This is a review of the ski trail from Sognsvann to Ullevålseter and back during wintertime…read more First off, I love this trail. It's a great workout for those who love longer ski trips (a total of 13 km / 8 miles). That being said, it gets incredible crowded during the weekends, so if you're like me and prefer some peace and quiet, you'll find solace in the afternoon/evening when there's fewer people. The ski trails are also well lit once the sun goes down, so don't worry about it being dark. The Ullevålseter cabin itself is a cozy little place where you can get something to eat or drink or just catch your breath. Just know that the selection isn't the greatest, and that it might not be the best food you've had. Then again, this cabin doesn't specialize in food, but rather as a place for you to rest until you go back the 6.5 km / 4 miles to Sognsvann. Oh, and you might meet a cute cat on your way in! Just don't let it inside. There's a sign in Norwegian by the door that clearly states that. With the ski trail itself, here's the catch; although there's technically two tracks going to Ullevålseter, there's really only one going back to Sognsvann, so unless there are very few people who are going back the same time as you, you're in for a waiting game. You don't want to be the person that crashes into others because they're too slow and you can't stop as you're going too fast downhill, do you? Didn't think so. So just be patient and polite, and we'll all have a good trip back. :-)

Well that sure was interesting - a whole park of over 500 sculptures by the same artist. The park…read moreitself is beautiful, free, huge and it's open all the time. No fences! It is a big tourist attraction so in peak season it can be busy but rarely crowded except at a few popular sculptures like the angry boy. For me the sculptures were OK and felt a bit repetive in style though they are certainly all different. We took the tram here since it is a bit out from central Oslo. One of the best deals in Norway!

For a different kind of museum take a train out of Oslo and up into its surroundings. The crowds…read moreon the train thinned out quite a bit and there was maybe a dozen of left to walk through the downpour and up to the entrance of the ski jump and museum. Admission was included in the Oslo Pass and was one of the more unique offerings. If one comes back in the winter then you can experience ski jumping for yourself. As part of the museum admission we did to ride to the viewing platform at the top of the ski jump and took in the almost 360 degree views. We also got an almost direct view down the ski jump. Personally not for the faint hearted but a very unique experience. Inside the museum they included a good variety of exhibits from medalists, evolution of Holmenkollen since its founding, history of skiing equipment and sport, a kiddie section, a ski making shop and more. There also were two interactive exhibits to test how much you could pull, as in a sled, and a skiing competition. A large gift shop was by the exit along with a ski jump simulator ride (separate fee). Well worth it. A Scandic hotel was located practically next door if one want to spend more time.

You can really appreciate the crazy slope when it's used as a jump. I have even more respect for Olympians and people who do this sport. Amazing!
