Most folks inside for a drizzly day.
    Robert M.

Pretty standard French cafe. Plenty of seating outside, but it was a blustery day in April with some light rain occasionally, so we joined everyone else inside. Pretty tight per Paris standards, but plenty of elbow room from our seat. Had a glass of house white that was pretty good. Started off with a shared soup a l'oignon (onion soup). It was just great! Also added a club de poulet which turned out to be too much food between the two. The club came with some waffle cut fries/potatoes that were tasty but unobtrusive. The club was good, but the pickeled veggies took some getting used to as well. The waiter was good, the bathroom did the deed (upstairs) and we enjoyed the warm stay in the rain.

Yes! Go here. Eat this. Busy place but service was very good. Onion soup to start with a croque and a 1/2 bottle of red!

La Comète was very conveniently located just across the street from the hotel we stayed at. We had a lovely breakfast here! My husband isn't a big breakfast person, so he opted for the smaller option and enjoyed his hot chocolate, orange juice, and croissant. I selected the croque madame, which came with a side salad with a balsamic drizzle. The salad was light, fresh, and served as a great balance to the deliciously cheesy sandwich. Service was quick and friendly, and our outdoor seating was just in a spot of sunlight to warm us up in the brisk morning temperature. I would definitely recommend La Comète!

So... I just don't understand all the terrific reviews that La Comète receives. This review is based on only one visit... it was really busy and I suppose every restaurant has bad days now and then, so maybe that's all it was. BUT the croque madame was not very good. The bread was too hard (maybe even stale)... and it just did not have much flavor. We also ordered the flat iron steak with frites. The frites were tasty, but the steak was undercooked (we ordered it medium well and it came out medium rare)... and just not good. I know everything is done a little differently in Europe than in America, but this was at the tail end of our trip where we experienced some spectacular meals and some average ones... so my expectations were realistic. Unfortunately, La Comète disappointed us. **TWO STARS**

I came to La Comete twice when I was in Paris because it was super affordable and their escargot is amazing. If you come during their lunch hours (I believe this is 12:00-17:00), you basically get their escargot for free! At 15 euros, you can either get an appetizer+main plate OR main plate+dessert. Both times, I got their 6 piece escargot appetizer. It's so delicious and I recommend you try it. The garlic herb butter is phenomenal and the complimentary bread soaks it right up after you devour the escargots. For the main plates, I'd suggest the duck confit. However, this may be a hit or miss for you. The first time I got their duck confit, it was perfectly crispy and flavorful. However, my boyfriend got the duck confit during our second visit and the skin wasn't as crispy and it was greasy. I also tried their lamb with ratatouille and the steak with mashed potatoes. Both were really good so you can't go wrong. The service here is wonderful. They had the English menu available and also took our order in English. The restaurant itself is one of the bigger restaurants in Paris, but the tables and chairs are quite small. To get in, you may have to move the table out. For payment, I had to go up to the bar and it was uncomfortable because of servers coming out of the kitchen constantly. However, I'd deal with these nuisances for a fix of their escargot any day.

A very different way of making onion soup

Hit or miss at La Comete, the first time I went it was great but the second time I went, it was terrible. This little restaurant was only a 5 minute walk from my Best Western hotel and it is on a street popping with restaurants and bars. I stumbled on it through Yelp and decided to give it a try on my first night in Paris. Every night I went, it was packed. Even at two different times 7 pm and 9 pm. The servers are flying around and definitely don't expect them to come check on you often. You may wait a bit before they even take your order. I had the onion soup on two different occasions and the first time it was piping hot which was great. The second time it was room temperature which was gross. The cheese didn't even fully melt. Their way of making onion soup is not the typical Americanized way where them bake the whole bown and the cheese is Crusted on. This restaurant makes the soup then just throws in the bread and sprinkles the cheese on top before serving. Not my favorite. The duck confit on the first night was dry and over roasted. The second night it was nice and tender with crispy skin. The bed of roasted potatoes was delicious on both tries. The escargot was pretty good. Not as big as I've had it at other French restaurants but the sauce was tasty.

Comfy, cozy spot for eaither a quick drink, coffee or dinner. I had the thick steak meal. The steak was tender and the potatoes were creamy. Great service and a must try while in Paris.

Best Fish & Chips I've ever had. So fresh & Frispy. Cesar salad is also good. No wonder so many people look like regular customers, not only tourists. Im

I was a bit unsure when we first got to La Comète, as we were hoping to be seated outside but the manager was a bit unfriendly and told us we could not. The table we were seated at was very close to other tables and the area was a bit hot. On top of this the place was doing a great business and we were worried it was going to take awhile to order and get our food... BUT instead we had an amazing meal and the wait staff even though a little short staffed, was quick, helpful, and kind! We got the Duck Confit--really awesome and we thought the portion was a great size, the 6 Snails (escargot) which were very garlicky in a good way (they also bring out bread and snail utensils that make the experience better/ easier), and the Salmon and Fried Goat Cheese Salad--really yummy and would totally be satisfying if that was the only dish I got. They also had great drinks, I got wine but people I was with got the Pina Colada and Moscow Mule and both were good. Pricing was great--for all of this (and some drinks were on happy hour discounts) the total was 56 euro! Would recommend!!

