This place has the most amazing ethnic foods around! Great produce, a nice meat department with a butcher. Chorizo and morning sausages from many countries in Central and South America....and more! That being said, if you try to speak Spanish to the cashier, she will mostly speak back to you in English. I worked up my nerve to ask about a product that wasn't on the shelf, and she responded in Spanish, but immediately reverted to English, as if she were offended by my Spanish. So, if you are learning Spanish, practicing here, maybe isn't your best option. Little does she know I am a polyglot, so maybe next time I will just speak in Portuguese. She could have been friendlier like she was with the other Hispanic customers, just sayin'. read more

I totally love this store but I don't feel like I will ever go back again, my grandchildren and I went there to shop the other day and ran into a very disgruntled customer, in the store who made it his business to stay in my way, then tried to apologize to me because he knows what he did to my grandughter was wrong. Out of respect to my grands the other customers I allowed him to yell and scream at me, why he was so angry I didn't know. No one (employees) tried to defuse the situation . I experienced a racist situation and it's so sad that my grands had to experience this type behavior in a grocery store. After reading the reviews the reason no one intervened because they don't really care for African Americans it so true but I never noticed I just got my produce and leave but they never greet the customer but talk among themselves, which I thought was rude. I've been going about 5 years or more. But I'm done, I use to eat at Mia apa I stopped because they acted like it was a crime for African American to dine in, I have never ordered another meal from them that's been about ten years ago. Somehow I'd never been in here before today despite being a huge fan of ethnic grocery stores and someone who does cook a fair amount of Latin food. I found the store a bit smaller than I first expected but they have a lot of products all the same--indeed, they have a good selection of Caribbean Latin goods plus some Mexican/Central American and even a decent selection of West African foods and the all-essential red palm oil! I was not expecting that, but it's great they carry West African stuff because no one else seems to in town (inform me if I'm wrong here) plus a lot of these products are used in the Caribbean, too. This is also a pretty easy place to get to, despite being in a small and kind of weird, older, shopping center there's ample parking. Also, the bread they carry is very tasty-- be sure to get some of their bread while in for your groceries! Asked employee about a price. He was rude and seemed annoyed. Said he didn't know the price and went back to stocking. Dude knew English, the place was dead, not sure why he wouldn't help a customer. I'll shop elsewhere. read more

This is my go-to supermarket in Gainesville anytime I am looking for Latin American or Caribbean brands or ingredients. They also have a warmer with great pastries like quesitos, empanadas, and pan de bono, as well as a full service butcher. The service is quick and the employees are willing to help, most of them fluent in both English and Spanish. The shop itself is small, but cozy and well organized, taking both ingredient type and nationality into account. They have plenty of fresh produce, including things, like malanga and yuca, not easily found elsewhere in Gainesville. read more

Wow! Many products international and well stocked. Meat of variety cuts. I was impressed with the variety of produce and fruits from the islands. Some products a little high priced and some good priced, so depending on your shopping balances out. I highly recommend shopping here. read more

This is a small store but almost covers all your needs. They offer fresh vegetable, meat, poultry, dairy products, along with frozen and packaged items. Don't expect to find everything from your origin country but you won't leave empty handed. The staff is friendly and the store is clean and organized, prcies are very reasonable. read more

One of my "must stop here" places when I visit Gainesville. The store may be small but they have such a great variety of products! I love that they don't just have Mexican or just Central American- they have Caribbean, South American and even Spanish products, like chorizo. This is the only place between Central Florida & North Georgia where I've found Puerto Rican staples, Medalla, and Malta India by the case. Definitely worth shopping here! read more

One of the best Latin markets in Gainesville, and there aren't many. But it's clean, well organized, seems like they have everything. We used to buy our fresh Yucca here until we learned pulbix has it frozen already peeled. Save's on extra kitchen time. I don't know a lot about Latin food, but I love this place. They have a huge selection of fruits, vegetables, meats, cheese and pretty much everything. It's a great place to go and try new things. The staff could definitely be more helpful / friendly, and some of the meat looks like it sat there awhile, but I keep coming back. read more

Went last weekend (December 2015) and the girls working there were so nice! It's a small place but you'll find mostly everything you'll need to prepare your delicious hispanics/latinos recipes. I'll be back, I loved their prices, selection and AWESOME customer service. read more

I wish I could write a positive review. I have been shopping at this store for over 2 years out of necessity. Every time I go in, I am treated like I am a bother. I am NOT of Latin descent and I am made to feel like I don't belong here. I was in there today and when I walked in, there was a young man standing by the door eating his lunch. There was no hello or may I help you instead I got a look like 'would you move, I'm trying to get past you'. I picked up a few items and turned to walk to the back of the store there was another gentleman restocking and naturally I was in his way as well. When I went to the counter to pay for my purchase, the young man was sitting finishing his lunch and looked really exasperated that I was ready to check out. He rang up my item, did not tell me what my total was but just stood looking at me.. I was paying by credit card and I guess he did not hear me when I said 'credit', So he spoke in an elevated and aggravated tone ' debit or credit?' After my transaction he handed me my receipt and went back to eating! I told him to try to have a nice day in which he grunted and I was dismissed! I have NEVER ever been greeted or thanked for shopping there. I shop there because no other store has the items that I need. It always seem to be an inconvenience when I go in there to be waited on. The cashiers and managers are usually engaged in conversation in their native tongue and it seems to be a big problem that I interrupt them. I asked once to speak with the manager but found out it was the manager that was rude and abrupt that day! What is a person to do? I will have to spend the extra money to buy off the internet than to be treated like an after thought. It may be my color, or perhaps because I am not Latino, they don't seem to have any problems speaking to their own. This review probably wont make a bit of difference to them anyway. They prefer their own race and have made it clear that my money is welcome but I am not! Also every time I go the prices are higher than the last visit! Customer service makes or breaks a business that is really interested in SERVING their community. read more
