This mini city area, just to the north of Old San Juan and outside of the once walled city is an…read moreinteresting taste of what Puerto Rico is perceived in the main United States by many people. Colorful cement houses with some only partially built or partially remaining after previous hurricane damage. It's an interesting contrast to the beautiful historic buildings of Old San Juan that it bumps up against with a several hundred year old wall separating them. There are a few bars along the main road thru La Perla, but it's not very safe for tourists as night. It would be much wiser to go to the bars in Old San Juan only a block or two away.

We grabbed a taxi van and he ended up serving as a tour guide to us, which he was happy to do. He took us to a few different places with pleasure. At the last stop he had picked up his son and drove us around with no problem. I really loved he was so personable. In Vieques you see horses all around, which was so beautiful; we really enjoyed that. We went to two beaches. We loved the second one, which was Playa Caracas. The sand was so white, and soft. The water waves were calm and warm. We had so much fun and made some friends while in the water. We ended up trading up drinks. The road is way better now, many golf cars would be able to go there if isn't raining. The Vieques National Fish and Wildlife is open from Monday to Friday from 3 PM to 6:30 PM. Other attractions you might like to visit is Ceiba Tree, Mosquito Pier, Light houses, Los Chivos street View, you get to see both side the north and the south of the island from the middle of the island. Fuerte Conde de Mirasol (fort) is currently closed (waiting to get fix since H.María...) The Isabel Segunda, the main town usually is busy during the weekdays. Please, use the mask if you will be close to people, beaches are open for recreational use but the government is enforcing not to drink alcohol on the beach. I visited the castle, explored different historic spots like El Morro,ate @ a couple of popular restaurants,went shopping,& saw so much art throughout the city. Not to mention the gorg ocean views!There were photo ops everywhere I turned which made it even more enjoyable just walking around & taking everything in. It's such a beautiful place w/ so much character & history. The colors, the architecture,& the overall vibe really made it feel special & memorable!

Located across the street from the Cathedral of San Juan Puerto Rico, the plaza is dedicated to Felisa Rincon De Gautier, known also as Dona Fela. She served as Mayor of San Juan from 1947 to 1969, which makes her the 1st elected woman of a capital city in the Americas Territory.

The park could be maintained a bit better and experiences more than average traffic. The landscaping was lacking and the walkways were very dirty. The park is named after Felisa Rincón De Gautier, San Juan's first woman mayor. the park has a couple of decent sculptures but just like the plaza, there best days are behind them. The sculptures are the work of Jorge Zeno. The three whimsical works are penguins in a boat, a cat/giraffe, and a rooster. This is a decent place to take a load of on your way to our from the Cathedral, but is definitely not a destination spot. I recommend making a stop here part of a larger itinerary. I just happend to stumble across it on my way to the cathedral.

well, this is not something must do when you are in Puerto Rico, but hey, there are some photos…read morefrom the trip which shout "Yeah I am in Puerto Rico" and this spot is one of them. there are 2 big giant chairs colored in Puerto Rico flags, which is perfect for photography, having Pinones beach and perfect palm trees in the background. this is not a public spot, this is property of Mar-Bella beach club- but they are okay if you go there and click some pics. Some more info about this spot/Place- this spot is on Route 187 between Isla Verde and the Rio Grande. means - if you are planning to Visit Playa Flamenco (which is a Must do- cause it is one of the top beaches in the world) and if you are coming back to San Juan to catch a flight then I would suggest taking this route 187. a couple of reasons for this- 1) Pinones area which is famous for its street/roadside small/decent food joint - you don't wanna miss if you are a foodie 2) Scenic Route 3) You wanna save money on toll skipping Route-66 (no sense paying rental company for its transponder and $10/day)
