**First Class is FREE!!!**…read more I have been going to LDS for about a year now and I'm still just as excited to keep going as I was the first Tuesday night. If you love to dance and want some exercise, this is for you. Every Tuesday night there is a Zumba Fitness class at 6:30pm, a Salsa Beginners class at 6:30pm and a beginners Zumba Fitness class at 7:30pm. I was a little apprehensive when I first went. I had never done anything like that before but it was something that I really wanted to try out. The Instructors are SO friendly, I can't emphasise that enough. Believe me when I tell you that if you're worried about being uncoordinated or looking silly, no-one is paying attention, we're all trying to figure out what our feet are doing and why our arms are flailing about on their own :-). Apart from the awesome workout, the next biggest thing I get out of LDS is fun! It's fun to get some friends and go shake it together. Even when my friends can't make it I still have a laugh. The Instructors are a big draw card for this place. Hope to see you there! :-)

Watch out! The management are not ethical and have no sense of integrity…read more I went for a trial dance and enrolled, thinking I was paying $118.00, when I was charged $1180.00! The man knew I was distracted, never mentioned or showed me the amount and rushed me. When I realised I made a mistake, he refused to refund me. I have received no service, no contact from management despite numerous requests. Bad bad business. I told him I couldn't buy food or petrol and he still refused. Not a good way to get customers. I am disgusted and in extreme hardship. Will be spreading the word! Stay away ladies!

Prestige dance academy is a good school for when you are younger but for when you are older, I've…read morenoticed the choreography isn't very good and the dances suit younger children . At prestige you do not get very many opputunies and it's only really suited iif you want to dance for fun. I don't really think that overall Prestige dance academy is a very good school and you won't get far with dance. Just my opinion, no hate.

Unfortunately though, unless you're a trained professional, in a line-dancing club, or really, really drunk at Red Square, dancing isn't something you just do, whenever you want. Dancing Room is your chance to dance - sober, untrained and unfettered. Every Tuesday at 6pm, for a gold coin donation, a big group of people meet at the Reading Room and dancing their little hearts out. Silly dancing, serious dancing, only dancing. Endorphins flying everywhere. Dignified adults, having a good time, without the aid of drugs nor alcohol. It's heart-warming. And leg-warming if you're doing it Footloose style. There is a different DJ each week, and there is no stylistic preference. Hip-hop, Spanish music, 90s pop - it depends who is DJ'ing that week. It isn't that hard to get your turn DJ'ing either - just come along and have a chat to one of the organisers. There is also a special location occasionally - this week for example it is happening on the little island at Rymill Park (affectionately known in some circles as 'Goon Island'). And I like to think I can keep it up, for the most park. There is one activity I cannot, however, and that's dancing. I'm completely ignorant and untalented. I can tap my foot and shake my head to a beat REALLY well, but I've no idea what to do past that. So when my friends dragged me along to the 'Dancing Room' assuring me I 'wouldn't have to dance', that I could just 'sit and watch'. This was a stark lie. I was given no quarter! But because everyone's really laid back here, I didn't feel AS awkward as I normally might, and I had a great chance to study other dancers and try my best to learn just what the friggen hell I was supposed to be doing.

There was a shortage of men/leaders in this particular class (like most dance classes around town), and whilst it says on their website you do not need to bring a partner, you will certainly get more out of it if you do. I have done a solo-Charleston cause with Swing Sesh and that truly was single-friendly. The lindy hop class managed to cater to all varying abilities and maintained everyone's interest. The more experienced beginners honed their skills and learnt a few new steps, whilst we virginal swingers were never left behind. I completed the class feeling comfortable with about four or five manoeuvres. The art deco hall is entirely apt for learning dances of the 1920's and 30's, and is equally as welcoming as the dance teachers. Even the most gung-ho of students can avoid accidentally half-stepping on anyone else in the spacious ballroom. Though you don't tend to flip around so much as a beginner, it still works up quite a sweat, but all is kept pleasant by the hall's air-conditioner. Following the beginners' lindy hop and swing class on a Thursday, The Swing Sesh Stomp unfurls from 9pm. The Stomp is a chance for dancers of all levels to whirl the night away to DJs spinning swinging hits. It's a good chance to practice what you've learnt, or just have fun and meet some new people. For first timers' the first class is half-price and I recommend you give it a try to see whether it's your thing before investing in passes. Once you've fallen in love with this hip-scene, the six class pass is definitely the way to go and can be used for a variety of classes over two months. Thanks to these Swing Sesh classes I'll soon be step, step, triple-step, stepping along with the best of them, and until then, I feel totally at ease fumbling along in their safe and friendly learning environment.

Granted, this review is based on just one experience last Thursday evening but it was so enjoyable that we'll be back. The 8pm lesson at the Estonian Hall on Jeffcott was for East Coast Swing and the instructors broke the steps down bit by bit. You get to try a step or 2 then partners move to the next person and they build up the dance. From 9pm the bar opens and it's a social event to try the steps or make some new friends. From just one lesson we were on the floor dancing (or at least trying) with a variety of friendly regulars. A blast although I'm told that other Swing dances can take a bit more practice than 1 lesson to feel confident enough to give it a go. Got to try an interesting Estonian cider for the first time - very nice! Take a risk and give Swing Sesh a go - you'll be glad you did!
