The entree featured two kinds of wurst, a slab of bacon, potatoes and their own signature sauerkraut. I loved the slab of bacon but the desert, an apple tart with raspberry sauce was phenomenal. Fortunately I ordered only a slice not the whole pie. I can resist anything but temptation. Many entree was under 12 Euros. In Strasbourg and in much of Europe the tax and tip is included. I love beer and am always willing to sample a local brew so I had the Fischer de Noel. L'Ancienne Douane is situated about two blocks from the famous Notre Dame Cathedral and about 1 km from the train station. Established in 1401, the restaurant was once the site of a custom house. The interior is divided into a number of sections, each having it's own character. Overall i would call it rustic French country. Reddish brown and white checkered table cloths with wooden tables brighten up the room. Service was extremely quick and efficient. I believe I was in the restaurant for only an hour. They accept American credit cards but it is better to have Euros. There are a lot of ATM machines in this central part of town, especially by the cathedral.