Love this place. The atmosphere is relaxing, chill and makes me feel comfortable, the service is great. The prices are affordable, and most importantly the food is really good. My wife ordered the thick steak with potatoes and I have never seen her put away potatoes this fast! I got the bacon cheeseburger with fries and love the crispiness of the fries and the flavor of the burger. The drinks are also flavorful. The rose I had ( IGP Mèditerranèe) was smooth! Had to get two glasses. My wife got the Bordeaux Supèrier and said it was very appealing to the tongue. We will definitely return tomorrow morning for more. So far our #1 spot on our Paris vacation. Hard to top this.

    Salmon! Delicious

Luca was my server and he was very welcoming in hospitable to this weary traveler. I sat on the patio towards the end of the row so I could take in the atmosphere and people watch a bit. Luca Recommended a meal with a mashed potatoes and sausage with French bread and salad and it sounded tasty so I gave it a go! All the flavors went well together; mashed potatoes were well seasoned the sausage had a good flavor, and the salad with the vinaigrette added a crunch in an extra flavor as well. I drank a French hard cider while I gobbled up my meal, which also was new for me and tasted great after I was done my meal. Luke brought me a shot with rum and some other ingredients, including lemon that definitely hit the spot after a good meal.I recommend Brasserie Belanger for anyone near GDN Train Station that enjoys great food and patio dining. The restaurant itself isn't small, but really not big, so it's definitely worthwhile to make a reservation at least a week or so on advance, otherwise you're pushing your luck. Everyone ordered steak frites (2 rump steak, 2 flank) and no one was disappointed. Steaks were cooked to order, although medium here in France is more like medium rare in the States, just be advised. The restaurant itself is lively and fun with lots of chatting, laughing and good times being shared. Desserts were Crème Brûlée and Apple Crumble, neither of which were disappointing. We definitely enjoyed our dinner and would likely return again. This time with a reservation made well in advance.

Throughout our trip from Provence, Basque Country and Paris, I joked that they must hate me for ordering my beef med b/c it was so much tougher compared to our beef. Anyway, it's just different. We ate too much. It's a lot of food to split the cote de boeuf btn two. Comes with very good chubby fries and 3 sauces. TBH, I didn't love the sauces. Making a reservation isn't hard but you do need to email them and there's no online booking system. You also have to confirm again 1-2 days before. I understand they are small with a limited number of tables so that's fair and it seemed like everyone showed up even though they don't require a deposit. On a Friday night, it didn't appear there was much chance or walking in although there were like 2 open seats at what would have been a shared table. The menu is small and includes some typical French starters, steaks, 3 non steak entrees, cheeses, and dessert. All steaks come with potatoes, 3 sauces, salad. Service was a highlight. The waiter was personable and funny, had solid recommendations, and made sure leftovers were taken home. Also had a solid wine recommendation after asking some questions. They probably get a lot of people who don't speak French and they had no problem speaking English. The food- ordered a ribeye medium rare. The steak was so so charred on the outside and it almost ruined the whole thing. I really wish they would have charred it way less especially when it was ordered medium rare. There is seared and then there is burnt; this was sadly the latter. The steak itself was fine, honestly nowhere near the best meat I have had but the price is quite reasonable for how much you get. I would say the steak was maybe 6/10 for me, largely due to the cooking. The fries were phenomenal. Definitely a highlight and really tasty and with a great texture. Salad was good, pretty typical. I wanted to like the sauces more but found them just okay. The best by far for me was the blue cheese sauce but even this one I thought the flavors could have popped a little more. Atmosphere was fun, there were a few bigger groups (6-8 which is the biggest they accommodate) but it never got unreasonably loud. Overall I wanted to love it but was a bit disappointed even though the service and fries were both great.

We were so looking forward to the frog legs, onion soup and other delicacies pictured. We got there and the sign was just as it was with the same name -- Au Pied du Sacre Coeur. We should've noticed something was wrong when no one was inside. When the waiter (lone person working along with cook) gave us the menu, my wife and I stared at each other completely confused. The menu looked nothing like the ones on this website and featured Italian food items, like spaghetti, arroz con pollo or mozarella. I asked him about frog legs or the onion soup. He looked confused and just said no. Out of respect for him, we just ordered the charcuterie, which featured stale bread and a few slices of meat taken from my local grocery store in the U.S. Also -- they claimed to not accept any international credit cards.
