THIS IS NOT A QUIET LIBRARY. I've been holding off on writing this for a long time because I genuinely couldn't believe how consistently frustrating the experience has been. I come here often and stay for hours at a time to study. I'm not popping in briefly. I'm here working, focusing, and trying to use the space the way a library is traditionally meant to be used. I understand this is a public space funded by taxpayers and open to everyone. I respect that. But libraries also have rules for a reason, and here they are rarely enforced. That's the real issue. The open concept design might look modern, but it completely eliminates any sense of quiet. You can hear every front desk interaction across the floor. Phone calls, loud conversations, audio playing from devices, and people speaking at full volume are constant. Some librarians genuinely try to maintain order and I truly appreciate them. But others make no effort at all. Over time you start to recognize who will step in and who won't. I've had to get up and specifically find the staff members who will address disruptions. I should not have to do that. There is no dedicated quiet section. None. That alone is shocking. If you are looking for a peaceful study environment, this is not it. It feels more like a social space than a library. Food policies are inconsistently handled. I originally thought eating was allowed because everyone does it here, only to later learn at another county branch that food is not permitted. The rules technically apply here too, they're just not enforced. The same goes for phone use and strong odors, both of which are clearly addressed in library policies but frequently ignored in practice. The men's restroom also has a persistent odor issue. What makes this even more disappointing is that I've visited the Diamond Bar branch, which operates under the same county system, and the difference is night and day. The rules are upheld consistently and respectfully there. It's calm. You can study for hours without constant interruptions. That experience makes it clear that the issue here is not the public, but the lack of consistent enforcement and management. To be fair, there are positives. There are plenty of tables and outlets. The children's section is well designed and engaging. They offer programs for kids and adults, including community classes. The book sales are fantastic and affordable. And again, some librarians are helpful and professional. But the core function of a library should be to provide a space where people can read, study, and focus. When you cannot go more than 20 to 30 minutes without loud disruptions, that is a management problem. I'm not expecting perfection. Public spaces will never be silent. But basic rule enforcement is not too much to ask. If you want a quiet place to work, I strongly recommend going to the Diamond Bar location instead. The difference is immediate. It's disappointing that the library in my own city could be so much better with relatively simple changes. Consistency would fix most of this. read more

Clean, organized, open space. We came here to check out the friends of the library sale, we came an hour late, but it looked like they didn't have much to begin with. Checked the YA section and my niece was disappointed with the selection, I mostly accredit that to her frequent Barnes and Noble trips. Checked out the children's area as well, spacious, lots of places to sit. My niece said she was bored lol she really liked Huntington Beach library because they have play areas. I tried to explain to her it's all about funding. Looks like a decent place to come and work or study. Lots of tables and areas to tuck in. Didn't really take a look at the selection but the shelves look a little bare. read more

I have been in West Covina for the past 2 1/2 but had not made it to the library. This is a nice place for kids to get a library experience. It's two stories. The children's section is upstairs (they have elevators). They have an open area with kids toys and a kitchen set. A few tables for the kids to do homework. They also rent out study rooms for individuals or groups. The room rentals are increments of 30 minutes for a maximum time of 2 hours. Great place to hang out if you need to get work done. read more

Well organized, clean, spacious library. 2nd floor dedicated for children with computer stations with headphones. Help service available for helping the children to locate material for their work/ project. Some classes offered for children/ adults. Go to circulation desk to fill up form for library card. Each child can have their own. Up to 50 items can be borrowed (books/ DVD), free of charge. Some items for 7, some for more days. When you return it late, it will be 30 cents per item per day for adult, and 15 cents per item per day for each kid. Very nice library to do work in and keep nice and cool. They have some tables with outlets and usb ports for charging so it's great if you need to study for a while. Not all the tables have them so it might be hit or miss depending on how crowded it is. You need to be buzzed into the restroom so theyre mostly clean. I like the West Covina library better than the Covina location. Because they are bigger with more books and resources. Computers are all available here near the Human Resources in City Hall and near the police station as well. They sell old magazines too for cheap prices. Great staff good library to always visit. read more

This large library has a great children's section, complete with its own area and play area. Last time I went, there was even a fish tank on the librarian's desk! The staff was nice and allowed the kids to just be kids- loud! Ample parking, location is right off the freeway. read more

