It provided all the basic kitchen amenities needed (stovetop/microwave/kettle/mini-fridge) to allow you to sit back relax & never leave the grounds if you chose to. In addition the cabin had a TV (with built-in DVD, and a DVD library available to borrow from at the office), air-con (which would be certainly welcome during Summer) and ensuite. The location (our primary reason for booking) is great and only a 5-10minute walk from the Macedon V/Line train station (giving you easy access to other areas further down the line, such as next-stop Woodend, home to the Holgate Brewery. Well worth not driving so you can enjoy a few drinks!), and also the local small town with Cafe/Milk Bar/local pub. If ever out Macedon way I think it's a great budget option to stay at!

I was luck to find a vacancy as the Calder House is often fully booked months in advance. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and take you back in time to the glory days of the gold mining days. So often I would be given a "detour" with my card in Melbourne. This is outrageous behavior, but it sadly does occur all too frequently. Not so in Castlemaine, for there is more than an element of trust within the whole fabric of the fleet. Trust between the drivers and all the their passengers is definately the norm and to my way of thinking, it is carved in stone. I also like it how the drivers are always well-presented and above all friendly despite sometimes being under the pump with the demands people in the community needing such good Taxi service. Needing and getting it delivered from one destination to another safely. One can be definately guaranteed of true professional service with Caastlemaine Taxis.They are only a phone call away.

It is only a short walk around the corner from Main Street making it nice and convenient. The owner is friendly and welcoming giving it a bed and breakfast feel. He was very accommodating and changed us to a bigger room without us even asking when he knew we had a travel cot. What we found especially appealing was the ability to book for just one night on the weekend - something many other options didn't provide. The king deluxe room we had was large, well equipped, clean and tidy which at the price range easily met our expectations.
