The park area has restrooms, showers, a playground, and basketball courts. The park also encompasses the beach area. Parts of the beach are rocky, and rocky in the water as well. Not the best area for swimming really, but it's a great place for paddle boarding or kayaking. Rent a kayak or a paddle board from one of the local companies and go on the hunt for sea turles and sea lions. I was lucky enough to spot two sea lions while in the bay. One surfaced about 10 feet away and was chowing down on a fish. The other one surfaced about 5 feet away and just hung out for about a minute, scoping out the curious human on a paddle board. They seem really used to humans. Once you're in the bay, head left and go up the Anahulu River to spot some very large sea turtles. This is practically guaranteed. It's a little over an hour round trip, depending on how casually you move. Drove over Haleiwa bridge and came to this beach park. I was hoping a restroom stop here wouldn't be too disgusting, and I lucked out! Restroom was not smelly, there were no weirdos around (as far as I could see), and there was toilet paper. Not all beach bathrooms are so posh. Waiting for one of my favorite thrift stores in Waialua to open, I thought I'd check out a section of the beach to the right of the restrooms. It gets rocky pretty quickly when you step into the the water, but overall this is a pretty dang nice beach. Will have to return with beach gear and some good company. read more

This is one of my favorite beaches on the island. Up in the north shore, there is lots of parking and they have basketball courts and restrooms (which were under construction when I was there a couple of months ago). There are usually people fishing and surfing here. Can always be sure to spot a honu or two here. I usually come here after I pick up a huli huli chicken from Rays and just enjoy the rest of my day. Can't wait to be back...... read more

= SEA TURTLE SIGHTING @ 1PM = It was my lucky day. My quest to find HONU GREEN SEA TURTLE took me to this nice quiet beach. Even though the water was murky, I was able to see groups of Sea Turtles feeding by the shore toward the right side of the beach. You would probably get a better view of the sea turtles if you stand by the showers in front of the public restrooms. Plenty of parking available. Good luck! read more

Our third stop was unscheduled, but boy, were we glad we decided to make this scenic stop! Just eight minutes from Paalaa Kai Bakery, this brief stop won't set you back on any time limitations. There was ample parking left when we arrived just before 11 a.m.. There were others like us (mostly tourists) who were just there to take in a quick view of this beautiful white sand beach with pristine, cool Hawaiian waters that many sea turtles have populated and settled. So, a huge plus that you can say you swam with sea turtles for free! Don't forget to have that camera ready for proof that you actually got up-close and personal with them. I swear my tour guide had a hidden agenda - we stopped here for an hour and a half because he wanted to swim. Prior to this we stopped at a fruit stand his cousin just happened to be working, by a 7-eleven and Jack in the box (like how is this part of a tour?) After, we stopped at a shrimp restaurant/stand where again food was underwhelming only to realize he got a free lunch for bringing the bus full of tourists there lol Then, we ended up at this park which conveniently had restrooms and a play area for kids but the slides had broken plastic which made them unusable. My 2 yr old and I made the best of it and chased Chickens all around the park which he enjoyed cuz he's 2. Adults got screwed though paying all that money for a tour which should've been named "Hang out with a local all day, see what adventure he will partake in today" read more

This park is a good spot to see sea turtles. I walked around the beach for a half hour and saw one sea turtle sun bathing in the sand. It is a beautiful beach with the mountains in the background. Unfortunately, I also saw an encampment of homeless tents at a corner of the park. For this reason, I would only stay for a short time to see a sea turtle before leaving. Another day searching for sea turtles brought me intially to this beach park. While I didn't find what I was looking for, I did find the beach was not over populated like some of the beaches along the Kamehameha Hwy. Nice large free car park. There is also free restrooms and outside showers to keep the sand at the beach! If you walk at the end of the car park and then head right down along the beach you will pass all the sun bathers and a slight bend to the right you will find a amazing stretch of beach not populated at all! Some small tide pools among some not to difficult rocks to browse around. Great beach off the main hwy! read more

