The perfect getaway in the middle of Manhattan. The location in Gramercy is basically a transplant from Puerto Rico, where it was first opened. The wellness center has both tropical island and old New York vibes. A place where you can easily relax and disconnect from the present time. I did the 1 hour flotation. Let me start out by saying I had originally rated it as 1 star, but after walking around afterward, I decided to walk back and ask for a refund. The nice man at the front desk was very accommodating and refunded me my $80. So, as far as customer service, this place is great. Unfortunately, the rest of my experience was quite bad. The idea of the flotation tank is sensory deprivation. Its supposed to be pitch black. It is. It's supposed to be completely silent. It is not. The whole time I was lying there, I heard something clicking. Every couple of seconds: click. And 2 seconds later: click. And as if that was not annoying enough, once in a while, the clicking stopped. For about 8 or 10 seconds, I thought "Finally, it's quiet!" Then it starts again. Clicks and clicks and clicks, every few seconds or so. Turns out, I learned while I was leaving that the clicking noise was the water heater that's designed to match the water temp with your skin temperature. But, it is so distracting that I just kept getting more and more ticked off. All the while, it's hot and humid, so the sweat begins dropping into your eyes, but you can't do anything about it, because if you wipe your eyes, you get Epsom salt in them. Actually, on second thought, that would've been preferable. But neither lying in a humid bath tub with tapping sounds every 3 seconds nor putting Epsom salt in my eyes are worth $80. This place was a disappointment. Booking a package over the phone was a hassle and that should have been my first sign. The place is cluttered, drafty, and not set up well for a relaxing experience. Hearing employees discuss clients "she is a piece of work", and a less than pleasant odor topped off the experience. The actual people who provided my treatments- Chastity and Elfy - were good and that's the only reason I can muster up a two-star review. I will not be going back. read more

I've been obsessed with the idea of floating for a while now, and when I discovered that La Casa has a floatation room, I knew I had to go. The spa itself has a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere that reminds me of being in a bungalow. It sets the tone for what customers can expect for the rest of their time at La Casa. For all you float snobs out there: it is indeed a room, not a tank. This was my first time floating, so I can't speak to which is better. I wish I could remember the name of the gentleman who was working there that day. He was very helpful and explained everything to me thoroughly. They provide shampoo and soap for you to use before entering the tank to make sure no excess dirt and oil gets into the water. You then step into the room, close the opaque black door behind you, sit in the tub and lay back. I feel like I made a few rookie mistakes. 1) I really should have given myself some time with the lights on to get adjusted to the sensation of being weightless before turning the light off. Complete darkness and weightlessness all at the same time can be disorienting. 2) I should have just been honest with myself and used the little inflatable pillow from the get-go. I thought I could just "force" my neck muscles to relax, but if I had used the inflatable pillow from the beginning I would have gotten better results 3) I should NOT have shaved before floating. Definitely felt the sting in a few places 4) I should have asked the gentleman to keep the music off. The deep bassy tones under the water were almost deafening at points As far as what I actually experienced, well, I'll let you all try it for yourself. La Casa Day Spa is a fantastic place and I can't believe that everyone and their mom isn't beating down the door to get an appt. The setting is very relaxed and extraordinarily peaceful. I got my first colonic here today and it was a much different experience than I had pictured in my head. First of all, the room is very calming rather than sterile and cold. Cher was very friendly and great at putting me at ease and making sure I was comfortable. She was professional and respectful of the situation at hand. Not chatty like some spa staff we've all encountered. She asked questions about my lifestyle and diet to make recommendations on how I could improve my digestive health. I enjoyed my experience so much that I scheduled my next appt before I left. I'm very interested to try a float on my next visit! The only "note" I can make about La Casa is that it could use a cleaning lady. The treatment room, lobby and changing room were all neat and tidy, but the bathroom was in need of some attention. Not in an offputting way, but more along the lines of the small things we notice in our own homes and accept out of our own laziness. read more

