This is an old hotel that boasts some classic nuances of some other hotels I have stayed at some 20 years ago. There were only 2 old gentleman that run the reception, and it looks like they run 12 hr shifts.
Thank god there was a working elevator, because they gave us a room on the top floor. The elevator is small; it can fit 1 adult, 1 child in stroller and 2 large pieces of luggage. It's also one of those double door type, i.e. outer door of each level swings out exposing the inner elevator door.
They haven't upgraded to electronic door locks yet. They still use keys if you still know what those are. What I like about these is that since they have an oversized key chain, you can dropped them off at the reception when you leave and don't have to worry about it until you get back.
The breakfast was included with the reservation, and they recommend the coffee as it is truly good German coffee. Like other hotels, they provide the juices, bread items, cold cuts/cheese, eggs, sausage and bacon. The dining room is nicely decorated and has about 10 tables.
We reserved a double twin room and it was small (623). The twin beds are separated by a small bedside table. Don't try to push the beds together, because they're stuck to the floor (I tried). There is a large wooden table by the window. A small tv sits in the corner. No minibar, no kettle, no fridge. A large security box is installed on the wall, so be careful not to bump your head on it. The bathroom is modern but small. There is no separate area for the shower. You'll know it when you see it.
The wifi is included and free. It's very spotty, but when you're on, it's good enough for emails, surfing and youtubing. I had to re-log in every quarter hour especially when there are other people in the same room. The signal is better in the lobby area.
The hotel is located 2 blocks from the Sendlinger Tor U-Bahn station, which is on the U3/U6 line one stop south of the Marienplatz station, so you're close to old town. The Hauptbanhoff is only a 7 min walk away.
This is a good hotel if you're single or traveling with a friend. Since the beds are twin size and if you're taller than 6 ft, then look elsewhere. They do have a 3 bdrm suite, but I can't comment on that. It was hard for my 3yo to share a bed with her mom. So look elsewhere if you have a family of more than 2. read more
