We were only in Vernazza for 2 days, but visited Il Pirata multiple times. The main guy running the…read morecafe is very chatty and runs the pastry side of the business, while his brother apparently runs the rest of the food menu. Everything we tried was delicious, and appealed to me more than the super-touristy spots further down the road (though obviously most of the clientele here are also tourists). Prices seemed reasonable for the amount/quantity of food. Most importantly, Il Parata sells toilet paper, which proved hard to come by in Vernazza. Be sure to arrive before 5pm if you want food (outside of cannolis, which were available later).

The only shame is that I can't remember the owners name, but I definitely remember his good…read morehospitable energy and great food. He was so passionate about each pastry and dish which makes all the difference. Some chefs are just robotically serving up something to make money, but once in a while you come across the few special ones who are crafting their passion into an experience of flavor - they care about the customer, they care about the food, they want to see smiles and make your day memorable. They create an atmosphere out of their own infectious energy. These artists are truly making the world a better place and I can definitely say that about this establishment. They served this pistachio cannoli which was loaded with ricotta and actual pistachio flavor touched with orange, which was the best cannoli we had through a month of gluttonous Italian adventure. Their pistachio croissant matched the greatness and in fact was even better than any that we found in France! The berry panna cotta was also perfectly balanced being quite the treat yet clean feeling; the trademark Cinque Terre pesto gnocchi of course hit the spot; and the walnut ravioli sheesh what flavor as well as unique factor - dare I say, I even tasted a hint of hazelnut. If you go to Cinque Terre they say have have to go to Vernazza, and if you go to Vernazza I'm saying you have to visit Il Pirata. It's a little peace away from the madness tucked into the top of the street. They will treat you right

It reminds me of when I first lived in China, over 20 years ago. When locals would construct a…read morebusiness to appeal to westerners, a few things would be jarringly just slightly off. Such is the case of the 1950 American diner in Florence. Perhaps we should give them the benefit of the doubt for their "artistic interpretation" of an American diner? You'll note the playlist of "American rock and roll" are cover artists singing the songs reminiscent of the era, but not precisely from the era. And the cover artists are unrecognizable. The walls are full of reproduction items and ads from the era. The food was ok in preparation and plating, but it's overpriced for what you get. There was a woman on roller skates, and apparently, that was her only job, she wasn't taking orders or delivering food. Just skating. They have some arcade and pinball machines on the lower level. This visit was early April 2022, and they insisted on seeing vax proof before allowing you in. One could have a lot of trips to McDonald's for what you'll spend here. Also, they should add "American breakfast" to the menu, and open earlier than 7PM.

Plus points: * The burgers are delicious and the desserts even better. * The restaurant is delicious, American-style 50ies, complete with a Cadillac, waiters and waitresses with suspenders or as pin up on skates. Minus points: * The disorganization. You must book in advance to be able to have a nice opportunity to wait half an hour / an hour for a table. Oh yes, because would you expect to have the table you reserved without waiting? Too simple! They always invoke the excuse of something unexpected that they just couldn't imagine would happen exactly today ... * Being a bit 'naught. To get to this Diner you must have a car, cause it is out of the city center, out of the city center surroundings, in the industrial area of Calenzano ... Landscape 2.0 Despite everything you do still forgive, as soon as you can sit down: you always get out satisfied and full as an egg. Better organization in the one opened in Florence, anyway. Recommended bacon cheeseburger, the banana split and the Oreo cake. Even the chocolate milkshake isn't that bad.
