Kualoa Regional Park is a beautiful beach and park just a few minutes outside of Kualoa Ranch. My husband and I were looking for something to do after our tour at Kualoa Ranch. He found this park through our GPS and decided to check it out. The first thing that really caught my attention is how much PARKING was available. If you drive in Oahu, you know parking is a never-ending struggle and this park had plenty of spots. The park is really large with enough space for camping, picnics, etc. The park does offer two beaches. One of them is more open to the ocean which is perfect for anyone looking to surf, and the other side is more protected, creating a nice little bay for small kids to play. Since we had our little one with us, we stayed on the more tamed side and had a blast. Also you get an amazing view of the famous Chinaman's Hat from this park. The many views... Not just the stunning calm of the ocean that surrounds Chinaman's Hat though this rocky surface of the beach keeps many from swimming in the area I have vivid memories of picking various seaweed here way back in the day where we spend hours just searching is just so relaxing and therapeutic along with the sense of accomplishment taking home the prize. Whether you stumble upon this park with your drive around the island or a planned photo op of an event both mountain and ocean views are just so amazingly peaceful and not sure if you're aware but on a great low tide days you're able to walk up to the island is a bucket list but yet frightening of just the thought of it lol it can get breezy and though there are great picnic areas along with bathroom and lots of free parking so happy to have revisited a place that carries lots of happy memories. The spouse wanted to see Mokoli'i Island, AKA the "Chinaman's Hat" since we had some time to kill... We had a leisurely drive from Waikiki via Pali Highway and took the long way back via Kalanianaole Highway around the island's east coast. PARKING: Free and plentiful, even on a holiday (Labor Day). FACILITIES: I saw one set of restrooms in the middle of the long park. THE BEACH: There wasn't much room to lounge on the sand as it's very narrow and close to the water, so the majority of beachgoers were perched on the grass. Ocean & wind conditions were favorable on this particular day. I didn't notice any lifeguard towers. THE PARK: The grassy area makes up about 80% of the area, with a few shady spots from provided by trees in varying sizes. Views of the infamous island and gorgeous Ko'olau Mountain range from here are second to none! OVERALL: I'd definitely make the trek out here for a beach day. read more

This is a beautiful place to visit. They have a lot of different tours to choose from all the staff was super nice and they even have a café here that serves really good food. I would definitely come back again. We took the Jurassic Park movie tour and it was great seeing all the areas that were filmed in some of the movies. The grounds are beautiful just to go to drive around and the tour is awesome to see everything. our driver explained and had a good representation of everything that goes on here. This place is so beautiful!! The view of the mountains is gorgeous and there is a big grassy lawn where you can take it all in. It's a great spot for photos too. The beach on the other side of the large parking lot is not the most picturesque but it's nice to have it there! Bathrooms are the usual public park bathrooms- not clean and don't smell great but thankfully aren't as smelly as they could be. read more

This is always a great place to retake friends and family when they're in town for a visit. The Judd family are wonderful stewards of this 4K acre property on the Windward side of Oahu. Liloa and Uncle Sam were wonderful and very knowledgeable tour guides. All staff was very friendly and we'll keep coming back. read more

He was just the best tour guide ever. The park feels so peaceful and it was a nice walk on a perfect day. We would've loved to stay longer but we're limited as we had many other places to visit. all my years living in Oahu, I've never visited the Kualoa Regional Park. While I always head to the Kualoa Ranch, I never considered stopping by this beautiful gem to admire the ocean and take in the stunning scenery. I believe the perfect time to visit is around midday from Monday's to Thursday's. There's ample parking, and the park is relatively quiet. Most tourists are at the ranch which is across the street, so you'll have most of this area to yourself for family picnics, barbecues, or any other events you'd like to enjoy. Yes, it's a great place to kayak and snorkel, depending on the tide levels on specific days. I've had a great time there and would definitely return. I think you should too! read more

I used to come to Kualoa Beach Park with my hubby when we lived in Honolulu. It was one of our favorite spots for photography projects. Can I share a secret with you? It is one of the best people-watching places on the island. I love the spacious parking lots along the grassy park area. It's never a fee because it's operated by the State. In fact, I don't know if there were any beach park parking lots on the island that had a charge. Not sure about other states, but to my understanding, private businesses can't own a shoreline property in the State of Hawaii. Our usual route was from North Shore to Kahuku to Kualoa before going onto H3 in Kaneohe. I used the exact route on my recent visit to the island. I brought a friend from the mainland who has never been to the island and a friend who lives on the island. After eating all the good foods at food trucks in Kahuku, we were looking for public restrooms along the way to here. Ok, another secret. Kualoa has the best restrooms plus easy parking. What else can you ask for when nature's calling. read more

