Today I went here to get lunch while on a trip for an event going on at the Civic Center. The service was phenomenal. My waitress did a great job. I got the charbroiled chicken it was good. Went on a Friday night ..there was a band on the patio ..inside was normal busy not exceptionally busy there were empty tables ..it took an 1.5 hours to get our food..drinks took easily 20 minutes to get between orders..the waiter said because there was a band the bar served the bar first and the restaurant was second. I asked if I could go get my own drink if it would be quicker and he actually said yeah you may want to do that. Food was cold and nasty. We all filled up on chips and salsa and went home ..absolutely the worst Mexican food experience ever. Won't be back ..and we are from out of town so definitely not a good first impression read more

Only good thing here is queso. Waitress got our whole tables order wrong. I ordered tacos with just beef and cheese and nothing else then ended up receiving a whole salad on my tacos. Someone at my table ordered the 3 quesadillas and only received 1. Then when she told the waitress she proceeded to try and gaslight my friend into thinking she only ordered one. Went for afternoon lunch. Arrived at 2 pm. Sign said ring bell for service. " Greeter" met us at the podium with broom and dustpan in hand, and we stated table for 2. Got seated immediately in a wing devoid of patrons. No one came to greet or offer service. Employees were walking about,seemingly cleaning for PM. shift (?). After 10 minutes we walked out. I've noticed a decline in the portion sizes over the last few months, and while I was visiting for lunch one day last week I was charges $3 fee because I ordered a 1/2 & 1/2 order of nachos. This was one of my favorite lunches, but I now have a bad taste in my mouth (yes the pun was intended). Don't charge me extra fees if no additional ingredients were added. I sent an email to the manger and received no response. This is no way to grow or run a business. I'm afraid I will not be visiting any longer. First of all, When I walked in the hostess looked at me like she didn't want me walking in the restaurant, felt VERY unwelcome. Second, they serve hot boiling salsa that is so unpleasant and scorching, then we asked for cold salsa and it tasted even worse than the hot salsa. Third of all, the basket for the chips is way too small to fit the chips to where they were overflowing. If you're wondering what Campell's would put out as a chunky southwest tomato soup, that would be their salsa. Chips taste like microwaved Tostitos. Rice was bland. Our experience at this restaurant was genuinely disappointing. First of all, queso blanco wasn't on the menu, which is typically a common item at a Mexican restaurant. The Chile con queso appeared gelatinous and might as well come from a jar purchased at Walmart. Secondly, the "salsa" tasted more like zesty tomato soup with canned tomatoes and rotel. Talk about lack of authenticity. Thirdly, the margaritas were weak and served in an Irish coffee glass. Fourthly, the cochinita pibil street taco was similar in appearance to dog food on a room temp tortilla with lack of taste. My husband and I ordered 2 beef taco dinners and nachos. The server delivered the food then disappeared for a long time. My food was wrong, they gave me chicken tacos which I would have eaten had it tasted even remotely good. By the time the waiter resurfaced my husband was done with his food and I wasn't feeling like ordering anything else. The nachos tasted watered down and flavorless. WOW...just WOW!!!! No, not a good wow but more like a disappointed wow! This place is something else I tell ya!!! So, my wife, our two neighbors, and my stepson all wanted Mexican so we headed here. None of us have tried this place yet and always went to El Paso because it was what we knew and was always amazing! This place, now that's a different story! First off the salsa is freaking HOT STEWED TOMATOES with no spice or flavor!!! My neighbor's wife ordered the Deluxe Nachos and when they came out they were an actual 6 Tostitos Rounds with a little meat on top and some cheese sprinkled in top!! I mean seriously! So, she ordered the "sad" burrito, and boy was it sad!! Lol! Then myself and my wife got the burritos, the supremo and the burrito ranchero, both were pretty bland and not much flavor with barely any cheese on or even inside the burrito. If you're ordering the burritos make sure to order the large burrito, because the small is basically made with a soft taco. My neighbors husband got the quesadilla and that probably looked like the best meal to get here, butttt when he bit in to it, of course NO FLAVOR!! I'm sorry but if anyone sees this place as an authentic Mexican or Latin cuisine restaurant, you are hugely mistaken and should please go down to El Paso or even Taco Bell right around the corner!!! Disclaimer: The stars are only a reflection of my experience in the lounge area, not the restaurant as a whole. Why? I'll tell ya... Hubby and I have been to La Casa a couple of times now. There are usually quite a few cars parked out front, which seem to mostly belong to staff or lounge patrons. Every time I peek into the restaurant, it is dead dead dead. We actually walked in at the restaurant entrance once and after waiting a considerable amount of time, debated hunting down a hostess to seat us. When she finally arrived, we were seated directly next to the only other party. As the restaurant was otherwise empty, the situation felt awkward because the conversation at the other table echoed very loudly. Deciding we were too uncomfortable (it was also pretty chilly- I don't like being cold), we headed over to our trusty lounge hangout. I have no interest in the restaurant portion of this establishment. Now- as for the lounge. I enjoy it. Of course, there's the bar. They also have several tables that are well spaced apart so it doesn't feel cramped. My favorite spot is at the sofas and coffee table where I can kick back and cozy up with my margarita. There is also an outdoor patio, which is okay, but definitely needs some love. There are plenty of tables and chairs which could be better (they're the iron kind that leave marks on your thighs if you're wearing shorts/skirt), a fountain that I'm not sure if they turn on, some string lights with about 20% of them burnt out, and some nice foliage (though they could use a bit more). There are speakers that were playing the ball game that was on at the time, but when it was over, the music inside was not shared with us outside, so we were left with street noise. The parking lot lights from surrounding businesses kind of kill the mood also. Hubby and I have enjoyed having conversations out there, but it was not a popular place to be. The margaritas are always good. Not the best I have ever had, but definitely on my short list. Be careful though, they are pretty strong. Their virgin drinks are pretty legit also. We have had quite a few different appetizers on the menu, all of which have been satisfactory. A server once recommended the flautitas, encouraging us to get the steak because she often finds the chicken to be on the dry side (and I do agree with her). The flautitas offer a choice of flour or corn tortillas, I couldn't choose so the server offered to do some of each. Yay!! I love flexibility. I preferred the corn, as the flour was a little too delicate and flaky... I think they must have fried some shrimp prior as there was a hint of something seafoody, but it wasn't terribly offensive. I do want to give a nod to the tequila peppers on the apps menu. I am usually not a huge fan of jalepeno poppers, but these are made with cream cheese and I love them. We showed up for happy hour once. I don't know the specials-which they have recently posted a sign apologizing for the inconvenience changing or the hours. The did have a pretty legit salsa bar. And there was live music by a very smooth-voiced musician. He was not introduced and I don't know his name, but I really really really liked him. Overall, I'm not a fan of the restaurant, really have no comment on the entrees, but I would definitely suggest giving the lounge a go for some drinks and apps- hence the 4 stars for the lounge. read more

