But I drove to Beloit because the gas at Gene's was $4.80!!! It's $5.50 or more around Roscoe/Rockford, IL. The pumps are older, as is the whole facility, old-fashioned, genuinely quaint. You can't use your credit card in the pump. And they do prefer cash. Go to Gene's. Keep this small town, family business going. And enjoy filling your tank, even though the prices are still awful. They invited us to wait in line in order "to conduct the largest one-day sale of premium, highly allocated whiskies the Stateline has ever seen". They promised to release prices and quantities 24 hours before the event. To get clarification, I personally called the store, asking about the pricing ahead of time. The woman personally assured me that "they are very close to MSRP prices" and "we do not price gouge here". So, I canceled my Friday night plans, got together with multiple buddies to wait in line overnight. Some people had already been in line in the below-freezing temperatures for 18 hours when Everett's store released the true list: The full list is attached below. They listed certain bottles over 10x MSRP. A bottle with an MSRP of $49.99 was listed as $500. Each bottle was 3-10x the price that people who were waiting in line expected based on the conversation with the shop. While retailers have the right to charge whatever they would like, they certainly do not have the right to mislead their customers to wait in line for something that can be found cheaper somewhere else. This was misleading, falsely-advertised price gouging. Over 100 people have complained on their Facebook page, and the manager Matt has been nothing but rude leaving comments like this is somehow the fault of his customers. Me & my husband were out of town eating lunch when we realized our tire was flat & so was the…read morespare. We called Kevin @Sather's, he said I'll come to you as soon as I finish up with my current customer. He came to the restaurant, aired the tire up & said drive 2 miles to the station. We made it & once there, he repaired our tire & put it back on. All of that & was super friendly but the huge shocker, charged a very fair price. The tire was back in good condition, no problem getting home. I don't think he realized what a blessing he was to us today. I highly recommend this place, AMAZING service!
