Wow! I grew up on the big island, Kona specifically so I love coming home every year. Having a big group of brilliant women friends visit for a week we knew we had to do a cruise with hopefully glimpsing some whales as well. Not only was our crew of Captain Tanner, Doug and Keawe phenomenal from the minute we showed up and stepped on the boat until we stepped off almost three hours later at the Kona of pier!!!! It was an extraordinary combination of being out on the water with expert Watermen, seeing a ridiculous amount of whales doing what they do in a pristine respectful, natural environment, also combined with some beautiful big island and Hawaiian cultural history. As a Kona Girl now 55-year-old woman I plan on sharing this phenomenal experience every time I'm home and with any guests and Ohana joining me!! HUGE Mahalos to the entire crew and Kona style for everything that you're doing both on that day and on to provide this extra extraordinary time in our living, breathing vibrant ocean. And all your efforts to keep it that way. With much aloha, Pollyanna

From start to finish, the crew at Hang Loose took great care of us: friendly check-in, clear directions getting on the boat, and guided tour or beautiful music the whole ride. Once at Captain Cook's Cove, the crew helped us get setup with our gear and snorkeling tips. They provided small floaty noodles to folks so they felt comfortable staying afloat. I did not use this, but almost everyone else did, so don't worry about wanting one in advance: you'll be in good company. Once in the water, that's when the magic happened. Everywhere we looked was stunning and full of life. We saw all the tropical fish imaginable and coral. Sea urchins were everywhere as well, so don't step down...stay afloat! Some highlights included an eel, a green crown of thorns of starfish, and a giant needlefish. We had such a blast and had at least 2 hours to snorkel, if not more. Some folks headed back early to the boat and they setup a slide on the top deck for folks to use to slide into the ocean. Once back on the boat, they set us up with refreshing sandwiches, fruit, chips, and drinks. After so much swimming, this was a much needed nourishment break. The boat tour back we have a few more scenic stops for photo shoots. It was stunning and we learned a lot about lava tubes, the coastal scenery, and some island history. The four hours flew by. Once back, the crew let us know where to go near the dock to find sea turtles. Such a great tip! They were correct and we saw three! This tour was well worth the money. We'd recommend it for all visitors as it truly was a magical experience!

They had breakfast and lunch for us as well as a bar and restrooms. We were there around Thanksgiving, so there can be whales. Unfortunately, we didn't see any Wells but we did see some cool dolphins and a lot of flying fish. Our team was awesome. And we had a great day. I was a little concerned about getting up so early and into the water, but it was warm. And the time went by fast. I really feel like if we would've went on a shorter one it would've been too short.

The people who checked us in were friendly and efficient, and so was the crew on the boat. The food and drinks on board weren't bad at all - actually, everything was quite tasty. I admit stabbing a piece of chicken isn;t easy if the boat hits a swell while you're doing it, and the same goes for getting that bite safely in your mouth. But, you rapidly get used to it and it ceases to be a problem. The cruise itself, i.e. the motion of the boat was a lot smoother than some people told us it would be, the views were spectacular, and as mentioned everyone from Body Glove's staff treated us great. This was one Big Island tour opportunity that was well worth the money, and we highly recommend it.

This is right on the cruise terminal port and quite easy to walk to. The check in area is in a hotel called Courtyard King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel. I would recommend to check in early as 15 minutes before your tour departs, they guide you to the water shuttle. Once you get on the water shuttle, it takes you to the submarine. You need to be able to climb a ladder to get into the submarine. The space is a little on the tight side and there are no backs to the seats so work on your abs before the trip! The air inside was cool and constantly recirculating so it did not feel stuffy. Everyone gets their own porthole to look into the ocean and there are fish identification cards in front of you. The submarine can get to 100 ft pretty quickly and I was surprised that my ears did not get plugged up. We saw lots of fish that day. Some get really close to the submarine. We even saw a school of fish! My only disappointment is color. At those depths, everything has a blue tinge so sometimes it was hard to identify the fish. The operators and tour guides were so nice and informative. This was one of the best tours I've had on this trip. Thanks again for a great excursion!

We went down over 100 feet, and we saw so many different types of fish as well as two shipwrecks! Our guide, Eden, was full of helpful information about the sea life and local culture and history, and she was unendingly patient with one of my kids who had a million questions for her. She didn't mention tips, but at the end, she got a lot of cash from all of us because she absolutely crushed the tour. My only nits were 1) finding the meeting place was not obvious because it's inside the neighboring hotel-- not sure if we missed those instructions somewhere. And 2) we donked our heads twice when looking out the viewports when we were looking at some fish-- not because the submarine was moving too fast, we just got excited looking at fish hah. Anyway, some padding would have gone far. Anyway, I know it seems touristy, but this one is actually worth it-- so much that we've done it twice over a couple decades!

From check-in to the boat crew all personnel were kind, caring, and very knowledgeable and informative about equipment fittings and marine life. I would love to give a shout out to the June 22, 2026 7:00 tour boat crew (Jack, Brayden, the captain, ship mate, and other diver. Sorry couldn't remember all crew members names). They all did a wonderful job of explaining exactly what was to be expected while snorkeling, and how to stay calm while the manta rays get up close and personal. Jack and Brayden did an excellent job of explaining the life of manta rays and how to identify each one while we were in the water. A big thank you to Brayden for be encouraging and keeping me calm while in the water. He knew I was a good swimmer, but am very nervous in deep water. Brayden was very good at informing us when a ray was getting close and to just stay still and calm if one were to get too close to our bodies. He did a wonderful job with keeping us safe, informed with marine life, and gave clear directions as to what we needed to do to get in the water, while we were in the water, and with how to get out of the water back onto the boat. Mahalo (Thank you) Dolphin Discoveries Crew for a wonderful night snorkel with the manta rays! I would highly recommend this excursion to anyone that is visiting the island of Hawaii!! The first googles they gave me snapped at the strap when I tried to put it on. The second one had a valve in front of my mouth that seemed to be faulty and let in water with every breath. I wish I just had the old school ones that are just a tube. Went in January and the short sleeve wet suit top was not early enough to keep you warm. Lots of guests were shivering the whole time. The day we went the water was choppy and we got sea sick while in the water. Also getting jostled around by the waves against your closely packed neighbors was def not serene or magical or "experiencing nature" or anything. Not so fun, when combined with tasting sea water with every breath and being cold. Also they don't tell you before you pay but they give you a pool noodle to help you swim to the floating light and to keep your lower body afloat. If you want a life vest it's $10. So in summary, I think it can be nice if the conditions are right and their equipment works. People told me this is an amazing experience but let's be real and beware these factors that can make it not so enjoyable.
