Rahul M. 12/7/2013 I had a good experience there today! I mean yeah it's messy but it's a collectors store run by people who enough playing video games not managing a store! It's not too bad for pricing! Honestly I picked up two games and a controller for $100 (mind you one game was 70 because it was a limited edition mint N64 cartridge). Beware if your driving from farther away. Pricing is always on the highest end of market value. Unrealistic, which makes me think they treat their games for sale like it's their personal prized collection. They are very firm on prices and your basically just another customer. If your trading in a bunch of items you might get better service otherwise don't bother. Many other retro video game stores with better service closer to Toronto. They really do have a great selection of games, just a shame they aren't willing to part with them unless you pay the highest market price. Even for lower condition items. read more

Only open 4 hrs a day, in the evenings. Sells used video games for more than new!! I went in and asked for a copy of Zelda Spirit Tracks for the Nintendo DS and was given a price of $59.99!!!!!!! Prices games by using Ebay and Amazon which have exuberant prices on video games. Would not suggest and will never go back. read more

I don't believe anyone that gives this store anything above a one star rating. The owner is not exactly what one would call honest. He is in the business of selling defective games to unsuspecting customers and then offering store credit and pointing at the video cameras if you don't like his policy. I'm an avid video game collector, and I gotta say that Vintage Games is just an awesome place to buy games. The manager's got a good personality and he's helpful in finding what you need. If there was 1 thing that's kind of an inconvenience, I would say that the place feels a bit crowded and you often have to step over things to get where you need to be, but otherwise it's a great place. Prices are fair, has tons of games, and a cool manager. Would recommend :D read more

The most expensive retro game store in the area, and the most expensive one I've ever been to. It boggles my mind how a store like this can stay in business. This place is just wall to wall junk. The store is a mess, it smells, it's dirty, every time I go in there (yes, I have tried many times to try and make the next experience better but it always fails) I feel like I leave needing a tetanus shot. Owner is one of the most self-centered, arrogant, condescending pricks I have ever met. Their Facebook page ( their website ) says "always buying, always selling, always treating", I have gone into the store a few times I found a few trinkets that I've wanted to purchase but the store owner did not allow me to purchase the items with cash. He insisted that I brought in items from my house to trade. I advised him I do not want to trade and that I would just like to make a traditional transaction with cash. Store owner then became unreasonably rude and to this day I've never spent a cent at this location. I recommend you stay far away because the owner is a prick. Inventory and options in the store were great. Pricing was ridiculous, unless you value ps2 games at an average of $15...I do not. Customer service was also sub par. The man who appeared to be the owner was helpful, while the woman working whom I believe was his girlfriend, was very rude and the least bit helpful. I remember visiting when first opened and I made a comment about how unprofessional it looked and the owner explained they just opened, but it's been years at this point. There is no excuse. When I first walked in there I thought "wow...this place is a disaster." Games just scattered and stacked on top of each other everywhere you look. I went in there looking for super Nintendo games, so I found myself just kind of "digging" through it all. I grabbed a stack off this counter and the owner came over telling me those are his "personal games" or something to that nature. Hard to tell as a customer as the place was a complete mess. Picture a hoarders house but with video game cartridges and old pizza boxes everywhere. So I hit his wall of super Nintendo games. there was definitely a nice selection, but nothing was priced....which is extremely annoying as you have to keep asking. So I figure I'll just get a bundle together and ask him how much at the end. Spent my time looking and find a nice collection of games, then go and talk to him. The owner was narcissistic and very annoying. He kept repeating himself over and over, "I don't want your money, I want your stuff." He blabbed on and on about how he'd rather me bring stuff in then pay in cash. Very annoying. So he looked at my games that I grabbed from his dumpster of a store and priced them right there for me. He wanted $120 plus tax for the 4 or 5 games. So I said let's do it for $100 flat cash. I thought this was fair considering he had triples or more of some of the games I chose. Without hesitation he said no, then rambled on about how he is a hoarder and "wants my stuff." One of his friends or other employees even turned to him and said "Don't be a dick" to him. So I just put the stack of games down and left. Didn't even want to purchase one of them. The annoying owner and the fact that nothing was priced is the reason I will never set foot in that mess of a store ever again. read more

