While on business trip in Monterrey Mexico, enjoyed this local San Pedro favorite for late dinner (9:30pm, but apparently this isn't "late" in Mexico).
The cuisine here is more like that found in a high end NYC noveau-Mexican eatery, definitely not everyday fare.
We kept our order simple with the braised octopus, beet carpaccio and chiles en nogada (poblano chiles in white sauce with walnuts and pomegranate seeds). The highlight of the evening was the totoaba, one of the most expensive fish in the world and indigenous to Mexico. Wikipedia says, "The dried totoaba swim bladders are so valuable that they are referred to as the "cocaine of the sea", with prices of up to $46,000 per kg on the Chinese black market."
Restaurant wasn't full and the regional economy did not feel vibrant. First trip to Mexico since January 2020, glad that quality has survived the pandemic. Looking forward to coming back when conditions normalize. read more
