Food is good, pizza is not individual size, I recommend sharing. Service was all over the map. There was no rhyme or reason when they brought food out to the table. It was a group of 6, two ordered carbonara (which was very good), two ordered pizza (delicious), and one order a calzone. One carbonara came out and the rest of sat and waited over 30 minutes from that point to get our food. We repeatedly asked the status of our food and they just gave the same answer "it is coming very soon". Soon is used very loosely. Once all the food arrived, it was delicious, no complaints there. Service just is really lacking. If you want good food and lousy service this is the place to go. My dining companions loved their massive pizza (which they wisely did a 1/2 & 1/2 split on vs ordering one for each of them once we saw how big the pies were). My pasta carbonara wasn't the one I ordered (pomodoro - did I mention the lively atmosphere?) and didn't arrive until my companions were nearly finished eating, but it was outstanding - perfectly al dente, great flavor - I struggled to put my fork down. Went because we wanted something other than Austrian food and was cheap and in Rick Steves book. It was fine. We put our name down and she got other people from outside but forgot us? Great restaurant in the city center tourist area . Fun atmosphere where they serve the menu in Italian, but they will also ask you if you would like a menu in English. The service personnel speak German, but they also speak Italian and English! I ordered the shrimp with gnocchi, and it was so awesome. Just the right portion, not really huge so you are not overstuffing yourself, because it could be really easy with this dish. My husband ordered the porcini mushroom with saffron on tagliatelle noodle. I tasted his and it was very delicious. The restaurant seemed quite large, and I get the impression they get a lot of tourists in there. Anyway, we ordered a pizza (pepperoni/salami and basil). When it came, I got half the pizza on my plate and my wife got the other half on her plate. Of course, this was a good sized pizza so the pizza went over the edge of the plate. Regardless, we ate it and it was good. I did find the pepperoni/salami to be a bit greasy, but that's common with that particular topping (though I still would have tried to clean it up a little if I were running the place). We came here on a busy Saturday, and should have known from the start that service would be slow. After waiting half an hour at the bar, we were seated. Another 20 or so minutes later we ordered our pizzas, and then set in for what would end up being more than an hour wait for 2 pizzas and a salad. A prize find near the edge of the Old City, especially for a non-Austrian native like me that tires of the ever-available fried pork, sausage and beer on offer everywhere pretty quickly. This was really good Italian fare for being outside of Italy and the prices were very reasonable considering where it is located. They are quite busy and my group luckily went early (showing up at 5:30 pm to eat an evening meal in Europe is almost viewed as a crime I'm pretty sure) and got in after a short wait at the bar. When we finished at 7 pm, the line was out the door and starting to grow significantly. The feel of the place is social, loud and casual and there is plenty of variety of interesting salads, fired pizzas, and pastas. A word of caution on the the portion sizes, especially for the pizzas...they are huge for the price. My group had salads and pastas and everyone at my table commented on how they would come back again the next night to get the exact same things because they were that good. This was a rewarding perfect ending to a tour of the Old City and the Christkindlmarkt after working in Salzburg all weekend and eating biergarten/wurst haus fare at every meal for the past 2 days. My table of 3 got out of here with a total tab of €71 for a huge meal with starters, mains, and 6 alcoholic beverages (no judging, we were walking everywhere and trying to fit in with the locals!) In my opinion, that was a very affordable European meal with outstanding food and friendly service that was eager to please. Me and my friend went to L'Osteria whilst on a weekend break to Austria. We tried to get into one of the other Italian restaurants on Yelp only to find it was closing (at 8.30pm on a Saturday night?!) That's one thing to be wary of in Salzburg, it does seem to be the norm to eat early as a lot of the restaurants have the last seating for food around 8/8.30pm. Anyhow, we stumbled across L'Osteria, and it looked hip and really busy. We managed to score the last available table. The waiter was absolutely lovely, with a great sense of humour. We drank good wine, and ate some good food. The portions are absolutely HUGE here. The starter garlic bread was literally about 1.5 feet wide and we couldn't fit it on the table. The mains were substantial to say the least. We couldn't finish even half of what we ordered. That said, that ain't a serious problem, is it?! I would recommend this place as a good spot for dinner on a Friday or Saturday night. Maybe book if you are a large group, as it did seem to be busy. Love coming here because the interior is cozy and has that wonderful Italian vibe and the prices are unbeatable for the city centre (and very mich affordable for a student like me)! Big selection of pizza, pasta and salads, I always go for the spaghetti pomodorini, such a simple dish but sooo good For dessert I order the pear crumble with froyo, not very Italian but super good, although in case you are in for something more authentic they also offer tiramisu, panna cotta and all that stuff Since the place is always packed, make sure to reserve a table in advance Service is sometimes better sometimes worse (not that fast but that is to be expected when they're so many customers) but for me that's not that much of a criteria in that case. This was a great find while in Salzburg! My mom and I are not heavy meat or seafood eaters, so we struggled while in Austria. We ended up visiting this place two nights in a row! The food: The food was delicious and the pasta was cooked fresh and perfect. We ordered a side salad, pizza, and an order of pasta to share on the first night... WAY too much food! The pizza was huge! the only downfall to the pizza was it was topped with mozzarella, and the mozzarella was not melted. Everything else was tasty and great! Reservations: I would recommend making a reservation, although both times we went, they were able to squeeze us in between reservations. I was in Salzburg for a littler over 4 days and ate at L'Osteria two nights in a row. First off, this restaurant is huge and every time I walked by it was packed with people. They offer plenty of outdoor seating too so it's perfect for when the weather is nice. Everything is also reasonably priced and they offer huge portions. The first night I was there I had the antipasti. It was so delicious. It's basically an assortment of pickled vegetables, raw squid and octopus, and olives. I'd eat it every day if I could. Sadly, the next night I was there it was late and after a certain hour the restaurant only offers pizza so I wasn't able to get it again :( I had the mushroom risotto with white wine sauce. It was so good. It's perfectly seasoned and they give you a lot of it. I wish I could've forced myself to eat the whole thing but it was just too much. The second night I was there I was in a bigger group so we ordered a couple of pizzas and lots of wine. We had the Capricciosa and the Rustica. The Capricciosa is covered in ham, mushrooms, artichokes and olives. The Rustica comes with tomatoes, olives, onions, oregano, and chili flakes. Both were delicious and they're huge pizzas! We ended up with a ton of leftovers. I think the service here is phenomenal. The waiters we had our second night were so friendly and let us stay and eat well past closing. read more

Must speak Italian. The waiter was so young and acted like he understood us. He didn't. The order was wrong and he never put in my pasta order. So I'm not sure how the pasta tastes. We came back because we had a decent experience the night before. We waited an hour for pizza. One hour. It's not our fault he got it wrong. We ordered margarita pizza and were given pizza with ham. My husband doesn't eat ham. We even showed him the picture of what we wanted to make sure he knew....once you get your food, it's decent. Much better options very close by.
