I met Kurty over 20 years ago when he did my glamour shots (remember those?!!!) that everyone and their mother was getting at the time. He did a fantastic shoot of me in black and white (which I still have to this day) and is a true professional and good at his job. He made me look presentable and that's saying a lot! Kurty is very kind and patient; I'm not comfortable in front of the camera but he puts me at ease and makes suggestions for poses and angles. I asked for a makeup artist he suggested this fantastic makeup artist who made me look like a better version of me instead of an unrecognizable version with caked on makeup. His studio is a good size and he has fun music to relax to, so the mood is upbeat and happy and it will show in your pictures. He chooses the best background and lighting for you. After taking the photos he sent them to me within an hour and I was able to pick what I liked right away. I found out about Kurty through my employer, who'd recommended we all get professional headshots done. I'd initially reached out to him, but didn't actually schedule an appointment until about 8 months later. Every communication with Kurty was professional and he was always highly responsive. Eventually, I scheduled for my husband and my headshot two weeks later and he was very flexible and again, responsive. We drove to the city on a Saturday morning. I let him know we would be there between 10-11 am. We arrived at 10:40 am and went to the address. You will notice it says use street entrance, so what you want to do is walk towards the left (towards the coffee shop) and you'll see an entrance for Kurty Photography. We rang the bell and was greeted by Kurty. Inside, it's nice and clean. To the left is where you take your pictures (if you choose to do the inside option). Towards the right is a small bench and towards the back is a bathroom where you can freshen up. I had my husband go first, since I wanted to freshen up. We asked if we could play some music and he was okay with that. Kurty was great! My husband says he was entertaining and I found myself laughing as he tried to get my husband to smile bigger. The whole photo session with my husband took about 10 minutes. He took several shots...maybe about 30 shots. It was my turn and he took just as much time. I don't like taking pictures and am not very photogenic, but he took enough for me to pick a few I liked. We sat down with Kurty for another 30 minutes or so, narrowing out selection down to the one photo we liked. He would help us in the selection- I like that a lot! He told my husband- that's a manager pose. Oh, and that's like a CFO pose:) He's great! Overall, it was a great experience and I would most certainly use and recommend him. Kurty is simply awesome! My wife has seen him at many weddings of our friends and her brother. you couldn't find a friendlier guy, and if you end up with one of his associates, they are great too. We had one of his photographers who isn't with him anymore because he set out on his own. but he was great and captured our day perfectly. for our wedding we had few basic must have's: since my wife and i are chinese, we did not want to feel any pressure on guests taking pictures. i mean my wife has a ton of relatives, and they are all going to have a camera or 2. we've seen some professionals that can't take it that all your relatives are snapping shots. we find this simply lame and unacceptable. (i mean really, can you imagine seeing the photographer yell at your 80 year old grandpa to stop taking pictures of your poses with a little $12 pocket instamatic.) Kurty and his team have no problems with this at all. everybody was treated with respect and made to feel comfortable. this professional, and easy going nature contributes to achieving great pictures. also it came in particularly helpful that our photographer was multi lingual. the fluent use of english, catonese, mandarin, and toisan made the herding of some 100 family members look very well orchestrated. so all the family shots were completed easily, and in great time. we received so many great proof shots that we were simply overwhelmed. We shot with film, as this was back in 2003 when digi pics didn't have nearly the quality they do today. i think he promised us a certain number of proofs around 300 or so. and we received around 800. not only did he over deliver, but he also took a lot of time to help us make choices and lay out our wedding album. from what i hear, this type of service is not common place. without going too long and drawn out, if Kurty's got the style that you are looking for you will not be disappointed in the least. he is top shelf. read more

I was really unsure of where to go for great headshots for the best price and found Kurty on yelp! He has a really nice studio just off 280 with ample FREE parking which was great! Kurty was so friendly and welcoming it made the experience of getting my headshots done for the first time very relaxed and fun. I had to have new head shots taken for work and I could not be more impressed with Kurty. The rest of my company raved about him and they were right he's top notch. When we first saw a sample of Kurty's work, we were impressed with his style and artistic eye. We contacted Kurty for an appointment at his studio. Kurty is a really nice guy - we felt at ease as he explained his approach to wedding photography, his prices, etc, to us. At this studio, we viewed more samples of his work - all great. We never hesitated and booked Kurty for our engagement and wedding photos. As our wedding approached, we were able to contact Kurty by email very easily. That's a good thing because sometimes, we'll think of questions at night and it's easy to just send an email. We had a lot of interactions with Kurty via email such as viewing different layouts of our album, etc. Just made things easier for us. Kurty offered his advice to us for engagement photo locales. We chose the Legion of Honor and our photos turned out great. We got about an hour with Kurty and he had us in different poses: dancing, staring at the sky, peeking out behind the L of H columns - things we wouldn't think of. At our wedding, we had two photographers: Kurty and his assistant photographer. Both were easy to work with on our wedding day. We had a variety of different shots - posed and candid. I think we ended up with 900+ photos and the hard part was picking the ones we wanted for our album. The album - we loved it - we chose a "coffee book" style album and told Kurty which photos we wanted to include. And, voila, Kurty arranged the layouts creatively, in different sizes and color / black & white, and we had our album. Everyone we've shown it to says it's one of the best albums s/he has seen. The package we chose included a CD with all of our proofs (and not just the ones we chose for our album) on it. Some of the photos I've posted of Bloomster's and Cake Expressions were taken by Kurty Photography. We really enjoyed working with him - we are planning to have Kurty photograph our family on location shoots when our daughter is a little older. Photos are really priceless! Kurty covered our wedding in 2003 and we were very pleased with the quality and creativeness of his work. He shot in medium format and 35mm B/W. We were also impressed that he communicated well with everyone involved so our big day was captured forever with relative ease and lack of "drama". My wife's sisters were so impressed that they hired him for their weddings in 2004 and 2005! I'm fairly certain he shoots everything in digital format now, but I mention film because I personally believe it's an important discipline to possess, even for today's photographers. I'm an amateur photographer, and I shot film for decades before I adopted digital myself. I don't speak Cantonese, but some of my in-laws and sister in-law's families do. Kurty photographed out Wedding on September 7th, 2013, and we were incredibly pleased with the results. Kurty was easy to deal with, and easy to keep in touch with up to and after the wedding. He was on time, and professional, and had a great energy about him. Easy to schedule an appointment and price range is very reasonable considering the great quality of photos. His studio is super cute- one of those live-where-you-work lofts in dogpatch. He does the retouching with you so you can glam up your pics as much or as little as you'd like and he also gives good suggestions without being too pushy. I had the chance recently to work with Kurty on my wedding in Feb, 2017. Kurty was always quick to reply to my questions over email and made time over the weekend to meet with us to discuss what we want for the wedding photos. Kurty did my wedding almost 5 years ago. We had a short engagement so we had to move fast. He was available to meet with us on a very short notice and he was very accessible. During our engagement photo session, he posed us a couple of times, but the best pictures were from the actions shots. He was really able to capture the silliness and goofiness of the lovebirds. For the wedding, he snapped amazing pictures and everybody commented on how easy he was to work with and how unobtrusive he was. I had a really hard time choosing the pictures for the album because of all the great and amazing photos. I ended up getting extra pages put in. The album is so amazing and professional.
