This was maybe our best meal here. They didn't open until 6:30 but we arrived at 6 and they let us sit inside until they were ready. Great food and service. I couldn't decide on a wine so our server was very helpful in picking one for me given what we ordered and let me try 3 of them before confirming one. On food, we loved the cheeses, charcuterie, escargots (though they were smaller than we are used to), and fries. The foie gras, sea breem with mussels, and shrimp were also good. Went to Avignon, France for first time and stopped with five friends at Le 46. Basically, the ambiance was one of those great outdoor plaza restaurants with decent food. Served was quick and attentive during our visit. Three of us had the duck tajine, which was spectacular. Another person had the salad with salmon which was also well received. The others just had garden salads. Overall, location was great, food was well prepared and staff did a great job. Enjoy!! read more

What a lovely place! Best food we've had in Avignon - just outstanding. Charming location on a quiet side street, with super friendly service. Our server spoke perfect English and made terrific wine recommendations and they were outstandingly helpful with substitutions to accommodate our various food limitations. Loved their menu and tapas-style offerings with also main dishes. Service was super prompt and friendly. After a surprise amusement-bouche, we had the foie gras, saumon fumé with frites, a citron meringue between the two of us and it was plenty! Additionally several glasses of Vallon Les Glauges white wine. Also appreciated that's off the beaten off away from the throng of tourists! We randomly picked this restaurant for our lunch as we loved the cute displays around the restaurant & were very happy with our choice! It was a typical Southern French restaurant with less than a dozen tables with full of diners with locals & tourists but we were seated in one of two remaining tables as we walked in. I opted for their special of the day dish , seafood stew & the hubby picked a salad with a local cheese. It came with a basket of fresh bread and delicious garlic mayonnaise . The salad was very lightly seasoned which was so good & the savory seafood stew was heavenly! The friendly service with smile was welcoming . Highly recommend if you are in Avignon! read more

Best restaurant in Avignon! There are many restaurants in the city, but unfortunately most of them are just tourist traps. This place is very good and the prices are reasonable. The seafood was delicious. Don't forget this is a wine bar as well, so their wine list contains more than 300 wines. I was impressed! read more

It was tasty- 3.5 stars I'd say, with the extra half star for the good service. We were just in Avignon for the day and we had to rush to meet a tour so we needed something quick and close to the castle (don't worry, we still managed to down a whole bottle of red wine). Luckily we found Le 46. The meal is standard bistro fare (meat or fish). While nothing really stood out, it's a good option if you find yourself in the same circumstance. I recommend the Turbot as well as the escargot and the mussels & razor clam dishes (the fries were good also). The wine recommended by the staff was excellent and complimented the seafood selections. Do yourself a favor and veer away from the square and come to this gem. The service and food were outstanding! Their special menu is always rotating; we ordered chorizo and a 5 cheese plate to start, as well as the steak (regular menu) and the fish and pasta specials. The chorizo was delicious and the cheeses were a nice variety- some creamy, some firmer. The fish was cod with Swiss chard and vegetables in an outstanding broth/sauce with a hint of pesto. The pasta was tagliatelle with cockles in a light sauce, and the cockles were bountiful. There's outdoor seating but with much less mayhem that the square can bring. Having family trip with the whole families is hard to eat outside. I feel starving most of the time cz I have to find a restaurant that satisfy the kids and elders first. I am very happy to find Le 46 on yelp during our trip in France. I did not have a chance to take any photos of the dish because everybody finished their food quick and clean. To tell you how great their food is, each kids ordered two dishes from the kids menu and finished all. It is not small portion at all. Oh most importantly they have AIR CONDITION inside!!! Easily the best food I've had in Avignon. Stumbled into it randomly based on the wine listings, and very glad I did. They dont have a huge menu, but what they do offer, they do it well. We ordered some local wine (When in the Rhone valley, why drink anything else??) And enjoyed the sun. Outdoor seating is offered of course. The service was very friendly, polite, and attentive, which is often hard to find in parts of France. I ordered the steak and frites, cooked medium. I got a perfectly medium cooked piece of beef, some crispy fries, and great bread with dijon. Very reasonable price, all local, and delicious. read more

Great spot for vegetarians and meat lovers! We had the butter squash ravioli, the burrata mozzarella, and the spring asparagus. Portions were a little small but they were very accommodating and extremely friendly. We also got a delicious bottle of Rosé as they have a very extensive wine selection which included many locals wines. Also I recommend getting the creme brûlée! Great service and delicious food. I had just arrived and found this place just outside of my hotel. Everything on the menu looked amazing but decided on the escargo and a seafood dish containing grilled vegetables and a fried risotto ball. The escargo was great. I'll admit, when the seafood dish came out I was sure because it just looked grilled but I did get scallop, fish, clams, a large prawn. Scallops were tender, fish was moist with crispy skin, and the prawns were sweet. What made it all come together was this garlicky rich sauce beneath the goodies that made it all come together. We just stopped for a beer, it's a little off-the-beaten track and one thing led to another & we stayed for dinner. It was magnificent, my personal recommendation is the chicken and risotto. Hard to give it less than a 4.5, they were accommodating, helpful, quick and very pleasant. My French is horrible yet no winces at my poor pronunciation and desire to taste the whole menu. Good options for those who don't eat meat and quick service early in the evening. We were fortunate enough to sit near the window and did not need to inhale all the exhaled cigarette smoke. We sat down for lunch with the unfortunate constraint that we needed to drop off half of our party at the airport soon, so we had to urge the staff to be quick, which is quite an un-French thing to do in a restaurant. They took it in stride, and we made it on time. We all had various salads, and were happy with what we received. We ate at Le 46 our last night in Avignon, and it was our favorite meal in the city. Unlike many other restaurants in the city, they didn't have a prix fixe menu, which went that we ended up spending a little more on à la carte, but it was very much worth it - we started with snails (classic but very good, in the shell) and then had the fish of the day and the special seafood plate, which was absolutely fantastic. Their wine menu is an entire book, with descriptions of all of the local wines. We were especially happy because they have a wide selection not only of full size bottles but also of smaller bottles, which are nice for two people. The waitress was very helpful walking us through the wines and helping us select one that we would like; plus, the prices were reasonable, and they didn't push us into spending more than we wanted to. The service was generally extremely warm, and they spoke English very well. A lovely experience, and I hope to be back! read more
