Anyways, back to KOOP. The community sponsored station is run by volunteers and it shows in their programming. They play what they like and they want everyone else to hear. Listening to this station, is the soundtrack to keeping Austin Weird. Since it's all local volunteers, the music selections are as diverse as the music tastes in the Live Music Capitol of the World! Seriously, if you don't like the music here, just wait a little bit. Just like the weather in Texas! The DJs change out every few hours, and each one brings their own selection of weird music. You're not going to hear Top 40 on here. I like the fact that there's no real advertisements on this station. They're all public service announcements, and local issues that they talk about. The coolest thing about this station is that if you wanna get on the radio badly enough, they'll put you on the air, and provide the training on how to do it! KOOP's mission is "to engage, connect and enrich the whole community, including the underserved, through creating diverse, quality, educational music and news programming." They play a lot of commercials, but do some good programming. Their country is less Nashville, and more Austin, highlighting artists from the Texas area. They play a lot of the classic country as well. The DJs take requests and give local weather and traffic updates throughout the day. The radio presentation is slick and professional, with nationally airing ads played regularly. They also hold the annual KokeFest, a celebration of KOKE. It's some big country bands! I enjoy how many of their songs are about drinking beer, trucks, and prison.

I have seen a lot of very famous people come by and I have seen them bring in a local talent. They even play local musicians on their radio station, can you imagine getting your big break especially in your hometown? I am able to get this station through their website and the TuneIn app. The 24/7 programming will give a good variety of music no matter your desire.

It seems that they have to share their broadcast with Austin community radio, KOOP. But this station does the student body well- if you're a UT student, you can get on the air if you're interested! They'll train ya, and get you spinnin' vinyl in no time- you don't even need to be a broadcast major or anything! Got some good tunes to share? Sign up! The station is a community non-profit, so there's no advertisements like other stations, just the occasional public service announcement reminding you not to drink bleach or to register to vote. Informative stuff! They sometimes do special programs on this station, that are always interesting. They have an upcoming program on how to do a kickflip. Hard hitting! Ideally, this would be a good station to tune in at work, since you'll rarely hear the same song twice. I always hate listening to muzak or top 40 hits on repeat, which you'll never hear on this station. Tune in, turn on!

These guys do a good job of spinnin' those discs and jamming those vinyl records. Being that they're an Austin City Limits radio station, that doesn't limit them to one genre of music. ACL music series- the show, and the concert series have had music all over the map. So if you say that you're an ACL radio station, you can really get away with playing just about anything, there's gotta be some way that every major artist is somehow associated with either the show or the concert series. If you don't like the genre of music, just like the weather in Texas, just give it a few minutes, and it'll change. I do get sick of the number of commercials that these guys play.

Ron U. (Disco Duck) and Larry E (El Toro Brovo). They are funny as shit and you can chat live with them and request some tunes. I can't name many Tejano bands, but, that's where Google comes in. I've just recently discovered that I actually like La Mafia! They're playing it right now!! It's clear that our two Yelpers come here and have a good ass time. Not sure what goes on in the studio but they appear to get drunk or get the munchies (ahem) and cut up and play some really good stuff including occasional disco. Yep disco and other stuff. You don't need to know how to speak Spanish or even Spanglish for that fact to enjoy the broadcast. I love all kinds of music and while living here in Texas I have grown quite fond of Tejano. But, like I said I need Google. Now I have Google and the Disco Duck and wild man Larry E. I love listening to their shows and try to catch them on their usual Friday afternoons. Him and CJ had a great back and forth. Emily....my lord and bless her heart, she seems like a lovely person but she's as entertaining as watching (listening to??) paint dry. I'll pop in to 101X now and again in the future to see if it's improved any and I hope it does. Seems like we've witnessed the death knell of 101X in real time. It sincerely makes me sad.