I came to Koolau Regional Park for a yoga class, and it couldn't have been a better setting. Surrounded by lush greenery and mountain views, the park has a calm, welcoming vibe that made the practice really special. It's clean, spacious, and easy to get to. Only thing I'd say is bring water and sunscreen, it can get warm! Otherwise, highly recommend it for classes, walks, or just enjoying the scenery. read more

While passing through the windward side of Oahu, we stopped at this park which has an up close view of Mokoli'i Island in Kāneohe Bay. The mass is a basal islet located less than a half mile offshore of Kualoa Point. Some folks have nicknamed it a certain term because of how the shape resembles the hat of an old school laborer of Asian descent. The preferred use of Mokoli'i means 'little lizard' in Hawaiian. The park was flat and very spacious. There were numerous groups hosting parties, picnics, potlucks, etc on that afternoon. The scenery wasn't as gorgeous as some of the beaches elsewhere in Oahu. I was more impressed with the mountains to the north overlooking the highway. Apparently, Hollywood must have also liked these same views at Kualoa Ranch, enough so to use them as backdrops in a few blockbuster movies. At low tide, you can kayak, surf, or swim to the island and explore. After reaching the shore, there is even a short hike you can take to the peak. We snapped some requisite photos and briefly strolled the grounds before departing. If there was more time and a specific occasion, then I would consider returning to check out Kualoa Regional Park in detail. For now, I gave a three star experience for our visit. read more

Love this relaxing beach and park. The water is warm, the beach is tranquil, and the location is so beautiful with majestic mountains on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. Many films and TV shows have been filmed in the area like Jurassic World, Jurassic Park, 50 First Dates, Lost and Hawaii Five-O. Look across the turquoise water to see a well-known pointed landmark known as Mokoli'i Island that looks like a hat, although the name means lizard in Hawaiian. Interesting to watch a helicopter circle the island. Saw so many wetland birds. Red-crested cardinals. White-rumped shama. Red-tailed tropicbird. Common myna. Common waxbill. Cattle egret. Mesmerizing watching them fly back and forth. Lucky to have a bird enthusiast identify what birds were in the area. Lots of free parking. Clean bathrooms. A perfect place to stop between the North Shore and Waikiki. read more

It is very beautiful here. I saw some people fishing here and the water is very calm. Good for just chillin and relaxing. The parking lot is huge so no problem here. There are a lot of ways you can "do" Kualoa Ranch. We chose to do the Jurrasic Valley Tour on the Safari bus. Jamie was our tour guide and she was amazing. You NEED to be on her bus. The Kualoa park offers an amazing view of the mountains and Kualoa Ranch across the street, which is simply spectacular. The last time I stopped by Kualoa Park, the horses from Kualoa ranch were running down the hill and it was simply magical. One of the best things about this park is the ample parking available. There's always plenty parking making it hassle-free. The park also has public restrooms and outdoor showers. Another great feature of Kualoa Regional Park is the picnic tables. My friends and I enjoyed a lovely picnic with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the ocean. The highlight of is definitely the view and access to Mokolii, also known as "Chinaman's Hat". The view from the top of the small island was nothing short of amazing. During low-tide it can be walkable, or you can paddle out. Sometimes the winds and current can be really strong- so be careful and never go alone! Kualoa park is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day with friends and family, with plenty of amenities to make your visit comfortable and enjoyable. The main attraction is the island you can see across the way in the form of Hat seen worn on a Chinese man back in the old days. We stopped in here after spending time at He'eia State Park for kayaking and snorkeling. This beach wasn't the cleanest we've been to in terms of natural debris washed up on the shore. But there really wasn't anyone there! Plenty of parking and restrooms were fine. We really enjoyed the beauty and serenity along with the scenery of course! It was very scenic - sitting in the beach looking at the water, we were right in front of "Chinaman's Hat" and the scenery behind us was where Jurassic Park movies were partially filmed. read more

We drove here after picking up food and looking for a scenic place to eat. There is a gorgeous view of Mokoli'i (Chinaman's Hat), so we laid out our mat and enjoyed a picnic in this beautiful park. The beach itself and water isn't as beautiful as other beaches in Hawaii, but for a park I have to rave about how clean it is! And tranquil. Plus there is free parking and lots of it! This park is most famous for the filming of Jurassic Park and those Mountains as the backdrop make for quite the view! Spectacular! There are lots of clean public bathrooms and they have showers, a necessity after swimming in the salt water. Even if I am not planning on staying at this beach, I stop here just for the bathroom when I'm heading to the North Shore from Waikiki. The beach is really, really long and narrow so it's never crowded and you can have as much privacy as you want. When staring out to sea you will focus on a small little island that earned the nicknamed "Chinaman's Hat" due to its shape. It looks like an acorn to me! The real name is Mokuli'i which means lizard in Hawaiian. In addition to the sand, there is plenty of grass and shade so this beach does have everything. read more

