You walk into L'Italienne au Chapeau Rouge and you know immediately you have stepped foot into a gourmet restaurant, the owners have a great passion for their craft.
But wait, things go sideways quickly and you learn that they only serve piadinas, in the US those are essentially paninis. Wait, what ?!
BUT wait, yes, and please don't leave. Please, please don't leave. For you are in for a treat.
These piadinas aren't made with just any ol' ingredients. Inferior ones they are not.
While chef Luisa prepares dishes in the kitchen, her husband illuminates all you need to know and more about what you are about to experience. All of the meats and some of the cheeses and produce come from a special region in eastern Italy south of Venice. They used to have a restaurant there and know all of the farms well.
You can select what you want for your piadina but why not leave that decision to them. That's what I did and it was excellent. Of course, they have a good selection of wines. They are artistes gourmands ! They also have beer and a grape juice for kids which is made from grapes of one of the wineries where they get their wine.
They have a light cheese course afterward and then dessert followed by coffee. Bien sûr ! Nous sommes à France !