I agree with the first review, granola vibe all the way. Went for a day of treating myself to pampering with a friend from out of town. Was hopeful and excited about this place because the prices seemed reasonable for a deep tissue massage. Looks outdated, but people are friendly and the place is basic. My masseuse was good, very strong! My friend got a salt bath and said it was awesome. There were lots of posters of the digestive system and tons of appointments seem to be coming in for colonics. I have never had one, but it freaked me out a little bit to think of people getting their poop sucked out in all these different rooms around me. read more

5 stars! yes, no kidding! WHY? well, la casa day spa has a couple of things to offer which you'd have to spend a lot of time going around and looking for to find them. and they have them both right in the center of the city! 1. ozone sauna it's basically a box you sit in where your head sticks out. steam is let in and ozone. the steam opens your pores and makes it possible for the ozone to enter your body. the health benefits of this are too numerous to list them all. but most of all: it eliminates all the toxins, heavy metals, poisons, bacteria, viruses, fungi, inflammations from your body. it helped me amazingly with my arthritis. it helped me recover from a back injury inflicted at work. after having done the sauna i was able to go back to work the day after. and the price is awesome too: $75 for one 30min session, $50 if you bring one other person along with you. you can't beat that! 2. pulsed magnetic machine the idea behind this is this more or less: you wrap cables around parts of your body where you have ailments you want to get rid of. through the cables runs a magnetic field generated electrically by the machine. this machine basically restored my lyme disease ridden body to a degree that i could exhaust myself at the gym again like in the good ol times. it also works miracles for my menstrual migraines. it is just a miracle machine that's the best description for it. a friend of mine had a pain in her ankle, she could not walk. she went there for a 10min session and walked out of the spa normally and pain free!!! they offer it for $60 the first session and $90 for the consecutive. and every cent is worth it! i really can't imagine living without this machine. at least until i get all of the lyme critters out of my body ... i can't believe this place is right across the street from my work. that's too good to be true! all power to jane and gregg who run the spa. i love them!!! it's true what the other reviewer said though: gregg does not answer the phone a lot, but you can always leave a message and he'll get back to you shortly afterwards. so don't get discouraged by that. read more

I have been developing craters (actual craters!) in my skull for the last couple of years. At the front of my head. They got really more pronounced last winter and I figured out that it was a Vitamin D deficiency. I have been taking 1000mg of D3 daily for the last couple of years, but it made only a slight difference. Then Jane Goldberg at La Casa recommend I start taking this PH Miracle D supplement, and the craters have completely gone. And I have been taking it only once every 3 or 4 days. Getting this problem resolved is a giant weight off my mind. These guys REALLY know what they're talking about when it comes to health. read more

I've been an off and on long time customer of La Casa and I've never had any problems (well, except that one time many, many years ago when Greg and I had a little misunderstanding about a scheduled/cancelled (?) appointment; but we settled it amicably). I don't trust anyone else with my colon therapy. Cher and Gaia are excellent at putting you at ease (I have shy bowels) and getting to the root of your health issues. Then Greg gives you a nice piping hot cup of tea afterwards to help you relax before you hit the road (colonics can be draining if you've been eating poorly). It's always so nice and quiet there and you never run into other customers in the common areas. Also, I like the convenience of storage lockers for my things. Sadly, I haven't availed myself to any of their other services, so I can't comment on them. But I'm willing to bet their other services are just as relaxing and restorative. I plan to visit to begin detoxing again as soon as my schedule permits! read more

Came here to try the Flotation/Sensory Deprivation Tank. The experience was incredible. Euphoric. The clicking sound (mentioned in people's earlier reviews) was not there (I almost didn't go because of those reviews but I'm glad I did). It was pitch black. The guy at the front counter was nice and to the point. If you want to try Flotation, give this place a go. I've come here twice in the past 5 or so years. At first I did the Japanese ion foot bath--lovely. Lately I did the ozone thereapy (I had strep throat) and did not want to take an antibiotic. Within 24 hours my strep was completely gone and I also noticed that my candida (overshare) was gone! The staff was very kind and super helpful. The spa is lovely and very homelike! And I know most people don't talk about this stuff in polite company, but if you are ever going to get "colon therapy" (aka a colonic), you should get it done by Sher. Got a flotation session here for my birthday and really enjoyed it. The man working that day was very friendly and welcoming and the overall atmosphere itself was calm and relaxing. I was hoping for a bit more of a sensory-deprivation experience, but I kept floating into the corners of the flotation tub which kept grounding me in reality. Also, even with earplugs in I could hear music occasionally coming from other parts of the building, but that's a New York problem, and not the fault of the spa. But even though I couldn't really lose myself in the flotation experience it was still really soothing and forced me to blow the dust off of some of my meditation skills which is always a good thing. I did feel very relaxed and exfoliated afterwards, and would like to try it again. read more