The service was ok but the restaurant looked like it was built in the '80s and never updated. The fact that the waitresses drive the food out on big plastic carts, reinforced that '80s feel. The main problem was the food. I stopped going to La Casa many years ago due to the quality of food, but I thought things may have changed and it was time to give them another shot. The most accurate description I can give, is that the food taste like a frozen TV dinner bought from the dollar store. Everything is really bland and made with super cheap ingredients. The salsa taste like spaghetti sauce. Sounds weird? I know, but everyone at the table said it taste like a jar of pasta sauce. My corn tortillas were not warm and pliable, the rice was hard and the enchiladas had barely any filling. Also, if the table finishes the complimentary chips and salsa, they'll charge you for more. If you want better Tex-mex/Mexican do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. read more

I LOVE La Casa and have for years. It may not be the most authentic place in town but it is what I like. I also agree with other posters that it isn't the most cost effective place but it is a treat. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it is noisy. Something about the building (the old one wasn't like that) makes it hard to concentrate on your table. I could hear the table across the room perfectly but had trouble hearing the people at my table. Also, don't make the mistake of going on the night that "Kung-Fu Panda" is there. (Why is there a Kung-Fu Panda" at a Mexican restaurant is confusing to me. I get that it was kid's night, or whatever, but dear Mr. Panda...please don't walk up to a table with only adults at it and tap them on the shoulder while they're eating and stand there waiting for a response from them while they are mid bite. Nice and clean building but not well decorated, the tables and booths were utilitarian and it is very noisy. The chips tasted like they were from a bag and very plain as was most of the food. The salsa that came with the chips was good with chunks of tomato but a little watery. We got sides of beans and guacamole as an appetizer. Both were very plain. For the main course we had chicken fajitas. The dominant flavor was burnt. The fajitas came with a small side of pico de gallo, beans and guacamole. The tortillas were warmed but under cooked like a store tortilla. All portions except the guacamole appetizer were good size. I will say the food on the plates was good looking. read more

This is the worst food in town. I went last night and my food was horrible. There was no salt. My huevos rancheros wasn't cooked. The sauce was so garlicky it was inedible. My tortillas were cold and hard. The sopapillas were cold and served on an iced plate and the 7 layer chocolate cake was not 7 layers and didn't have much flavor. The only thing good about the place is the staff are nice and service is good . It stops there,as the noise is so loud I couldn't hear the person seated next to me. A friend and I have been coming to thibodaux for about a month for work. We had ate at another Mexican restaurant in town and was very pleased. We had noticed la cash del sol and had been wanting to give it a try. Well much to our demise, we finally did. This was absolutely the most inedible food I have ever tried to eat. The queso dip was horrible. The salsa was poured from a can as well as the chicken. We gave a valiant effort in attempting to eat this but just couldn't do it. The manager acted stunned that we were not happy with our meal and gave only a slight apology. He claimed that that was the first complaint that he had received. If that is the case then that is the only Mexican restaurant that his customers have ever had. It is the furthest thing from authentic Mexican. I could have went to Walmart and bought old El Paso taco kits and it would have been much better than that.
