If you have wide feet I highly recommend you don't shop here. They have a policy you can return shoes in 30 days. They don't tell you if you take to many shoes in a time frame and still find They are not wide enough for women who have swollen feet as a senior. You can't shop there any more to find the right shoe. This is coming from the owners! I ordered online, and had to return two pairs of shoes as they were too wide. Not only do I have to pay the shipping fees of $10.00 per items, but they also charge $30.00 per pair to simply take them and put them back on the shelf. Charging $30.00 "restocking" fee is utterly outrageous. read more

I am a new customer of Kunitz shoes and I bought 2 pairs of shoes on their website. Both pairs did not fit (too narrow) so I returned them to the west end store three days later. I spoke to the Manager as she helped me with my return. She told me "sorry I can not refund your money as it was a final sale" I was totally shocked as I did not remember seeing anything stating final sale anywhere even at the online cart checkout. So I said where does it say that on your website or on my receipt? She said "you have to read our return policy which is on our website home page, It says any item discounted 40% or more is a final sale and only a gift card will be issued should you make a return". I was astounded by the attitude I received by the Manager. Who searches the entire website reading store policies before purchasing from a web site? come on really?? She made me feel so stupid for not searching their entire website to look for what their return policy was before I made a purchase from their website. She said "All our customers know about our policy as it is written in the store" Well Stupid me I guess. Anytime I purchase something in the past I have been made well aware if an item is non returnable as it is clearly states almost always in Red bold letters "FINAL SALE" "no returns accepted" So I find this to be a very sneaky and shady business practice to bury a policy in your website and to not honor a full refund on items purchased. This has been a very bad first experience and will be my last purchase from Kunitz Shoes. I will sell this gift card on Kijiji. Buyer Beware! read more

Kunitz chooses particular brands known for their quality, comfort and style. They know their stuff and they care about their customers and their employees. You get what you pay for, and that is always a great pair of shoes that will make your feet happy. As an employee, we were treated very well by the owners, paid a living wage and provided access to great perks and benefits. That's why the service is so good! I did not enjoy my 1st experience. was meet at the door by 2 people asking if they could get me something as i just walked in and had seen nothing. So at first it was like looking for a car...the pushy sales. Then as i was walking around i was followed like i was going to steal something. Again to pushy.. After asking that Kunitz provide a resolution to the ruining of my boots I received an email from the owner which is copied verbatim below. My expensive Hanwag hiking boots are no longer repairable and are in fact WORSE after being left with Kunitz for a simple sole repair. Their response? "We won't charge you for the repair" Thanks for ruining my boots and leaving me with nothing. Not an apology, not an offer to remedy the situation, nothing. A direct quote from the Kunitz website "This first idea of service and selection is what has carried Kunitz Shoes' through the decades and why it remains an outstanding shop today" Apparently "service" means just that. Technically the shop ripped of the old sole and slapped another one on. (I'm guessing in the dark) In fairness they didn't say GOOD service. Am I the bad guy for assuming a family business would stand behind their reputation and do the right thing?!?! Here is the "please stop bothering us" email I received... Hi Aaron, thank you for your emails. Your boots are ready for pick up at no charge. We will not be further repairing them nor replacing them. Kunitz is my favourite shoe store, because I can always find good, supportive shoes here. I can get good black work shoes and such from Kunitz, and while the price might be a bit more than buying some cheap shoes from Payless the quality is much better, and the shoes last longer. Last time I was here I bought a pair of plain black dress shoes from KEEN. This is a brand I've worn before (well I have a pair of KEEN sandals) so I was hoping for the same luck with shoes. I tried the shoes on in the store with the help from a sales associate and thought I got the right size. When I got home and started wearing the shoes around my house (you always want to break the shoes in first) they started to feel tight. When my ankle started to go numb I figured I must have gotten myself a size too small (maybe my feet were on a diet that day). No problem, however, because I was able to go back to Kunitz and exchange the shoes for a pair that fit. Unfortunately, they did not have the same shoes in my size, but I found another pair of black shoes (runners this time) that did fit, and I liked. The sales associates here are friendly and always able to help out. Sometimes it can get quite busy at Kunitz, especially on the weekend, but I believe you can book an appointment for a shoe fitting if you need. The prices are high, but the quality is great, and the shoes will last for a long time (or for a good few years with proper care). read more