Ugh..I wish I had read these reviews. I went for the floatation and had the exact experience as Ross B. - the DAMN CLICKING. I thought I was hallucinating and it was not a relaxing experience at all. The water temperature was definitely off and you can hear people moving around outside as well. Does not rate well in terms of cleanliness either. I will likewise be asking for a refund though, as Ross points out, there is a nice man at the desk so I feel bad leaving this review. TLDR; Do not go here for floatation. read more

I went here for floatation a few times. It was a great experience the staff is super respectful and helpful. I've been meaning to go back for a lymphatic drainage massage but haven't had the chance. They only book this treatment on the weekends which can be a hassle for people who work those days. La Casa is the WORST place in the entire New York State!!!!! Arrived 30 min before my schedule appointment, the door to the building was close, for 30 min from 6:30-7pm I rang the bell, called 10 times and left many messages no one from the office bother to answer the phone or open the door for me. The temperature outside was 101 degrees with 95% humidity. Finally around 7pm a tenant left the building and I got to enter the building. obviously I was furious!!!! I cancelled my 7pm appointment. The service is disgraceful, Shameful and embarrassing. The stuff don't respect their customers. One star is too much, They deserve no stars at all. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!! People should try to go to queens colonic center 1/2 the price and only 20 min subway ride. the service and facility is absolutely Amazing. Really worth the trip. read more

The waiting room in this spa is really relaxing..nice hardwood floors, a cozy vibe with almost tropical decor. I went here for floatation, I read about it and figured it was just the thing I needed. The guy who was working (name slips my mind) was really helpful and explained everything to me which was nice because I had no idea what I was walking into. The floatation itself is kind of a crazy idea, but I can see if I did it a few more times I would really get into it. The facility though, wasn't the greatest. I expected a lot from just being in the waiting room, but the room with the floatation pool reminded me of a locker room at a swimming pool. It just didn't have that spa type of environment at all (even though the rest of the spa and the massage rooms look really nice). There is a shower in the same room as the pool, but the soap and shampoo (no conditioner) were in this wall mounted device, and after using it I really didn't feel that clean-and you need to shower after because there is so much salt from the pool. I would just expect that for what you are paying, and at a spa, you would have a nice line of products to use. So in that aspect, after the floatation I was relaxed, but I didn't feel so clean-I was using some crappy soap. I just think the facility itself and their products could use an upgrade. If I were to go again, I'd bring my own shampoo/conditioner/soap to use. Maybe my expectation is not accurate, I don't know what other floatation tanks/pools are like since I've never done it, but I was told if you want to experience floatation, go to this spa because it's so nice. I love this place. I float regularly and often stay and chat with the staff long after it's done. Greg is a really great guy. Reading some reviews, some people seem bothered by various aspects of the float tank. I've floated at La Casa 15+ times and think it's a great float. It's significantly better than other places I've floated - it's more of a tub, which is way less claustrophobic than the tanks I've been in. No float tanks are perfectly silent, all of them will have water that will burn your eyes if you rub them, etc. The point of float is to relax and be with what is. That's hard, but this tank is what you need to get the job done. I'll be there tomorrow for another float, just waiting for them to open to make the call :) read more

