So, I'm from NYC and I'm Dominican. I was very excited to see this place in Buffalo, but we got really disappointed. If you want real Dominican food that you can at least stomach without being disgusted, try Latino Cuisine at the Galleria Mall. We came here and got the mac and cheese, ribs with yellow rice, and the fried pork bites with yellow rice. First, we ordered the mac and cheese. It came once we were done with our two first meals, which we couldn't even finish. It was basically a soup with a cup of actual macaroni; the rest was just cheese liquid, very disgusting, and it doesn't look at all like what they advertise on DoorDash/Uber Eats. The rice wasn't actual Dominican rice; it had corn in it. They had no moro, and when I asked for it, he put huge brown beans with the sauce that ruined the rice. Also, they only had rice with corn or white rice. The fried pork bites were really dry; they needed a sauce. The only thing we liked were the ribs slathered in BBQ sauce, which was still mediocre. The service was awful, trying to rush you into making a decision just for the food to take ages. He got annoyed by other customers asking questions and modifications. They only had one person in the back cooking, and if they don't "feel like it," it doesn't get done even if it's on the menu. At one point, it felt like we were getting punked because everyone else was getting four plates worth, and they had amazing reviews online. Huge money waste! Almost 50 dollars--back home, I'll tell you, this would have been 35 max. Everything was off from the service to the food in other places where Dominican food is common like nyc or Pennsylvania allentown people who work are respectful and make good food. They bring that Dominican experience over to the U.S, this really sucked. Sadly no pictures taken as we threw the food out and this was a couple days ago. My husband was super excited to go here since he is Dominican and has been looking for a Dominican restaurant to go too. Unfortunately we will not be back. We order one medium plate of chicharron with tostones, one large juice and a bottle of coke. The chicharrones were so dry and overcooked and they still served it like that. No amount of lime juice was helping that. When he went up to pay they charged him $36 . We got one medium size plate of food and two drinks so I was super confused how that was $36. They literally have the plate sizes and prices at the front and it says $14 for a medium size plate and a large juice is $6 so those numbers just didn't add up. As an avid hip-hop consumer, I loved the fact that they were playing the late Pop Smoke (RIP) while I waited for my breakfast sandwich. Pre-Covid-19 I used to stop in for lunch with colleagues. For $10 I can get a plate of rice and pernil (or bbq chicken or ribs) and beans, and the serving is more than I can finish. Just off the Buff State campus, nestled in the back corner of where a neighborhood turns industrial, is this hidden gem. Atmosphere is casual, an old corner bar turned into a comfortable neighborhood dining place. A friend and I were just talking about our experience here and I realized that I never wrote a review. He and I went a month or two ago. This was his first visit and my second. Specifically we were talking about the guy working there that day who was just so excited to tell us about everything on the buffet and menu. He was really like an enthusiastic tour guide to Dominican cuisine. The first time I came I experienced similar hospitality as well. This conversation branched off an earlier discussion on places that make you really feel welcome versus those where you almost feel unwelcome. La Casa De Sabores was obviously the welcoming example. So then we started reminiscing about the food. This time around I had the Mofongo with pernil. Each order of Mofongo is made fresh and they do let you know that the wait for this dish will be a little longer than others. For appetizers, we started with some pastelitos and sorullos from the buffet. Everything was tasty and satisfying. I needed to take half of the Mofongo home because it was more than I could eat for one meal. One note: heavy garlic in the mofongo. I love garlic but if you don't, the Mofongo might not be fore you. The first time I came with an ex. He wasn't an ex at the time of course but I have no idea what title to even use. That's not the point. The point is, we were each going to get a container of food from the buffet, but when the guy showed us the size of the container, we decided to just share one. Food - 3 Price - 5 Service - 4 Atmosphere - 2 I have learned this lesson so many times but I keep doing it anyway. Do not get a steak from Dominican joints. I want to be wrong but it just hasn't happened yet. The steak had some sort of sauce on it. It's just not for me. It leaned more towards pot roast shredded meat than steak. Always get the chicken or pork. Get the Pernil. The pork is delicious, I love the crunchy pieces of pork skin. They have extremely large portions, and they certainly don't skimp on size. A large can feed you a few times or a family. Another thing to note is that the food here has more or a tomato base for the rice. Some people like that and some don't. At the end of the day, we may return if we are in the area. I did enjoy the Pernil and I think you can't go wrong getting that meal. read more

(*TIP: I order mines with plantains) Pollo Al Horno with yellow rice, beans, and maduros (extra $2.00) - (small $8.00) - Great portion for a quick lunch bite! But I would recommend getting a medium or large if you're grabbing dinner, you'll get more chicken. Pernil with rice beans and maduros (extra $2.00) - Medium ($10.00) -Roasted pork with choice of rice and sweet plantains. Cooked to perfection, the meat was juicy! Great portions and affordable pricing definitely a gem tucked neatly away in the upper west-side. There are quite a few restaurants that offer an array of Caribbean cuisine but honestly, none compare to this one. I have no doubt this place will be really successful in Buffalo. *There is a 3-Grant bus stop right at the corner of Grant & Letchworth St about a minute away from the restaurant.
