burnt. read more

Everything about the river is amazing except for the fact you gotta pay to get in the water. You got your own tubes? Can use em! Alcohol? NOPE. Don't even try to sneak it in an inconspicuous bottle. They have devices to detect alcohol in liquid now. Looks like a flashlight read more

I've been to KP hole several times and always had a blast. The park staff is generally pretty friendly, and the river itself is amazing. I have always gone for the tube rides, never for snorkeling or kayaking. A few things to note: 1. The parking lot gets full pretty early, and they do not let anyone else in after that. Generally you need to plan to arrive no later than about 10am. 2. No disposable containers allowed on the river, so all food and drinks must be put into sealable containers. 3. No alcohol allowed on the river. "Fruit Drinks" and other premade beverages are allowed however. Plan accordingly. 4. It is a 4hr river trip, with a few locations to stop along the way, but no real opportunity to cut the trip short. If you prefer a shorter route, you can now launch at the state park facility which is only a 2hr trip. The state park also include free entry into the headsprings after your ride. 5. If you bring your own inflatable, the maximum dimensions are 60" across. They used to allow much larger group floats, but have since banned them. I have seen some people get in with slightly larger floats, but keep this in mind before buying or bringing a large float. It's also smart to bring one extra "dingy" type float that you can tie to one of your tubes to float any belongings, food, beverages, etc. 6. There are a lot of great camping locations near the springs, so it's often fun to make this a day and night trip. Enjoy! read more

Great tubing down the river. Four hours was way to long. The bus ride back was a joke the driver was texting and driving. She first watched a video of a horse jumping over jumps and then texted a reply to whoever sent her the video. We love this place. Great place to start either a float or kayak trip. We use this as our base. Nice to be able to pull into the launch area and unload. While I get the yaks ready my wife parks the truck, pays our $5/person and after a short walk from the parking to the ramp we are ready to go. We usually paddle upriver to the head springs and have a quite, slow float back. We have floated down with the currnet and then paddled back, but just be readyt for a workout. The payoff is getting back to the launch area and swimming in the cool, crystal clear waters of the river. Staff are friendly and helpful. There is a concession stand hat sells some food and ice cream but we have never tried any of the food items. They also have a vending machine that sells snacks and bagged ice is available for purchase. If going on a weekend or diring peak season, summer when kids are outta school, get there early since they limit acces to a certain number of people. Some things you need to know about floating on the Rainow River, first they do not allow any disposable packaging on the river. This means all drinks need to be in nondisposable containers, food in tupperware type containers. No alcohol allowed in the KP Hole park. You can launch a boat here but idle speed only for entire river. If you snorkel you need a divers flag displayed. They do enforce these rules on the river, especially during busy times. I have seen several people snorkeling without a divers flag and they were not disturbed by FWC or the sherrifs office. Have not even seen any law enforcement on the river but was told by staff they do make appearences and when there they enforce rules vigorously. We love this river and its pristine state. It is peaceful, relaxing and a great place to float, swim and enjoy nature. If you are in the area and want to experiance natures beauty i highly recommend. read more

This was my first time tubing down a river and it was a fantastic experience! I came on a Friday, so the river was not crowded and we were able to enjoy several hours of peaceful, lazy floating. The river was almost completely transparent - I have never been somewhere with such clear water! Also the water was warm - but not too warm. The trees and houses that outline the river are absolutely gorgeous. When you reach the end, there are no signs indicating that there is a shuttle service (there is a sign for KP hole that awkward points in the direction of the road, but no real indication of what we should be doing). However, there is in fact a shuttle that comes down every 10 minutes or so to pick up floaters. There are a few drawbacks. First there is only a 4 hour option (which I found was bit too long). Second, the water flow was not very fast ( we paddled a lot to get ourselves going). We were told by others that when there is an upstream wind or the water on the river is low (due to lack of rain), it can take up to 7 hours to get down the river!! Finally, it is hard to tell where the "middle" marker is on the river - so it's very unclear to the rider how much longer they have on the river. Small markers would have been nice so that we knew whether to paddle more or less during the float down. read more

The check in process was so easy! Paid for VIP reserves parking so we didn't have to worry about a parking spot. Everyone was so friendly! The whole park was very clean including the restrooms. The water is amazingly clear. One of the most beautiful places I've seen! Took our family of 6 about 4 hrs to float and was very relaxing! Will definitely return ;) read more