This park is located across the street from Kualoa park - home of so many movies from Jurassic park to Jumanji. My family comes to this park to go paddle boarding . The nice thing about paddling here is that the current and winds usually flow towards the shore so I don't feel like I am going to drift away since our boards are the blow up type. It is so beautiful being on the water and enjoying the views from the ocean. On a nice day, you can paddle to Chinaman's hat and check it out. There is lots of parking and the park is closed from 10 pm to 5 am. Bathroom facilities are good and there's lots of beach area to picnic. read more

One of my favorite places to take my friends to sightsee & take pictures. You have a perfect view of Chinaman's hat and Kaneohe bay. Tons of free parking, it's a great place to have a huge BBQ party, picnic tables, taking your dogs for a run or a picnic for 2. You can even camp there overnight with a permit, although they close the gates at night. The beach is a stroll for a walk thin stretch of sand, that is shamefully littered at times. Although you can paddle out to the hat, it's not the best place to enjoy a swim. One time we were swimming in the little cove by the lifeguard station and realized, there were 3-4 baby hammerhead sharks swimming along us, and although harmless ,I jumped out so fast so I wouldn't meet Mama shark! LOL Overall, it's always my go to place to enjoy life... read more

Scenic places of Oahu, Hawaii... Kualoa Beach Park is most known for its clear view of the islet called Mokuli'i (lizard in Hawaiian language). The little island is also nicknamed "Chinaman's Hat". There are amusing stories behind each name: The book about Chinaman's Hat is available on Amazon.com and has a great illustration on the cover of the book! The story about the lizard is an ancient Hawaiian secret (not!) and has to do with the Hawaiian goddess, Hiiaka, the goddess of hula (and she is also the sister of Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanoes). Long story short - Hiiaka chopped off the giant lizard's tail and it became this islet! Kualoa Park has several free parking lots and restrooms. It stays open until 8pm, but I wouldn't advise it since there are no street lights. The restrooms towards the front of the park have no lights either. It was kinda spooky in the evening... I'm sure that it's alright in the daytime. There are picnic tables and benches scattered here and there in the open field without any shade. The restrooms have showers, but I personally wouldn't swim here. This is a cool tourist attraction where people pose and try to arrange the islet on their heads or make like they're holding it in the palm of their hands. Give it a try! Note: across the highway is Kualoa Ranch where parts of the movie, Jurassic Park, was filmed! read more

We really like this beach park there's sand and lots of grass and parking. Every picture here is amazing no matter the background because you have the Jurassic mountains in the back or all the islands in the distance. There are lifeguards and facilities like showers and bathrooms. Our only concern was the exposed lines and pipes along the sand. There's a sea wall that protects from waves. The water was a little cloudy since it was breezy but there were tons of divers and snorkelers anyway. The sand is nice and the shell hunting is good here too! Highly recommend this park! read more

Great beach/park. The water is nearly crystal clear here and it doesn't get overly business which is great. It's a decent sized location, but not very large, but it's just the right place to get away from the hustle of downtown, but not desolate enough that you think someone might attack you. Kualoa Regional Park is arguably one of the most beautiful places on the island. We stop every time we drive; it's a great pit stop or destination. The park entrance is across the street from Kualoa Ranch; there are dedicated bus stops as well. Entering the park is a long driveway that takes you to the various areas and parking lots. On the right is large fields and an access road off the roundabout that goes toward the one beach in the woods. On the left are various lots. The park facilities include restroom/shower houses, and outdoor rinsing showers. Camping is allowed here by permit. There are large fields perfect for tents and volleyball nets, with plenty of space to spread out. The beach here is small and steep in many parts. The water changes drastically depending on the tides: at high tide it's easier to swim and boat, at low tide you can almost walk the whole way out to the island. The views here are the real draw. Inland you'll find the mountains and cliffs of Kualoa Ranch, out to sea you'll see the coastline, islands, and blue ocean. It's a wonderful place to relax, always quieter than easier-to-access tourist beaches and parks. read more

Located across from Kualoa Ranch this park draws you in. This park is a very peaceful park with an excellent view of the Chinaman's Hat. The park has a small beach, picnic tables, bathrooms, and pavilions. It looks like a hot spot for kayakers to launch. I initially stopped here just to kill some time. However, it was very relaxing and well maintained. Surprising it was not too crowded. Parking is free and was easy to find a spot. There were a few tour buses that stopped there during my visit, but nothing too overwhelming. The beach is very small, in the sense that it has a small sand area between the water and shore. If you are going to or coming from the Kualoa Ranch, this is a must stop and has to be put on to your itinerary. read more
