He is a great person to wake up to. Middays with Jamie is fantastic. She does #SmallBusinessSpotlight on Wesnesdays at noon. She brings in local small businesses. And she doesn't limit herself to businesses with brick and morter stores... she also includes smaller online busnesses that people run from their homes! The first is that the manager/owner, JD Hoss, permanently remove himself as a DJ. He loves to hear himself talk and thinks everyone else loves his endless rambling. He goes on and on and on about every topic to the point that I simply switch to another station. He needs to simply STFU and play music. The second issue is the stations website. If your business is in the communications industry you would think that it would be kept up to date and the links work. I don't visit a site to look at pictures of the DJ's or pictures sent in by listeners. At a minimum the Listen Live and On Demand needs to be available.

I actually look forward to tuning in whenever I'm within range coming from The City...and I find myself streaming them over the internet when I'm sitting at my work desk, wishing I was in Donner. I support this station and their sponsors because small towns need real local radio stations, and this one does it very well. They've got a cool logo too... it'd be cool to have Donner Lake rather than Tahoe on it, but, I can understand the choice of the more internationally recognizable lake. I find myself having to bust out my Shazaam app at least once a day with the mix of music on here, and I like their support of local bands.

I enjoy its local restaurant and entertainment reviews; local man on the street interviews; local biting commentary, local thorough investigative reporting instead of Russian push-bots' internet propaganda, as well as Reno News & Review's local calendar feature, comic strip and local advertisements. Yes, advertisements. Any business that will advertise here is usually a business that I'll want to support. I see Reno News & Review as a good source of relaxation. Then, I come from a family of voracious and obsessive print readers. The print version of a newspaper is more successful at capturing and keeping my attention for longer periods. Academic studies have shown greater retention and comprehension from print than electronic reading. I like the scent of a newspaper, I like the rustling sound of a newspaper, and I like the tactile experience of holding it. On my couch, green ice tea with fresh lemon for sipping, Reno News & Review in hand, I read not bombarded from a page that isn't glowing at me with bright ads blinking like Times Square. Reno News & Review is easier to navigate than the internet. On my laptop I am beckoned incessantly to click on one link or another or still another, boxes of irrelevant video appear and disappear, audio screeches out unbidden, ads scurry across the screen obstructing the paragraphs I'm trying to read. There there's those internet comments. I'm not terribly interested in what people I don't know or respect post in their internet comments. Internet algorithms push me toward internet stories and ads that they reckon must be of related interest to me, as though my having seen an internet story about some celebrity's broken finger I will now be desperately eager for a post of the latest developments in that celebrity life --I'm not. The computer generates heat, which on a hot day is just not cool. The newspaper could never be so noisy or presumptuous or raising the temperature in the room. The newspaper page holds still. The newspaper is not the echo chamber of my own interests that is amplified by my internet searches and visits. All that is 3 stars. Print is another star and free is another star totaling a High-5 star rating. Then I feel concerned about trees being chopped down to produce print and vehicle pollutants and them clogging up the motorways to distribute the print. Then I remember the tremendous cost to store all the digital stuff which all have their own staggering ecological impacts as they draw power from "dirty" electricity grids. A single data center can consume the equivalent electricity of 50,000 homes. There are some 10,000 data centers globally. Data centers now have a greater carbon footprint than the airline industry, which itself is huge huge huge. Collectively, data centers are among the top-ten water-consuming industrial or commercial industries in the US. A lot of that water is potable - that is drinking - water coming straight from the utility. There's no substitute for print for me and it turns out that many people agree. This radio station was always hit or miss, but lately, they've just quit trying. Constant reruns…read moreof shows. And since it's talk radio where they discuss current topics, that's rather stupid. The segues to commercials are awful. It's as if the producer is taking a nap in the other room. They often play the transitional music loop for ten full minutes, then snap back into the already-back-on program. The website also has ONE show listed on the weekends. A gardening show that lasts from 9 AM to 10 PM. That isn't a typo. 13 hours of gardening. That's an especially big F-U to me since I can't keep a plant alive to save my life, and the show just makes it sound easy... I seriously wish Reno had better news/talk radio offerings. I put it on as background noise when I am working on my condo (so I'm not really paying attention most of the time), but the fact that I already know the punchline to a joke (having heard it for the fifth time now) is just terrible. This station is caught in a downward spiral, and unless they get new content soon, I can't see them sticking around too much longer. I would listen to AM 780 KKOH, but that's way too far-right-leaning for my taste.

It looks like you're losing listeners with somewhat blase programming. If you want to pick up your…read moreratings, you need to get more listeners. If you want to get more listeners, attract them with contests and prizes, especially during the Christmas season. Then, get a new program director, or at least better programming. It takes a long time to build a good reputation, but it can be lost almost overnight. When your ratings go down, so does the value of the station.