Whats there not to like... the panoramic views of the ocean and mountains....... water is very clean.. (you do not hear of sewage spills in this area, not like in town or kailua side.) It is a stones throw to a lot of good places to eat before and after the beach. only down side is lots of rocks and reef and bathrooms are just like any other public park bathroom.....not very clean. I've been here around four times and each time it's super relaxing. If you keep walking to the right past the basketball courts there's a secluded area that seemingly five people know about. There you can walk like you own the place and see many more sea turtles surfing and lying in the sand. Note you probably can't swim there because of the rocks close to shore and the big waves but ive seen a surfer there so probably only for the experienced beach goer. There is a section before this area where there's a surf school where you can swim and probably snorkel. read more

One of Haleiwa's hidden gems is simply looking out to the waters edge and just simply gazing out the window of opportunity. Living in Hawaii makes it pretty awesome to be here and to be next to the water. The sun and sand does work miracles on overworked people. During a recent trip to Haleiwa in February 2017, Haleiwa Beach park was one of the first stops I hit up during my day trip up from urban Honolulu. Besides the fact that making a stop at Dole Plantation for a nice Dole Whip ice cream to relive my youth, it was cool there. I parked myself at the Haleiwa Beach Park on a blissful Saturday in February 2017. I felt like a tourist there trapped in a small town and basically there's just two ways in and out of Haleiwa town. Hanging out on the beach while people watching, taking in the sun and the surf, and playing Pokémon Go was the order of the day. I stayed here for about 3 hours before getting hungry and made my way into Haleiwa town to get something delicious. The beach park itself was quite nice and very user friendly. Not much people here around noon though, as I suspect that they were getting lunch somewhere or lounging around further up or down the beach areas. I found myself walking along the beach and it was quite relaxing. You should come here at least once, just to see the north shore and the quaint town of Haleiwa. It's where the big wave surf contests are held every year. My overall experience here at the Haleiwa Beach park was quite nice. It was very casual and very warm. Not to mention quiet, this stretch of paradise is known to both tourists and locals alike. I did enjoy the wide stretch of sand and the fact that there are plenty of opportunities to hang out here and feel like you are a tourist here, even though you may be a local kama'aina here long time. Its nice to come here once in a while when you're stuck in urban Honolulu for the rest of the week. Like all public beaches in the state of Hawaii, Haleiwa Beach Park is very much free and it's awesome to enjoy mother nature's beauty this way. The crashing waves and just parking yourself on the sand makes it quite nice and makes you wonder why you hadn't done it sooner rather than later. Haleiwa Beach park is located at 62-449 Kamehameha Highway here in Haleiwa. The parking here is pretty plentiful and you can get an exclusive parking spot, if you come here early enough during the day. If you are like me, TheBus route 52 or 62 comes through Haleiwa town, although route 62 takes the longer route through Kahuku. 52 goes through Mililani town. I spent a good 3 hours or so here at the beach park and it was pretty fun. While the weather was very warm and gorgeous on a fantastic Saturday in February, it was quite the epic adventure north of Honolulu, and I didn't have to buy a plane ticket. The beach itself is maintained properly and there are lifeguard stands periodically along the shoreline. I'm not sure when the lifeguards are there, but they're there, I'm sure. The sunrise and sunsets are pretty spectacular though, if you are fortunate to witness it there. If you are fortunate to be here, you should come here more than Oahu's south shores, since it tends to be less crowded and you get that piece of mind that you don't have while in Waikiki. Haleiwa is a hidden gem. Only problem is that it takes about an hour to drive here from town, or 3 hours (one way) by public transportation. Yes, I've clocked it. You may love it, as I have. Haleiwa itself is a small cute town too. Explore and discover its magic, if you come. Bathrooms are horrible though. Just a farewarning. 5.0 stars. Best kept secret on Oahu. Support local! Shh. This is my secret snorkeling spot. But don't tell anyone, because I don't want it to be crowded next time I go. Actually, snorkeling isn't the greatest here, as it is a very rocky, shallow beach, and unless you're wearing aqua shoes or swim fins, it'll hurt trying to get out to where it's deep enough for you to actually swim. There aren't too many fish out here, but what makes it my preferred spot is the fact that I've seen at least two huge sea turtles each time I've been. Other benefits of the beach include almost zero waves (good for paddleboarding), and the extremely close proximity to Matsumoto and Macky's Shrimp Truck. This = yes. The bathrooms are sort of dingy and dark, and they're a bit away from the main stretch of the beach. But hey, it was better than the bathroom at Kailua Bay, where I thought I was going to puke from the bird crap all over the stalls. This = no. read more