Best shoe store in the city! I'm not a 5 inch heel kinda girl, so if you are, this may not be the place for you. They do carry very trendy shoes here though, so don't be fooled. They always get new styles, and you can find some good sales at the end of season. Service is always, always, ALWAYS amazing!! The last time I was here, just a couple months ago, I was wanting Birkenstocks. I picked a few that I liked from the 30 or more options they had on display, and the guy helping me brought even more for me to try that weren't even out. I have shopped at Kunitz shoes for many years in Edmonton and spent a great deal of money there over the years. Sadly, the first time I tried to return faulty merchandise I was told it was "my fault and it was not covered by warranty and could not be repaired". This was the most expensive pair of slippers I had ever purchased and the first time I wore them the felt ripped. I was shocked that they would not stand behind their product or at least repair them. I really appreciate a store like this because I know the importance of comfortable shoes! I've worked in in the restaurant industry and it is crucial to take care of your feet! I was in the area today and saw this shoe store and decided to check it out. At first I thought it would be geared mostly towards women but it had a nice selection for guys too. Most of the shoes here go for comfort over looks but to be honest I thought some of them were pretty fashionable. Most of their shoes are made by the Merrell brand which I had never heard of but apparently they make some of the greatest performance shoes around. They had cool shoes that weren't clunky or unnecessary looking. They looked pretty awesome and were comfortable, I may have to go back. read more

The staff is knowledgeable and they only stock high quality products, so I didn't have to worry about bad advice or poor quality products. However, after I've been given shoes to try on, I don't expect to be left waiting for over fifteen minutes while two other customers - both of whom came in after I did - are visited three times and four times respectively. I was left staring at the wall until I finally did something I've only done two other times in my life: I walked out of a store because of the lack of service. I guess it worked out OK, because by then I knew what size and model of shoes I wanted, so I bought them online for much less than I would have paid at Kunitz. I was willing to pay more for the service, and to help support local business, but I have limits to my patience, as well. I'm not sure why Yelp is saying I'm from California... I love that I can check their stock online so I know if I should make the long trek from St Albert all the way down here (it actually takes just as long to get here as it does the downtown location, so I prefer to head south). I've always been aware of Kunitz. And with terribly fallen arches, I've always been aware that I SHOULD be shopping here for my shoes and not payless or walmart... but the price tags always scare me away. Well, after searching and searching for the style of boot I wanted in a wide calf, I finally had to cave and head to Kunitz. I put it off until I finally saw a facebook post with an ad for their winter sale.... what a deal! I found my dream boots - regular price $145, on sale for $116. They didn't have much left by the time I got there, but they had exactly what I needed. I was greeted with a smile when I walked in, and was assisted quickly. The salesman made sure to stay close by as I tried on my boots, but didn't hover, which was nice. And there's a 6 month manufacturer's warranty in case of any defects... how cool! I think it's finally time for me to bite the bullet and start buying good quality footwear. And I'll be doing it here! read more

In brief I don't go anywhere else in Edmonton for shoes. Kunitz shoes has friendly, knowledgeable staff and a wide selection of shoes. Even for men. I have very wide feet, and on my first visit I was immediately directed to a great pair of versatile shoes (fabulous with both jeans and a dress pants) that were simply the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Got orthotic insoles? Yeah, so do I. Not a problem. I went back soon looking for a more stylish pair for a summer in Italy, and again I had what I wanted in minutes. In both cases the exact style I wanted wasn't available in the width I needed, but a different colour was. Special orders here are so simple, and so fast - that is, if it isn't in stock at the other location which it frequently will be. I really love how they have a sign in register for customers: just put your name down, wander around, and the next available staff will be with you as soon as possible. Considering how busy this place can it is a lifesaver. Kunitz only stocks top-end product lines, so be prepared for a bit of sticker shock if you are used to shopping at Payless. However the styles they sell are not available cheaper elsewhere, you are paying for the quality, not markup. read more

