This collection of art galleries has decreased by one location since our last visit, but still worthy of an extended visit. We once again started off at the lobby of the Grand Hotel which featured several paintings by Nataya DeSena. We then went up the hill to Shows where enjoyed the work of David Whitlock. The Gallery offers the works of many artists and currently offers an exhibition of those by William B. Hoyt and, as always, the wind sculptures by Lyman Whitaker. read more

We stopped with the sole purpose of buying a wind sculpture we had already decided upon. We worked with Nate and ended up purchasing a different sculpture, which needed to be ordered and shipped. Our sculpture arrived when promised and Nate kept us abreast of the progress. Although this may be our only purchase of this type, the gallery is gorgeous and has many of the sculptures to look and many in stock for purchase. They were delightful to work with. I visited the main gallery at the top of the hill which featured masterful works by three different female Maine-based artists. The curator/gallery attendant(?) was able to provide excellent helpful information about each. Also stopped down the hill to visit the pop-up gallery and to visit the artist in residence at the photography gallery. There was more to see than I could manage -- I just accidentally happened upon it when dropping in for directions at the visitors center while on my way north......But I will be back at my leisure next time I'm in Kennebunk. Great gallery with friendly, helpful staff. It is bright, airy with the art beautifully displayed. There is a range of art, something for everyone. We found that they represented a Maine sculptor we admired, James Rivington Pyne, as well as a wind sculptor from Utah, Lyman Whitaker. There are so many wind sculptures outside the gallery, you can't--and shouldn't--miss it. read more

What a lovely gallery. We were making the most of a highly advertised art walk on a rainy Friday night in Kennebunkport/Kennebunk. Some of the galleries we tried to visit were closed, I assume because of the poor weather and likely low turn out. Not Maine Art Gallery though! We were cold and wet and the gallery owner greeted us at the front door and quickly handed us some drinks, and welcomed us to look around the gallery. The gallery has two floors and many different artists. No one bothered us or "hovered" nearby, we were free to roam the entire gallery and just appreciate the different works. Prices are clearly marked so you don't have to ask about pieces to find out. There were works at many price levels, some in the several hundred dollar range up to over $10k. Most if not all were from Maine artists, with quite a lot of Maine subjects including landscapes and life scenes, with many different mediums. We couldn't see it very well but outside there was a nice collection of wind sculptures. We didn't collect anything that night, but if you are looking to collect in Kennebunkport or just to see some local art I wouldn't miss this stop. read more

This really is a beautiful gallery. Being a sculptor, I am always refreshed when I enter a gallery that is curated with an interesting and varied collection (not just 2-dimensional art!). I remember the first day I walked into the main gallery at Main Art Hill a year ago. (There are several unique galleries on the property- so make sure you visit them all! ) I was greeted so warmly by Natalie (Gallery Director & Manager) and introduced to John (Owner.) We had an interesting conversation about the history of the gallery. I told them that I was an artist preparing to take part in the new 'Pop Up' artist series that Main Art Hill holds every year. To make a long story short, my week long experience at Main Art Hill was really wonderful. I felt in good hands with Abby (Marketing & Event Coordinator) and all the employees were so friendly and welcoming to me, and every client that walked through the doors. Today, I am proud to be on the other side of the door, part of the Main Art Hill family of artists. * I feel it important to note that in these uncertain times, with Covid-19, Main Art Hill has taken many creative and thoughtful steps to safely deliver and showcase art to clients based on their individual needs. Gem of a Gallery in Picturesque Seaside Town of Kennebunk in Maine! We have been patrons of this wonderfully-diverse art gallery for years now and are proud owners of paintings, wind sculptures, and glass art from various artists that the gallery represents... I rated them 4 stars because I'm not versed enough in the total Maine art scene or pricing for Maine artists, to give an expert opinion. However, this gallery has a wonderful selection of the state's fine art artists in several genres. A knowledgeable staff and friendly atmosphere make shopping here a very pleasant experience. read more

Great service, great art! One of the best run galleries.

What a lovely gallery! You'll know you've found the place because the front yard of the gallery is covered in wind sculptures. You can't miss them, right on the main street. I'm in the middle of working with a landscape architect to fix up my horrible yard right now and I'm very tempted to include one of these cool sculptures! The inside of the gallery is part frame shop and part art gallery. The host many various artists from around the area, mostly oil paintings, but some other stuff too. Definitely worth a look around - whether you buy or not, you will surely find something that catches your eye! read more

John and his staff are amazing. They represent talented artists and set the bar for other galleries.

A must stop!!! We visit every year to take advantage of seeing works from mostly Maine artists. We did purchase a wind sculpture there for our new place. The staff and gallery owner are top notch and happy to educate you on the pieces you may like. They also have a small cottage out back where they have a display of a specific artist who just might be there as well while you visit. Ever time we go I find numerous pieces I would like to own. Maine Art is an amazing art gallery located in the Lower Village in Kennebunk, Maine. They represent top artists from Maine and New England and have great paintings, wonderful statues and the coolest wind sculptures. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful while remaining unobtrusive. This art gallery is a must see on a trip to the Kennebunks and even worth a destination trip. read more