I just started going there and bought a pkg of treatments. I missed one of my treatments and was told I would be charged 1/2 of the treatment. I tried to reschedule for later that day but was told the policy stands. Unfortunately I was never explained the policy ever. I told the owner that and he said too bad. They also never send you a reminder of any sort. I asked for a 1st time exception since I was never told of the policy and he said no. Sometimes you have to look at the situation and make exceptions. After doing research about this amazing therapy, widely used in Japan and other alternative forward thinking countries I was intrigued to say the least. More than a spa that just offers very friendly, experienced colon therapist, a float tank, massages, facials and some other usual spa therapies. THIS PLACE OFFER MORE! Like the ozone bath there is also a detox salt float room, bio mat therapies, a vibration board and many more amazing healing tools that you do not see many places in NYC! Viva La Casa! I love this place. I got my first colonic here over a year ago and have been coming ever since. Gregg (at the front desk) is incredibly kind and accommodating and always ensures I have a cup of tea in my hand so I can sit and relax before my treatment. I have only had colonics here but if my budget loosens up and I can start splurging on other services, I would be happy to try out of number of things they offer (see their full menu of services- it's pretty extensive). PLEASE NOTE: Their prices are not any higher than the industry standard and are actually pretty reasonable. I just mean that I personally am on a tight budget; not that their prices are high. Cher is an AMAZING colon therapist. The first time I went, she was very thorough at providing all the information I needed, asking questions about my medical history and diet, and getting me acquainted and comfortable with what she was doing. Then, she gave me the run-down on what types of things to eat/drink and what to avoid directly following my colonic. Since that first time, she skips all the info as we've already covered it so the session is more direct and efficient. She is a kind soul and great person to get to know! In addition to her interesting background and training in colon therapy and nutrition, she is incredibly creative, sweet, and a real smart cookie. She would make anyone feel comfortable and cared for as she geniuinely seeks to help people. I always leave here feeling great! read more

The only reason that I am giving this one star is because the act of floating (not his flotation tank) was great BUT DO IT ELSEWHERE! FIrst, when I arrived (@ 20 minutes before my session) I stood in the cold and rain buzzing their front desk to get in and calling multiple times, no one picked up. The owner (I think he was the owner) comes in behind me and asks if i am trying to go to the spa. I said yes. He doesnt apologize just brings me up and gives me the paper work. Very unprofessional and rude. Secondly, when I was in the floatation tank, probably for the last 20 minutes of my session, I kept hearing this "drip drop". Very, very annoying when the whole purpose of the tank is sensory deprivation. I literally kept changing my position and looking around to find out what was making the noise. I finally just got up, before my session had ended, and went and took a shower.I told the owner about it when I got out. He sad it was due to the heating system and there is nothing he could do. Float Room Review Only: unfortunately I have to say: stay away. I'd read the reviews calling it "outdated", etc, but I'd really wanted to float, & this is the only place in NY w a float room (other than 1 other spa that has the worst reviews ever, including claims of feces in the water). I'm sure this was a really nice float-room setup when it was 1st installed, but they need to spend the cash to make necessary repairs, thoroughly clean/disinfect, & install a system in the exterior shower/locker room area to keep the float tub's moisture from lurking & turning into mold & mildew. I'm FAR from a germaphobe or neat-freak (I don't blink twice about showering & changing at a public pool), & I can handle places that are a little "unkempt" or "locker-room-level" of clean, but this was below locker-room-clean. (Maybe we can nominate them for an Extreme Spa Makeover, or call Tabitha to set them straight! I'd love to see this place succeed, and a good float place is badly needed in this city.) The walls of the float room itself have some ripples & bulges where the moisture has caused them to buckle over the years. The guy told me the music speaker hasn't worked in years. It was dimly lit when I went in the float room, but I spotted small sections of mold/algae/mildew in the lower corners on the walls. The shower itself has lots of mildew in the grout, & the tiles are black so who knows what's growing on them. They should keep their spa at least as clean as I keep my bathroom--(I don't even clean my bathroom that often, but it is WAY cleaner than this one). I was glad I brought flipflops & my own towel & toiletries, because I was pretty grossed out showering in that space (& it takes a LOT to gross me out). Unfortunately, after you've relaxed by floating, your muscles tense right up as soon as you get out & have to shower down in that gross shower. Other reviewers have stated that the exterior changing area is more like a locker room, and although I don't require a lot from a bare-bones "spa", this place needs to do a few simple upgrades to make this room clutter-free & upgraded so that it at least feels like a nice, clean, tidy place that you don't mind changing & showering in--right now, it reminds me more of a shower area that your kinda-crazy-kinda-hoarder-dollar-store-shopping-great-aunt might have in her house: Crappy old towel shelves from the dollar store, a tiny hair-dryer that is permanently attached to the wall like you'd find in a seedy motel, and they have a bunch of plastic bath scrubbies hanging around, but they're not sealed & don't look new--so I assume they've been used & then washed & hung out for reuse: no thanks. As someone else pointed out: shampoo etc are in a push-dispenser glued to the wall of the shower--is it really that hard to install an IKEA shower shelf & have "nice" bottles of toiletries for spa visitors? As for the float: yes, it was very relaxing, & my muscles have never been looser (until I had to get out & shower in the mildew-shower, then I tensed up again). But I also suspect the float tub is maybe not cleaned as regularly as it should be, because: ...I wound up calling them a few days after my float because I got ear infections in both ears, even though I used ear plugs. (I haven't had an ear infection since I was 4.) I asked if the water had been cleaned recently or not, as I was concerned I might develop other health problems if the ear infections were due to something in the water, rather than just water getting caught in my ears. The guy was concerned about my ears, and was nice about me calling, but mostly just gave me ear infection advice (saying "it's just water trapped in your ears"). He also told me that the water is so salty that no bacteria can grow (then how is mold growing on the walls of the place?) and he said that they completely changed the water after every floater--maybe this is true, but I'm skeptical, since I was told to hurry my shower for the next floater booked in the next hour block right after me, but I didn't see any staff go in after I left the room to do any maintenance/water-changing...& I certainly didn't see anyone "readying" the "new" water right before my float session began. Don't get me wrong, they were nice people, it was reasonably priced, they don't mean any ill intent, & floating IS incredibly relaxing & wonderful. But they need to clean & renovate this float area before they allow people to use it. Sadly, unless another CLEAN spa opens a float room, I'll have to float only when I'm in some other town with a reputable, clean float room, because I'm not coming back to La Casa, & I'm sure as hell not trying out the other "poop tub" float place that is also in h read more

