The captains admitted they were unaware of the shift, which significantly impacted our experience. While I understand that fishing is unpredictable, we caught nothing in an 8 hour day, fishing in the wrong location for half the day did not help. For $1400 the captains should have a better understanding of where the fish are, especially since their website advertises their expertise in finding the best spots.

Captain Sean took us out with assistance from his deckhand Clayto and they were extremely friendly and very informative as they told us exactly what to do if we hooked a fish. Sure enough, about 2.5 hours in, we hooked a tuna and although we reeled it in, we would have never been close to doing it ourselves without their instructions and help. Their positivity was so refreshing and they even cut some of it up for us to take home. I have done fishing charters before but from here on out, I am only booking Fire Hatt. Strongly recommend.

We enjoyed our trip tremendously and Cpt. Craig was very informative about local history if inclined to ask. All equipment and bait was provided, and included in the overall cost. Although there are no guarantees you would catch fish, when fishing, we were fortunate enough to do so. We each landed a yellow fin tuna. We had never used the gear necessary to hook up and land these delectable fish, but Cpt. Craig was patient and informative on how to do so. At the tail end of our trip he filleted our catch and bagged it up for us. We were provided beverages and snacks, if interested. There was great communication before and up to our charter. I/we highly recommend this charter! Should we ever return to the Big Island we will do this charter again, no doubt. I may, if the others were inclined, charter it for the whole day. Thank you, Cpt. Craig, for an outstanding adventure. For me, personally, it was the funnest part of our week stay on the island. Here are a couple of tips. (1) Keep in mind - there is not a restroom on this boat. So, you should plan to flush the pipes before launching unless you want to waste valuable time returning to the launch ramp. (2) You can get some of your catch through the TSA and Ag checkpoints at the airport if desired. We froze some of our fillets and had them in zip bags, placed within our carry-on luggage.

We laughed when my husband and I caught tuna but by the time we reeled them in the dolphins surrounding us got to the fish before we did. We relocated and ended our day each catching Wahoo. I was able to catch some sun lounging in front of his boat. We made a friend and the next time we visit we will definitely be on Craig's boat again. Highly recommend. Rob is beyond knowledgeable and intensely passionate about what he does. I have gone out with Rob twice now over my visits to Big Island. First adventure was blue water hunting and second for a free diving class. Never in my life would I think I would go blue water spearfishing. I LOVED it and I would do it again and ONLY because of Rob. It was such an amazing, unique "buck list adventure" that you must try. I would never just sign up for this even though I love the water, but with Rob, you feel 200% safe--he is patient, extremely experienced and has a wealth of knowledge of Big Island waters and of spearfishing. Whether you shoot some large fish or just see some really cool stuff that nobody ever does in these conditions, the experience is OUTSTANDING!! I returned to Big Island specifically to go back out with Rob. This time I took a free diving class to further my skills after being inspired by the blue water trip. It was REMARKABLE. If I lived on the island I would do weekly classes with Rob. I doubled my breath hold time, learned a ton about free diving, expanded my safety protocol and learned about fish behavior. I authentically left 200% more confident and knowledgeable than when I walked in and as an added bonus, we swam with a school of dolphins which happened to grace us with their presence during the class....very cool. I will return again and am counting my days until I can go back out with Rob. Tony has been a captain for 30 years and is a diesel mechanic (lends comfort in knowing if something were to happen he would be able to figure it out...not that it would). We were on the Ihu Nui and the boat was in great shape. Tony even gave us some marlin poke and ceviche from a catch the day before (normally they release bill fish unless the customer insists...the fish we ate was DOA so the crew and customer didn't let it go to waste). Catching the marlin is something I'll never forget - Tony handled the boat well and Matt was right there to make sure we landed it. You can tell Tony was enjoying it just as much as we were!

We drove down and spent the day in Captain Cook waiting for our 6:30 chartered boat. We arrived early as asked. We waited 2 hours. We watched boat after boat after boat from all the other companies pick up their passengers and leave. Our boat never arrived. We called. We emailed. Phone went straight to a generic voicemail that didnt even name the business. We have heard nothing. We finally left with heads hung low. Entire day wasted...defeated. BTW, our credit card was charged! I truly hope nothing terrible happened to the crew. And would love to know what possible reason could explain the disappointment caused.
