I stayed with Bruno and Gill for B&B and one of my fondest memories is having a bottle of vino and a gas with Gill in the kitchen. Honestly Batcombe is just a fantastic place with some amazing friendly, interesting people. Bruno had just put in toilets when we got married here which was fantastic and the barn had not been used all winter so we had a lot of cleaning up to do. Its no frills but it makes it for economic sense as a wedding venue if you have the vision and want to get married in a glorious location. The main barn itself is gorgeously rustic, just put some dichroic floods as a backdrop and it becomes wonderfully atmospheric. We had a friend climb around like a monkey and do an amazing job on lighting and hung long swathes of black fabric over the not so pretty metal door entrance to the barn. In the smaller barn annex we also hung fabric to disguise the galvanised roof. We were able to have a fire going outside and allowed to have fireworks (before 10pm of course) and a flamethrowing fire engine. The villagers were just fantastic and welcoming and Bruno was an absolute star! Not only was he a bell-ringer, but he ran the bar at the village hall and made sure we had enough fuel to run the genny for the weekend. Barn does get cold at night so its worth renting a couple of space heaters. We got a TENS from Mendip council and ran our own bar which was fab. This is a beautiful quiet village so its not the spot to pound music late into the night as noise does carry but its a perfect venue for an event such as a wedding in the summer.

The breakfast was hot, high quality and delicious. The tea was a really nice tasty blend, really enjoyed it here. I will be back for more

His kit was all up to date, PAT tested (important when you hire a venue) with excellent sound quality and lots of lights. He turned up bang on time and was ready to rock and roll as agreed. Two bars, they don't serve much variety and generally £3.50 a pint, not bad for the venue. My biggest complaint is too many tall people go and the atmosphere isn't usually very vibrant...I go to Portsmouth Guildhall and the people seem much more interested in the bands (and I can see over the top of them), its as though people in Southampton go to the wrong gigs?

After doing some research, I discovered this hotel. Selecting a room was easy and straightforward online. When I arrived on the day of check-in, I was two hours earlier than expected. I was still able to check in and get to my room and relax for the rest of the day. Later on that day, I went to their restaurant and ate some of the dinner. I dealt with two waiters while I waited for my food and both of them were very lovely. While I was in the restaurant I ate the chicken burger sandwich, which was very tasty. The gravy sauce on it gave it a nice flavor. For dessert, I decided to try the chocolate fondant which did not disappoint. As for my room, the bed was very comfortable. The room was very clean, but you do occasionally hear noises from either side of your room and in the hall. Another thing that was kind of annoying was the AC in the room. I am an American so I'm used to having AC at all times. The hotel here have AC, but they don't work that well in my opinion. Mine randomly decided to shut off in the middle of the night and I woke up kind of hot. I had to turn it back on and then it was fine, but that was one downside . Thankfully, that has not really bothered me and I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. If I ever take another cruise out of Southampton, I will more than likely book here again for convenience and familiarity.

I then had the lamb shank as a main and it was also fantastic, fall off the bone tender, lots of flavor and the right amount of spice.