This was a horrible experience. They tell you to arrive early so I got there 15 minutes early and just sat there waiting the entire time. I was scheduled for a colonic. They say it is an hour, but by the time all the blabbing is done the actual procedure is only about 40 minutes. Re: float room Spa is not at all handicapped accessible with super steep stairs. Pay attention to similar reviews - staff IS friendly, but doesn't manage time well, so can, in turn, rush you. Temperature is fickle and uneven. It should be very controlled. If you are at all adverse to mold - go elsewhere for floatation. The float room is separate, but the ceiling is full of visible mold and it was so difficult to breathe due to the mold that I just spent the entire time trying to not jump out and leave. It was a struggle to relax due to the air quality. The water was not at all clear (cloudy and color) - gray in fact - perhaps leftover from a treatment additive which I did not want to try. The owner walking into your float room and tapping on the blacked out glass door of the float tank itself and requiring you to tap back seems so awkward and outdated. While it maintains visual privacy, it is a definite feeling of massively invading your personal space while you are supposed to be relaxing in the buff. (How about a knock on the door to the float room (without entering and without knocking right next to your head on the tank wall) and waiting to hear if the door opens/ shower goes on within a minute? Most have music signals, but speakers don't work here. No excuse though to not stay out of people's very private sanctuary you ought to be providing with this service.) Dead plants are a turn off and cleaning is quite lax. Shower poufs are reused, very old, and put through the washing machine. I'd say bring your own, but I'd instead say go elsewhere - like Blue Light Floatation or the best I've found, ifloatspa in Westport, Connecticut which has 4 tanks and is beautiful with great staff that keeps everything pretty meticulously cleaned. That makes a really nice little weekend away (nearby high-end shops + South Norwalk with the aquarium, Chocopolgie Cafe, and FatCat Pizza (gluten free and breakfast pizza avail as well as a great kale and quinoa salad) and little shops). My Mom gave me a gift certificate for a colonic for my birthday. I thought maybe she had started to hate me - lol :-). I decided not to let the money go to waste and made the appointment. I was surprised: the whole experience was pleasant and relaxing. The therapist was friendly and very experienced at making people feel comfortable. The hour flew by. After the treatment I spent a little time in their waiting room sipping herbal tea (felt like I was in the tropics) and picked up a flyer on a new therapy called the Metatron. I have a chronic circulation issue that's caused me to be on medication for several years and I've been looking for a more holistic approach to understanding the underlying cause. This afternoon I went in for my first Metatron appointment and was utterly amazed. The system scans your body and gives information about biological imbalances. It immediately picked up on the precise location of my circulatory problem and pinpointed specific pathogens that were contributing to the condition. In short, it confirmed a lot of what I already knew from medical testing, but in addition gave me information on the root causes so that I can treat them. I've had 2 great experiences so far. I wouldn't recommend the place if you can't do stairs (there's no elevator and the stairs are steep) or if you're looking for a high-end luxurious place. I booked an appointment for oxygen steam bath two weeks in advance and came from Brooklyn on the designated date/time. The receptionist informed me that "actually we do not do this treatment on Tuesdays because the owner is not here on this day. You can rebook for another time." The service is good, the people at La Casa make you feel at home and comfortable. I had the Body Polish and it was not up to my expectations. I thought the sea salt rub would be done to brush off the dead skin but all I got was the person applying the sea salt rub as if it were a lotion instead of a rub. I wanted her to really apply pressure to the rub on my skin. The actual spa is due for a make over- the plants by the window were dead and dried up and there was dust in a lot of places. The colonics with Sharon Stone (don't you love that name?) are what keeps me coming back. Sure there may be other people giving colonics but she's the you want to make your appointment with. Believe me, because I travel a great deal for work, over the years, I've had plenty of colonics with others around the city, and abroad too. She's got the qualities you want in your colon hygienist, or whatever they call themselves. Sharon is a highly skilled professional; well educated & informed, experienced & gentle. She's also very kind. I love that she gets how important being on time is for me, because of my hectic schedule. I discovered her pretty soon after she started at La Casa, and I'm glad I did. wow. 1st: i received a gift cert in 2001. i lost it . i found it last week. la casa honored it w/o blinking twice. 2nd: very lovely ambiance. the nice guy at the desk is greg. the nice girl is claire. and the owner has a great sense of humor. i hope to experience many of the options at la casa, but i indulged in the floatation. i'm not sure what the previous reviewers meant by "clicking"... i was a big "sensory deprivation tank-er" in the '80's. at my session, i didnt hear anything except my own breathing & heartbeat, which is a perfect meditation. since most of us didnt pass the NASA astronaut training and/or cant afford the very special plane ride that simulates weightlessness ---- try floating. looking forward to my first colonic! read more

