Comfortable, quiet and peaceful hotel with terrific Cuisine…read more We spent three nights here in September. We enjoyed it a lot and would definitely go back. Don't be put off by the approach to the hotel (they seem to be touchy about not calling it an "auberge" even though that is in its name). The suburban neighborhood surrounds the hotel and it's hard to imagine what it will be like inside as you pull into a small driveway with an unassuming entrance where the signage is a bit downscale. But once you are inside, it's another story. You can get a room in the main house or a room in the cottages. We stayed in the cottages and are glad we did - they are more private, and have a patio to sit outside and read and have a drink. They are also a bit bigger. We had a small suite. There was even an espresso machine in the room. The bathrooms are excellent and modern and spacious. The linens are high quality and feel good to the touch. Some of the rooms have a Provençal theme - ask for one of those if you want that. The staff is terrific. They are very friendly and service-oriented. They will help you plan your day if you ask. They are multi lingual. They will attend to special requests or needs. The restaurant is outstanding and is the highlight of the experience. The chef is an artist. I think his name is Mr. Boucher. We took the gastronomic package for two of the nights and are glad we did. It is first class cuisine and service in a beautiful dining room that is comfortable and warm, but elegant. The staff here were plentiful in number and very obliging and attentive. The chef prepares excellent modern cuisine, and the choices are limited - which we liked since they were great choices and the chef puts a lot into each course. Between courses they offer a cheese tray with thirty five cheeses, many local ones. It's all part of a prix-fixe which is decently priced for the level of the cuisine. The spa is not much to get excited about, especially if you've been to nice spas. It feels very dated and worn around the edges. They say they will be doing some renovations soon. Until then, you'll have an indoor pool and a jacuzzi, some dim lights and a shower with a fancy name (chromotherapy) that weirdly changes colors and irritatingly shuts off every 20 seconds. And there is no relaxation room, or tea served, or soft music. The outdoor pool area is very nice, though the season is short. The grounds are pleasant and well-planted. The nice thing about this place is that it is family-owned, not a corporate venue. Actually there are three couples who own it and they all seem to work there including the chef. So you won't have the feeling of a high-powered spa hotel, but more of a personal and intimate experience that feels very authentic.

As a result, we visited not just the tourist spots like Pont du Gard, but wonderfully surprising small towns such as Gordes and Uzes and small wineries and restaurants in between. They loaned us lots of things and were very gracious. It was like visiting with your favorite Aunt and Uncle, but without the family obligation or drama. Plus it was helpful getting such detailed advice without the stress of having to translate it from French. As for the B&B itself, it's a lovely place situated a short walk from town, so it's quieter than being in the center of town but with the convenience of being able to walk to the wonderful market or cute shops/restaurants. The street was difficult to find by car without a map or GPS, and we didn't travel the way the website assumed we would. But once we ended up there, we were enchanted by the lovely terrace, sitting areas and lovely pool. The bedrooms were plenty big and the beds were comfortable. It would have been nice to have a door on the shower, but it was fine. There is a small water canal behind the property so there's always a sound of running water which is nice if you keep the windows open, however then you are subject to hearing cars pass on the short shared driveway which is only an issue if you're a very light sleeper. The breakfasts were as good as french continental breakfasts get. Nice muesli, yogurt, fresh delicious! croissants every day with a wonderful selection of spreads (delicious homemade preserves and local honeys), coffee/tea or juice. I don't think many places in France do eggs/hot breakfasts unfortunately, otherwise I'd drop a star. We very much enjoyed Saint Remy and our stay at Mas de Tourterelles and I'll add that October was a very nice time to go.