Shoes for everyday, formal wear, or your next backpacking adventure -- you name it, they probably have it, and in a version that is less likely to give you blisters "to boot!" Get it? Ok, that was a bit cheesy ... But seriously, I was impressed with the selection. You may think that comfort shoes are boring and ugly, but Kunitz carries shoes that are both attractive AND comfortable. This may mean that women (myself included) can no longer hide behind the old excuse that pretty shoes weren't meant for comfort! They have quite the collection of ladies' boots right now, on sale from the previous season. Definitely worth a stop if you are looking for a new pair of quality leather boots. I love shoes, unfortunately, my feet require certain arch support so I always tend to stay with one brand, and wear them out to nothing... I always buy my shoes here because I'll know they have stock, and if they don't, they can bring it in for me. Although I'm not there a whole lot, they always treat me like a regular. And because I am always on the hunt for a pair of different shoes that provide the arch support I need, I'm alway asking to look at more. The salespeople are always patient and willing to let me try on a variety of shoes. I'm a pain in the butt, I try on several shoes, and then buy the same brand I always do... They never show any impatience with me and offer suggestions on other brands that offer the rigid support I need. They can get really busy, and to manage those days, they'll actually set up a sign in sheet to ensure that people get service in order. I never mind the wait since I'm looking at shoes! If you need quality shoes with equally quality service, check these folks out. I'm not much of a shopper, so when I sat down to have my feet measured I thought I was in for a long stay here, glad to report I was wrong. After telling the staff what I wanted, they disappeared into the back for a few minutes and returned with exactly what I was looking for the first time, they fit perfect and were on sale! Furthermore, she didn't hurry me at all. She was extremely patient and came back several times to check if I was still doing okay, or how the shoes felt. Just picked up my shoes from the Saddleback Road store and I was not pleased. Lets go back to the beginning. I gave them a $200.00 pair of shoes to be resoled. They told me it would cost between $80.00 - $100.00 to get done. I was called the next day to say it would cost $125.00. I reluctantly agreed. When it came time to pick up my shoes, I wasnt called to say they were ready. Instead I had to call them. When I came to pick them up, the left shoe was fine, but the stitching on the right shoe was incredibly messy. I asked if anything could be done about it and the owner shocked me when he said that the workmanship was great. Anyway, they agreed to fix them. No apology was given but instead it felt as though I was being a pain in their neck. The second and final time I went in, I picked them up and again the right shoe was still messy. I did mention it but the young man behind the counter said nothing. I just gave up and sucked it up. The final bill was $135.00. I could and should have just purchased a new pair. Was shopping for adult dress shoes and shoes for two young kids. Turns out they didn't have a large selection of dress shoes. Found one shoe for the youngest kid. For the older, they told me to come back in the fall when the new selection comes in. Staff were friendly. To get serviced, you have to write your name on the whiteboard next to the cashier and a staff will call you up when free. Price, brand and quality wise, the kids shoes cost about the same as MEC. The staff said that they can do shoe lace replacement for free for some of the kids sandals. Would definitely come back in the fall to buy shoes here. read more

The staff at Kunitz shoes are extremely helpful (no sales pressure) and the selection of "comfort" shoes is extensive. Not many stores specialize in comfort shoes (hardly any), even though many of us require them for our daily lives. The shoes are expensive but that is because they are built to protect your feet and last a really long time. My shoes have been all over the world, they have been soaked in water, thrown around in luggage, and have walked countless trails yet they look at feel like new! I was at the downtown location and the salespeople there are just SNOOTY and RUDE. They treated me like dirt there. I had to do a return. I was within the 7 day exchange/return policy and they just gave me a hard time. the girl working the till was muttering under her breath, so I asked what she was saying. She got REALLY defensive all of a sudden, so I knew she was bitching about me. When I confronted her about it, she and the rest of the "team" started YELLING at me. I expected them to at least be civil, but they were really pissed off about having to do the return. I expected them to say, sorry these didn't work out, can I show you "x" which is new/better/different, make another sale, and keep the customer happy rather than cause the customer to go online to rant about the bad service she got. I'll admit I'm not a regular customer so much that they'd recognize me, but I have bought at least 10 pairs of shoes from them in the past 3 years that I've been living downtown. I expected better service from them, but who knows, maybe they've got so many customers they don't feel the need to keep the ones that only buy a few pairs a year.