This is about the clearest water anyone can hope for (over 100 ft. plus). go there prepared They have a great website with cool pictures. They have tubing, boating, fishing, snorkeling and diving. This is an AWESOME river to go Scuba Diving in! I've always used Capt. Bill and his boat to take me about a mile or so upriver. And did a drift dive on the way back, roughly an hour dive. The water is very clear and about a constant 72*degrees. with lots of underwater photo opportunities. Between the head springs and K.P. Hole the max depth is about 22ft. LOTS of different types of fish to see as whell as soft-shell turtles. Ive personally dove in this river about 15 diferent times. and its always fun an breath taking as to how clear the water is. read more

K.p's landing is where all the tubers go to begin a four hour trip down Rainbow River. There is a parking area but it closes at 4pm and all vehicles must be out, so get there early and make sure you have at least and extra hour to make it back to your car. Buses will take you from the end to your car for a small fee. There are some pretty strict rules for tubing on the Rainbow River so make sure everything you will be bringing for the trip is in non-disposable packaging ( I usually bring a boat type of raft with a bottom on it to put everything in and tie it to one of the tubes, and I store chips and subs in Tupperware, drinks in sports bottles, I also bring something for my cigarette butts, and towels for the ride back to the car). read more

Fabulous river however unfriendly supervisor. On the marion county website no tube size restrictions are listed, however after driving 3 hours, paying at the desk and halfway blowing up our main tube we were notified our tube was larger than 60in and cannot enter the river. We payed $5 for air and were not offered any resolution other than to go elsewhere. They ended up refunding the $5 for air. read more

First of all, the customer service was awful, very rude. My daughter and I were about an hour and a half down the river when a terrible lightening storm broke out. It was the most terrifying experience of my life. I am obviously not blaming them for the weather, although I think they should have a better look out of the weather and advise people against getting on the river if inclement weather is nearby. We had no cell service as it was out in the middle of nowhere, therefore unable to check the weather. After we finally made it out of the water, in which it was lightening only feet away from us as well as hail, we found an awning that was located at another tube rental place. We found someone who had a working cell phone and called to ask if they could pick us up and they told us to either get back in the river and go to the pick up site (2 hours down the river) or call a cab. We had paid $7 for a shuttle service as well as many others that were hunkered down with us and they couldn't care less. It was the most terrifying of my life, I truly feared for my daughters and my life. If you plan on going make sure there isn't a cloud in the sky because if you need help they will leave you to die. read more

Horrible experience and customer service at KP. My daughter and I went tubing here when a severe thunderstorm hit halfway through our float. Lightning was striking all around us. Luckily, we were near an exit ramp that belonged to another tubing rental business (Nature Quest) and we were able to exit off the river. Had we not come across this exit ramp, we would have been stuck on the river with a chance of possibly getting struck or having to scramble to shore and trespass onto private property -- one half of the river was covered by wilderness and the other by private houses. We were able to take cover underneath a shelter along with at least 20 other river dwellers for an hour. My daughter as well as some other people that rented tubes from KP called KP to have them pick us up due to the severe weather. Everyone had a shuttle service included in the rental package. We were told no such luck because we did not exit at KP's designated exit ramp. We were told to wait out the storm and float for another 2 hours to get to KP's exit ramp so that they could shuttle us back to our vehicles, or to take a cab back to KP. We did not want to get back on the river after such a terrifying experience. My daughter and I as well as other river goers had to take a cab back to our vehicles for of $30. KP Hole did not provide instructions on where to exit the river or instructions in case of an emergency, nor did they have any emergency measures in place. We were basically on our own for the 4-hour float. They sent people out into the river knowing a potential storm was in the area. Terrible business practice with no communication provided to customers nor do they care. I do not recommend this place nor would I ever return. read more

If you're going to come for tubing,kayaking, etc.. this is the place. Plan to come early since it is time limited. I believe it's much better than rainbow springs which is up river. TJ was great in handling my parties needs and accommodations. read more

We do this once a year as a family. You can do the 2hours tubing ride or the 4 hour. The weekends in the summer are super busy. You probably want to get there at 9am. Sometimes they close the park and you can't go until 11 because they are full. We always park at the Sunoco and they drive us from there. They are so nice. They explain everything and take great care of you. The Sunoco tubing people are always right there to grab you when you come off the river. After 4 hours you're ready to be picked up in a timely manner. Also on the weekends there is a photographer who will take group shots. We ordered ours and love it! read more