I absolutely love doing my work at coffee shops, but I don't have the luxury of buying a cup of coffee 6 days out of the week. I started looking for a new place to do my work and all I need is: fast internet (upload and download), quietness, and a plug to charge my laptop. The West Covina Library has that and much more! It's a huge plus to have books all around you, to get inspiration from, to take a break with, and to stay focused. Free Wifi and the best part of it all?-- it's slower than dial-up. SCORE! (#fail) The speed makes me want to slice my wrists. Only nice thing is that there are cubicles to study. There are outlets along the top of the desks so your nerd devices don't lose juice. The only upside to the slow internet is that it kept me from distracting me from my studies (lol) such wandering onto facebook or yelp of course. Library in general has friendly staff, much friendlier than La Puente (Sunkist) staff, that's for sure. Maybe because there are lots of smiling youngsters running the place. Book selection is great and it's always clean. After 3pm though you might want to run away because parents think libraries are day care centers where children can rage as if it's Chucky cheese ----TooOoodles. read more

Great library. One of the best ones I've been too. Place is huge and 2 stories. The 2nd story is mainly used for kids which children's books and a bathroom only for little kids which I've never seen before. lol. This library seems to cater really well to children. I came here on a Tuesday around 11am. There was a lady singing songs to a group of children. It was nice to see. They have a wide variety of books. read more

This place has the best dedicated kid zone. Toddler section - has a huge tree house, three different kitchen toys, a puppet house, and a grocery section. Even has a two kiddy computer stations. Baby section - enclosed section for babies under one. Lots of baby appropriate clean toys. Older kids - has a coloring station/homework station. Books seem to be updated? Not sure as my kids aren't in that stage yet. Librarian - the lady who does storytime is awesome. She is sweet, educated and has experience running the program. It has a mixture of singing, hand motions and reading. Great way to keep kids interactive and paying attention. Decor - clean. I would rate the rest of the library a 2 as its outdated and needs help. read more

This library sucks, there's no life to it, dull, boring no color. Everything is so outdated and the WiFi does not work I've come here three times and everytime I cannot use my laptop or phone when connected to there so called WiFi. I came here to do some work for an online course I am taking. My main reason for coming was to avoid distractions that I usually have at home. I was unlucky because it was so loud I could not focus. I had to ask for a study room which had a 2 hour time limit. It was a tiny little room but was much quieter. I was very upset to see that no one was using an inside voice or even attempting to be quiet in a library! There was no one, including the staff that was using an inside voice or whispering. I will not be coming here again to try to focus because now I know it is not worth it. To speak on the staff, they were very polite and helpful. The staff that I talked to while being there were happy and glad to help. I do not think that this library would be bad at all if they enforced the quiet rule! I do not see why they would allow it to be so loud in a library. read more

I love this library. It's wonderful that I can bring the kids to do their work and the baby (she's 3) can play in the play area and I can do work there too. I come to the library just about every day. I love it. There is one suggestion: Put adult sized tables and chairs in the kids room. It would make it easier for parents who need to watch their smaller kids but still want to utilize the library's vast resources. I'm at the library right at this moment and I'm on the floor, in the back of the kids area, on the floor with my full keyboard/ laptop/ reading resources and notebooks, trying to work, under a stack of books. I am self-employed. I also don't have family around, so it's not like I can just have someone watch her. I asked a staffer if we can move a table and a couple chairs into the kids room for the adults and she cut me off and looked at me like I was nuts, saying, "We can't move furniture!" Like I was completely absurd. I heard the same woman 'scold' a parent for sitting away from her kids in the playroom, in a normal chair at a normal table, trying to do her work and in eye-shot of her kid. And she said to the parent, "That's why we have regular chairs in there." Seriously. The adult chairs are seated at these tiny. toddler tables. I can understand the necessity for parental supervision. I can understand that parents want to use the brilliance that is the Library and what it offers. Can't we just move a couple tables or rearrange the furniture a bit to make it easier for parents to research and work while watching their kids responsibly? I would be more than willing to volunteer my time to help make this change possible. Big chairs at tiny tables isn't awesome and in no way a real solution. Sorry so long a review. I love the Library and take part in the vast amount of programs and events that the Library offers. I just thought if this one change was made, then we would have an actual perfect place on earth. :) read more

