As the name suggests, there's a fairly strong African theme to the merchandise, with many sculptures of animals and people. It's very cool stuff, but I wouldn't know where to put any of it in my home. Zambezi is located in the former location of Gus & Ruby, and hopefully this location will bring as much good luck to this store as it did to its previous tenants. A wonderful little museum in Kittery. The volunteers are so kind and informative. Everything from…read moretown hero's, civil war, World War II, Native American and local maritime history. There are so many nice displays and artifacts. They even have a telescope from the mid 1700's I really enjoyed my visit. Especially the first order Fresnel lens! If you're ever in kittery you should definitely stop by and check it out! It's worth it!

The museum is broken up into different sections. They do give you a map but it's a little confusing to follow along, so I suggest just walking through and just reading what's there. Some markings around the museum to correspond with the map would be helpful. There are about 5 rooms so it doesn't take too long to walk through, depends on what kind of museum goer you are. They are currently only open Wednesday and Saturday from 10-2pm. There is an admission fee ($7 adults, $3 children, $15 family) but they offer discounts for AAA members, seniors, military and Kittery residents!

The historical value is in the rehab and Portsmouth artifacts contained in the house. The exhibition on the Portsmouth Peace Treaty is really good, they should actually highlight that more than the JPJ side of it. The Museum shop is very small and not much to look at. Overall it is ok but I would rather spend my time on another stop.

After having toured John Paul Jones' tomb at the Naval Academy in Annapolis and getting a great history lesson there from our tour guide, we were anxious to stop at this house during our recent visit to Portsmouth. Conveniently, it was right around the corner from our hotel! The house is run by the Portsmouth Historical Society who have done a great job re-establishing the home to its current state after what we learned were years of neglect. With volunteer help and amazing contributions of historical furniture and other items from committed supporters, the home really does bring you into the age of John Paul Jones. I didn't mind the $5 senior citizen admission charge knowing that it was going to support the upkeep and maintenance of such a historic place. The representative from the Historical Society provided an excellent narrative of the significance of the home and all that is contained therein. Very informative. Then we were free to wonder at our leisure. What was a surprise, however, was that this was really NOT John Paul Jones' house. Yes, he rented a room here on two occasions during the construction of war ships. I was under the mistaken impression that he owned this house. Turns out that he was just a boarder here. Nonetheless, you'll get a good overview of his life and the significance of the man known as the Father of the U.S. Navy.

Fairly normal souvenir shop. However the service is atrocious. We walked in and the employees…read moreignored us the entire time gossiping loudly. When we did get an employee's attention to request a size the employee made an attempt to search the back inventory. Only to be stopped by another employee saying that what they have out is all they had. And adamantly and rudely refusing to check further inventory. They then proceeded to continue to loudly gossip and laugh amongst themselves. Anytime we needed help they acted as though it was a terrible and annoying inconvenience. Unfortunately all the other nearby shops were closed and my husband really wanted a Kennebunk tshirt or we would have happily taken our business elsewhere.

Hey...this is a cool store!…read more First and foremost, there is history here...it was once the Lyric movie theatre. It is located on the waterfront of Dock Square and you can't miss it because the building is red! It is such a beautiful building and serves as the backdrop to a lot of pictures. They have a little bit of everything and I suppose it's a typical souvenir shop...but they do have some unique things here. I really enjoyed looking around and even got quite a few laughs. Just look in the windows and you'll want to go in! They seem to be decently priced as well. The staff is extremely friendly and they even have an online shop. Of course, shopping online is nothing like shopping in the store, but you can find some of their more popular items online.
