Randomly passed this place while driving to Lexington. It's in the middle of a cornfield and looks like a converted Cracker Barrel. We had to stop, of course. Inside, what appeared to be the entire town of Campbellsville was having their gospel/bluegrass band rehearsal. And they were good! We shopped around while listening to a live show, and an employee fixed M's guitar which had been broken for... years. The prices are slightly high-- I guess there isn't much competition out here. But if you're passing through and love music, it's definitely a cool place to stop. read more

I'm a drummer, if you are too don't waste your time stopping at Krystal Music. Krystal Melodies would be a better name as they are sorely understocked on all things drum related. No heads, no sticks, none of the basic things a drummer would need in a pinch for a gig. I was looking for Remo Rings (an elegant, easy solution to cutting unwanted overtones from a drum) they didn't have these. That's ok, I went there as a long shot anyways to hopefully avoid waiting for shipping. The salesman said, "We have the muffs." Muffs are a way more intrusive system and not what I'm going for but I might've been convinced if they were the right price. Salesman didn't know the price and then I was told they didn't even have the other sizes I'd need to outfit my kit if I did use them. I told him no I was really looking for the rings. He said he could order them to which I said that I could do that too and he replied with something along the lines of, "Well you don't have to do that yourself, I can order them here." The internet is a thing. Music equipment is plentiful and can be delivered directly to your home. Stores that sell musical instruments are there for expertise and convenience of which when it comes to drums Krystal music has neither. To top it all off some young singer was filming something on the other side of the store playing around with instruments and whatnot. Good for her. The director comes over and rudely starts shushing me like I'm in a library. I walked out. If someone's going to be filming in your store and the actual business of the store is going to impede that maybe put a CLOSED sign up. Apparently they don't get enough business to warrant thinking that far ahead. They absolutely will never get mine again. read more