I can't recommend La Casa highly enough! I have been dealing with severe acne for nearly 10 years, and when I first came to La Casa I was feeling hopeless about ever ridding my skin of the cysts and breakouts I constantly had. I have tried Accutane, countless prescription creams, and antibiotics, all to no avail. Jane Goldberg recommended I try La Casa's blue light treatments, and it has significantly cleared my skin. Sitting under the blue light for 15 minutes on a weekly basis has almost completely eradicated my cystic acne and seriously reduced my breakouts. The treatment itself is totally non-invasive (so much better than harsh creams 2x a day, as I was previously doing) and relaxing given the setting (the spa feels like a real retreat from the city). La Casa is a very special place in this city. It has therapies that have made a profound difference on me in just a few sessions. The vitamin d "sun splash" is literally a savior in winter months. My favorite treatment however, is the biomat coupled with the light therapy facial. The biomat is really relaxing and regenerative, and the light therapy facial is EVERYTHING you could ask for in a face treatment. I had two 20 minute sessions in a row and woke up looking a YEAR younger. Literally, the grooves in my face that had resulted from a stressful few years were diminished by at least 50% percent. My face is also tighter. I was not expecting such quick results/collagen production. I've heard awesome things about the ozone machine also, can't wait to detox on it during my next visit. read more
