Fries are done perfectly every time. Not a fan of their poutine gravy. Smoked Meat is not bad either.

Di Rienzo's - Prosciutto and Havarti sandwich. $10.

This sandwich is literally the reason I downloaded this app…read more I've just spent the whole winter in Quebec and am now hitchhiking across Canada and decided to stay in Ottawa a few days. I booked 4 nights at the Saintlo jail hostel and when I came downstairs after a rejuvenating nap I saw that they had a list of recommendations sitting amongst a pile of other plastic sheets. Dirienzo's - the best ITALIAN SANDWICH in the city. I'm not really an Italian sandwich sort of person normally, maybe it was contributed by the burgeoning like for cured meats that I was acquiring after eating dried salami as my only source of food for the past week or so -- but who's going to pass up the chance to try the BEST of anything? I got there after taking 2 buses and was starting to become a bit concerned. I had $40 in my account and was hitchhiking across the country -- after all it was labelled the BEST in the city and that would normally come with a hefty price tag. When I first opened the door I instantly got greeted by the guy behind the counter, which made me feel welcomed and at ease. I looked up to view the selection of sandwiches that they had on offer and potentially the cheaper ones. I was surprised to see the sign that said $10 for ANY SANDWICH!! #booyah I was finding it hard to decide on which of the sandwiches to get since they all looked so appetising, but decided on number 16. The sandwich was massive for the price that it was. The bread was a perfect mix between durable so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hands, but soft enough that it was enjoyable, with the amount of bread contemplating he rest of the fillings just the right amount. I was pretty overwhelmed to be honest with how good it was. All of the ingredients including the lettuce (which I've found is usually the first thing places will skimp out on) were extremely fresh. I put in my coworker groupchat: "Anyone coming over across Canada after the season has to make a stop in Ottawa if they aren't already just to try one of these." Accompanied by a photo of my eyes watering with glee. My Nonna is always telling me how I need to learn Italian to be more connected to our culture and I've always just kindof brushed it off since I haven't needed to use it and we don't speak it much at home, but this has made me so proud to be Italian. As I continued to eat the sandwich sitting on a bench looking towards the city and the people playing basketball in the park, I found myself contemplating staying in Canada and raising my kids here in Ottawa so that they get to experience it themselves on a warm summer afternoon after picking them up from school. TL;DR/The Short Version: Deli serving up loaded sandwiches…read morein Hintonburg. A bit pricey, but tasty. The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)

We just came back from the Mecca of sandwiches at Old Tyme in Lafayette, LA. I thought there is no…read moreway anyone could possibly come close to the perfection of the Old Tyme Special. Prepare to be amazed............... We had heard about his place for months and how awesome it was so we finally decided to try it out. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. Don't walk, run to this place. It will change your life for what you think about sandwiches.

So just look for the Quickie and once you're inside you'll see the Meatheads in the corners. It's takeout only. Nowhere to sit and eat. Although they do have a couch to sit and wait. And wait you will, it took us over 30 minutes for our food. Lots of people phoned in their order or came in to order and left and came back. We just waited there, but we might phone in our order next time. I got the Kickin' Chicken Sandwich ($10) and made it a combo with fries and a can of pop (+$2). My mom got the Orleans Cheese Steak Sandwich ($15) and made it a combo with a poutine and a can of pop (+$4). My chicken sandwich was delicious. It was 2 pieces of breaded chicken tenders tossed in a spicy sauce on a bed of coleslaw, in a brioche bun. The menu said it comes with lettuce and tomatoes, but for some reason my sandwich was missing these ingredients. It was still really tasty, but I would have liked the extra vegetables. My fries overall were good, but some fries were kind of dry and hard. I enjoyed my mom's poutine a lot more because the cheese and gravy made the hard fries softer. Although the gravy tasted a bit fattier than I like, lol. I also had some of my mom's cheese steak and it was good too. It had cheese, mushrooms, onions, and pickles, in addition to the thinly sliced steak mixed in BBQ sauce. The bread was a bit like a baguette in density, which I liked because it didn't get soggy. I like how the containers were made of cardboard and are biodegradable. No styrofoam, yay! Service was friendly. The owner chatted with us a little. He is looking at opening a restaurant, as they are very busy and have pretty much outgrown their set up inside of the Quickie. His fiancee taking our orders was nice as well. Looking forward to trying their other items. They have specials not on their regular menu sometimes too. On the day we went it was fish and chips. Lots of free parking in the Quickie parking lot.

I was the only customer being served and was told it would take between 5-10 minutes which was a good sign as that meant it was being freshly cooked. It was worth the wait the burger was juicy and delicious. The portion sizes are very generous, the combo comes with medium-sized and I found that size to be more than enough. I could not finish the fries, which I should add were not instant fries that most fast food places serve, but fresh fries. The cook that served me was friendly and the kitchen was following COVID protocols. It is a small kitchen running out of a small store so it is only takeout or delivery but there are some tables outside which in normal times you could eat at. If you are in Orleans and looking for a good burger then I recommend this place, they also have wings which I am tempted to try.