They went out of their way to make recommendations for restaurants and helped me to book a local tour guide. It was very easy to make a reservation via email and telephone, and when I had a very early train departure, they helped me to arrange a ride. The common areas of the guest house include a wonderful courtyard with lots of seating in the shade and sun, a sitting room with tourist information, and a dining room where breakfast was served. Room Sables, where I stayed, was a small and simply equipped, but charmingly decorated, room on the second floor of the house. The room included a bed, nightstand, desk and chair, and private restroom/shower. A large window opens up over the courtyard, which helped provide fresh air during the warm weather. I had a few complaints with the lodging. The ceiling fan in the room did not work well, which meant the room was extremely warm in the warm summer nights; the garden and fountain attract many mosquitoes. Since the room was so warm, I had to leave the window open at night, and I was covered in painful mosquito bites. I'm told this is a problem everywhere in Avignon, but it made the nights a bit unpleasant. The free wi-fi did not work from the rooms, only the ground level rooms and courtyard. Finally, their website described the accommodates as self-catering and described a stocked kitchen; however, when I arrived, I found there was a sign on the kitchen door which essentially said it was off-limits to guests. Perhaps it's only available when you rent the entire house? This was a disappointment, as I enjoy shopping at markets to make my own snacks. The owners' attitude was that we should eat at Avignon's restaurants instead. I understand their perspective, but did not feel this was advertised properly. I do want to stress that the owners were very nice and very pleasant to be around. In general, I found the other guests friendly and pleasant as well.

I LOVED this hotel…read more When I stayed here a few years ago, I found the interior of this place very modern and super chic. Looking at the pictures now, I still feel the same way. The bed was comfortable, the dimly lit rooms created a relaxing and sexy ambiance, and there were numerous pieces of furniture that I reaaally wanted to ship home. It was also very clean and all the staff was friendly and helpful. I also got an AMAZINGly good deal and paid less than I have at strategically located but outdated Best Westerns in the U.S. This hotel might not be considered "central," but being so close to Plaça d'Espanya, the hop on hop off bus was easily accessible. Taxis are also far cheaper in Spain than they are in France, Italy, and England.. so we used them frequently while in Spain. NOTE: This hotel is now known as the Pestana Arena.

If you can find the place on GPS, we did not, you go down a tiny little alley and once you find the door, it opens to a sweet courtyard with all the rooms above it, including her house (and the dog) She has a very sweet little room where she serves the breakfast and leaves her wine fridge open for you to have a glass of nice rose before or after you dinner. Very tasty, fresh fruits, jams, breads and meats for breakfast. We hope to return here one down and enjoy the town longer. I am sure you will not be disappointed in Saint Remy and mostly your accommodations if you stay here.

The downtown of Saint Rémy is so cute and charming and this property is directly in the center of the historic downtown. The streets in this part of town are walking only but it is very easy to park a few blocks away in the free parking provided by the property owner Christine. Christine is so amazing. I can't write it all here because my review would take up two many pages, but she makes your stay special and is there to assist and recommend in any way. She provides a lovely breakfast every morning with fresh croissants and baguettes, delicious jams, French ham and meats, fruits, etc. Quite a lovely spread. The property is so beautiful and charming. Something straight out of a dream. The room was lovely and every detail was thought about. I appreciated the still water bottles stocked in your room fridge and the fitted and flat sheet on the bed (I was surprised to find hardly any hotels or properties in Europe provide a flat sheet on the beds). The property was immaculately cared for, and every detail was given thorough care and attention. It was also immaculately clean. Lovely bedroom and beautiful updated bathroom with side by side sinks and a lovely tub that actually makes you want to take a bath. There was a lovely private rooftop terrace from our room and a lovely shared terrace on the ground floor where we ate dinner under the stars our first night (we arrived very late in the night and Christine was so sweet and helped get us food which was amazingly delicious from a nearby local bistro so that we could have dinner as all the restaurants would be closed by the time we arrived). As soon as you leave the gate from the property you are in a charming area filled with lovely shops and restaurants. It is so idyllic and you could just lose yourself in that town for a week without having a desire to leave. With that said it is such a good jumping off point to explore Gordes, Roussilon, Les Boux, Aix en Provence, Avignon, and many other places. Literally the only issue I could foresee anyone having with this property is if you were old and have a large suitcase and your room is on the top floor. We had huge suitcases and were on the top floor but it was no problem for me as I'm a youngish guy, but even if it is a problem for you just don't overpack, it's completely worth it to stay at this amazing, clean, charming, and relaxing property. One of my favorite properties I've ever stayed at and can't wait to stay there again. The only thing I would have changed is I would have stayed longer!