Nice beach to visit on the North Shore. I think if you're touring Oahu, you need to make at least one stop. However, now that I've been, I would spend the majority of my beach time at places like Lanikai or Kailua. One big thing to note: The bathrooms here are absolutely atrocious!!! It's dark inside, and for good reason: When my eyes adjusted from the bright sun to the dark, all I could see was horror. Put it this way: I had to go real bad, I thought I wasn't going to make it. Beautiful beach in a small neighborhood. There is a rental area right across the street. We came too late in the day to really enjoy it but it was worth a shot to come see because everyone tells me to come to The North Shore. Great to get away from touristas hehe. Didn't get a chance to hit up Matsumoto's nearby either, because it was too packed. This is on my list to visit again. If it's your first time in Oahu like me and you plan to do Pearl Harbor or the Dole Plantation this is just a bit further down from both of those. So it would be fun to do like Pearl Harbor in the morning then head to The North Shore area. Coming here reminds me of the movie Blue Crush! read more

One of our stops on the way to the north shore. Large parking area very close to the beach. Mostly quiet/empty, except for the paddle boarders & a few people snorkeling. Not crowded if you're looking to sun worship in peace. However, water is not clear & beautiful, was quite murky & colder than other beaches we visited. Also, sand was a little corse & painful to walk on. Even though I could take it or leave it, nothing beats the hawaiian sun. read more

This review is for the portion of the beach that is across from Jamesons. Gets crowded around 8am, then you have to park in the open around by Jameson's. lots of SUP! I go here at least one weekend a month to paddle board. Its great to go up the river then float or go out on the waves! The reason for the my 3 stars though is because this beach is so populated with homeless living right next to it at the park, sometimes the wall will smell like urine. We get to the beach as early as 6am and there are still homeless sleeping on the beach. The sand isn't super nice like most north shore beaches. Not a bad swimming beach but not a good swimming beach. The water can be really murkey but some days on SUP you can see everything below you. If you SUP here, you pretty much are guarenteed to see a turtle! If you SUP here, take advanatage of being able to go up the river! Its so peaceful back that way and has lots of fish and turtles and views of great homes! read more

Even though the beach park is in an area known for a lot of tourists, the beachpark is never really overcrowded. The water isnt as clear as other beaches around the island. There really arent any overbearing waves which makes it a prime location to Stand Up Paddle. Whats cool about the beach is that there are many sea turtles that feed VERY CLOSE to the shore. In the right location, you can be 3 feet away while theyre feeding. And they normally feed in groups. Its cool seeing a bunch of "turtleheads poking out" of the water often! Still a cool place to visit and it seems like every visit that ive gone, theres been turtles everytime. read more

I'm a little puzzled by some of these 4 and 5 star reviews. This beach looks OKAY. Out of the eight beaches we visited, I think this was the worst. When you walk into the water it's full of rather large rocks that take concentration to walk on if you don't want to roll an ankle. The water looks rather dark, and not bright or colorful at all. It's a pretty beach. The mountains. The palm trees. But there are dozens of other beaches with the crystal clear water and the shades of blue and green to get the fantastic and iconic Hawaiian pictures. My tip; leave early and go 5 minutes up the road to Waimea Bay (leaving early will help find parking)....you'll be glad you did. I'm my opinion Waimea is one of the most amazing beaches on the island. read more

