Where to go in an unfamiliar town? Our hosts in Beziers suggested we take the train into Sete for…read morethe day. It was only a half our ride and Sete is considered the Venice of France since there are canals that connect the island to the mainland.
As we wandered around, the food smells from many of the cafes begin to take their toll. We kept walking around and then began to get a little cranky. As we heading back to where we started, we spotted Le Tabary's. Their lunch formule looked reasonable, so we went in and grabbed a table on their patio. This gave us a nice view of the canal.
I saw a couple devouring what looked like pasta, and in my limited French, asked if that was the special. Our kind waitress nodded her head and I said, "Je n'ai que s'il vous plaît." It turned out to be penne pasta with a meat marinara and Italian sausage. The partner ordered the basil pesto with chicken. Both dishes were very good! No wine this time, a beer and mineral water. Espresso to end our meal and we were ready to walk around some more.
The location is great to people watch, especially if you had a table near the street. But you do have a sense of being in Italy since it's on the canal. Even though I'm writing this review almost a month after our visit, I can still remember that delicious pasta dish! I recommend a day trip to Sete, and if you are hungry, stop by La Tabary's.