That being said, the owner seems like he couldn't care less, he's rude and isn't very helpful. Not planning to go back. I am a snes cartridge collector. I asked the owner to show me the rarest carts for the system, with intent to buy. He told me the good carts were for trade only. If I wanted to bring in games to trade, he would show me the carts I wanted to see. I told him I'm not interested in trading, I prefer to collect. He told me too bad. I would've paid more in cash for the games I wanted, but I guess they must make more money on trades...somehow. Got a real "we're doing just fine, I don't need your business" vibe from the guy. Highly overpriced, extremely aggressive employees. They also spam Kijiji constantly with with ads with absolutely no relevant information. I would definitely stay away from this place. There are much better alternatives in the KW area, or if you know how to use to internet, you can find much better prices. read more

The selection of games is incredible, you'll probably find anything you ever wanted here. The problem is with the prices, which are way too high and not listed anywhere on the game. The store is also a mess, but at least they have other good stuff like magazines and trading cards. The staff is friendly which is a plus. read more

I had heard about the store on a Facebook page and decided to visit with my family while passing through Kitchener. Heading into the store my first impression was that it was very unorganized, games everywhere in piles and piles which for the most part I hadn't really cared about considering the massive amount of great games and consoles but I quickly noticed how barely anything was priced. Inquiring about the prices of certain items had me taken back and astonished by the the very high prices. Also, walking around the store I noticed how messy and cluttered it was, games on top of games, on top of desks with pizza boxes and other garbage littering the floor along with stacks of chairs blocking my view on games and it made it frustrating to see more of the store. I found it was difficult to actually look at the games or find out their prices and when I wanted help it was very hard to decipher who was working there and who was a customer. There were a complete lack name tags, in addition nothing recognizable to associate them with the store, but there were a few guys chatting up customers about games that appeared to be employees, super helpful!. As an active gamer I was completely disappointed, not by the selection of videogames in the slightest but by the environment, the employees, and the store in general. Gamers beware, be prepared for ebay prices, they have a few handy dandy laptops to makeup a price on anything you ask about, so be prepared to pay top notch unless you're getting a very cheap game. As a gamer I was astonished that other gamers, people saying they are in the gaming community would have a store like this and charge so much! If you are eager to see a large collection of awesome games, consoles, Nintendo magazines, guides, etc and like rolling in filth then you will love this store. For myself I will never be returning to this store and be advising any other gamers to avoid it like the plague. read more

This store was a complete waste of time... For an out of towner such as myself especially, but I feel for the entire KW area as well if this is all there is in terms of retro gaming/ used game stores. The staff was irritating, I was greeted and that was it... they were all just lounging around like there was nothing to do even though the entire store was in disarray. It looked like a tornado had gone through the place-- games and systems were everywhere, even scattered on the floor, so I had to watch where I was going... it was annoying and completely unprofessional. I can understand wanting to communicate a laid back environment in a gaming store, but this was ridiculous. There was no order to their stock... they had NES and SNES (etc) stuff all over the place, there was no designated section so it was frustrating trying to locate specific titles as the games were not grouped together, or in any specific order that I was able to distinguish. I may even be able to get past the mess if it weren't for their prices. Nearly everything they had was priced 2, 3 even 4 times what it was actually worth. When I asked about some of their prices, and about rarity etc. the employees came off as disrespectful.. talking down to me like I was an idiot, making me feel as though all they think of their customers as incompetent cash cows. By the time I left the store I had put back all the titles I had selected, having no desire to give my business to KW. I would not recommend this store, and I certainly won't be going back... Save your dollars and do the same, there are better retro stores out there that actually deserve the business. read more

I was very disappointed with this store. When I went in i thought maybe they were closed since there were boxes everywhere, stacks of games all over the floor. I had to step over things to get to where i wanted to look. Upon looking at the games, I was approached by the employee (presumably manager) and asked what i was looking for to which i responded, 'NES Games'. He insisted i tell him specifically which games i was after so i named off 3-4 i was interested in. He then proceeded to grab them off the shelf and hand them to me as if i was going to just buy them and leave. Which might have happened if the prices were not so outrageous. Expect to pay 3-4 times more what you would expect online and even from other stores in the area. That being said they do have LOTs of games in stock, which i would come to expect seeing as they charge so much. Overall i HIGHLY recommend you to avoid this place, there are far better options in Waterloo/Kitchener. I will wait until they have their going out of business sale in a couple months before i make any purchases here. read more