Definitely not a tourist beach. The beach was small and narrow, and mainly locals hanging around. It was a quiet, easy place to watch the sunset, and experience a simple, easy place to relax. There were ample parking spots on a weekday afternoon and the beach itself was not crowded. I didn't see much food option or things to do nearby, it's more of a quiet neighborhood. read more

We go to the beach near where the park is. Not a lot of people and you are guranteed to see a turtle. It's kind of scary driving up because there are a lot of homeless people that live in thier cars but the beach is clean and less crowded than the popular beach that all the tourists go to to see the turtles. read more

Sea Turtles!! This is where you can find some Sea turtles as well. On top of that, the beach is super nice and you can learn how to surf here as well. They have the outdoor showers to rinse off after you go for a swim / surf. Lastly ... they have some amazing sea turtles in the shaded areas that come on the beach to take a nice snooze. We came here to surf and after getting our gear from a "nearby" store, we walked for 15 minutes before finding this area. The sand hurts everywhere you step since the trees that shade the beach are not very friendly. They drop small things that hurt =[ The beach itself is rocky and hurts when you attempt to swim. The cool part is we saw a few sea turtles swimming along the shore. Though, none came out of the water to say hi! read more

Shark teeth feel jagged, but when they are worn out by the waves they feel smooth. Some teeth look like big hearts. There's a band where the root lobe meets the tooth. Some teeth have little barbs on the sides coming out of the root lobe, so that they have 3 points instead of 1. You can use a sifter to sift the sand and find a shark tooth! You should go to Haleiwa Beach and I hope you find some shark teeth. read more

Haleiwa Beach Park is beautiful and relaxing. I recently visited a couple of times and I liked it. This is a big park and a lot of people seem to enjoy it. When I visited, there were people that looked like locals and tourists. They were having a picnic, playing with kids on the playground and enjoying the water. This park has two showers in front of the bathrooms. The water is cold, but they work well. You can even watch sea turtles swimming while you shower, like I did. They came up to the seawall and I took pics and vids of them. I took a nap or two here and I was safe. It closes at 10 p.m., but I left before then. I never felt unsafe and the bathrooms were clean and the drinking water was drinkable. I'm sure that I will return to this beautiful park if I can. I might even get in the water and snorkel beside the sea turtles. read more

Most tourists drive past this beach on their way in or out of the Hale'iwa town proper. Given that there are a number of other more "famous" beaches on North Shore, the locals probably appreciate having this one to themselves. During the week I was visiting, there were a couple of events that seemed to fill up the beach park -- lots of BBQ'g, picnics and canopies galore but, for the most part, you could stop here and find parking anytime. It's the perfect place to grab something (shaved ice from Matsumoto's or Aoki's, sure, but don't forget the excellent sandwiches at Storto's Deli, awesome smoothies from Lanikai Juice, ono-yummy shrimp and fish baskets from Grass Skirt Grill and delicious Thai food from Opal) in town and then sit at a table or right on the sand at Hale'iwa Beach Park and enjoy another perfect day in paradise. read more

I am pleased and fond of this beach. My honey would agree with me as I write this review. On the way home he could not stop saying that lol. The environment and setting was more intimate, family oriented, and not bustling with tourists and crowds. We didn't go there for white sand beaches, but more for the turtles. Unfortunately, I did not see any;(. He went paddle boarding while I tanned, and saw plenty of those gorgeous sea creatures. Any who the sand is not white or beautiful, but the view of the sky and water just makes everything worthwhile. The noise level was almost non existent almost as if this was a private beach. I did get sunburned on my face just laying out there for an hour and a half. Gosh the rays here in Hawaii is no joke lol. There are tons of shops, restaurants, surfboard rentals within walking distance. There are also food trucks and coconut stands which they cut and its 5 buckaroos. I was craving some shaved ice from Matsumoto, but the line was literally a block long. We left very satisfied from our experience from this beach only to plan another trip back here. I would've given 5 stars if I could have just seen one gargantuan sea turtle! Until next time......... read more