I've lived in the area for quite a few years and this year was the first time I stepped foot into the West Covina Public Library. I used to only go to Walnut and Rowland Heights libraries so it never occurred to me to come here. Well, this local library turned out to be very convenient for me. I'd usually go on their website to reserve what I need/want and they would email me when my items were ready for pick up. The location is pretty close to the 10 freeway so I'd ran in, pick up my stuff and leave. I've not spent a lot of time inside the library, since there isn't anything too special about it. It is true that the place gets loud at time and the librarians don't care to shut people up. However, when my cell phone rang once, the lady whom was shelfing books gave me a dirty look and scolded me for talking on my cell. Mean lady. One thing I really like about this library is that you can reserve all the DVDs you want, up to 50 items. I like! I did not realize how many older movies I missed! The DVD titles here are pretty decent. You can also reserve materials from within the County of Los Angeles Library System and pick them up here. You can renew books 3 times, given that no one else places holds on them. For magazines, you can only renew 1 time. For DVDs, you can also renew up to 3 times (amazing!), but each time is for 7 days (that's pretty good, for free movies!) so you can potentially hold on to a DVD for 21 days! So great! Overdue fines are 30 cents per day. I know, because I've managed to acquire a few past dues. Time passes quicker than I realize. =( Oh and a replacement library card will cost you 3 bucks. read more

I tend to avoid public libraries and opt for college libraries whenever possible. This day I didn't feel like driving the twenty minutes to the my Alma mater and instead ventured into the city library I so often frequented as a child. I don't remember public libraries ever being this loud or perhaps during some point in the past ten years, librarians stopped regulating on our LA county degenerates because people straight up yell in this place. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Setting: a group of rowdy 15 years olds : (giggles, whispers, talks, yells and all surrounding one 15 min limit communal computer) One of the girls must have been logged off and decided she needed more time so the following conversation ensued: Lady (in normal street voice): UMM excuse me are you getting back on the computer AGAIN? Did you JUST logg off and get BACK on AGAIN? is that what you did? teen girl: um yeah! thats because it logged me off and i ain't done yet.. Lady: thats because there's a 15 minutes limit! random man to girl: you just messed everything up teen girl: yeah well move on, move on.... stupid b*&%h f@^k, talkin *S*^t!Lady: LOOK! Friendly staff, and lots of space to study and read. I like that they have some computers for use in 1 hour or 15 minute increments, and will let you print up to 10 sheets free of charge. This nice little perk came in handy for me when my computer crapped out on me and I needed to print some documents. Don't forget they also have e-books available. This is great if you have a Kindle or any other device that will open up mobi or pdf files. I hope they expand the selection of books in the future. It would be great to put larger books in e-book format. One star knock down for the lack of noise control. One time I was there, and a guy picked up his phone and was talking all loud like he was in a club or something, and 10 mins later a crying brat comes from upstairs howling that he doesn't want to leave, and the mom wasn't even telling him to be quiet. What's with parents these days?!? The staff needs to keep these people in check and have signs with, "quiet area", or tell these rude ass people to take their hot mess outside. read more

I love it here! Convient to not only the Mall, but also to my gym, woohoo!!! Best of all, they have the private cubicles that you can bring your laptop to work on, and so it's very cool! :D Furthermore, you can also browse through the large DVD and CD collections that they have here, which is also nice, yay! One Star Off: This library is very spacious, and not extremely crowded, however, around 5PM, it starts getting very noisy, especially when some jerks talk very loudly on their phones, or don't even turn off their ringers after it keeps going on and on, or when parents bring in their young children that cannot control their volumes. And she even suggested some of the free services I could be utilizing with my library card. I appreciate knowledgeable workers like her because she is encouraging people to visit the library. Baby story time: apparently there is a space limit and you have to show up 10-20 minutes beforehand to grab a ticket, otherwise they run out and you can't attend. Would've been nice if they listed this info on the website/flyer before people just showed up and can't get in. It's hard enough having a baby who has sporadic nap schedules but having such inflexibility at the library is just terrible. read more

Not enough outlets, or study places aren't arranged to be placed over outlets. There's gum that are not cleaned away in every few study desks, and I'm not even talking about under the desks, but under the platform that protrude out from dividers of the desks where you generally place books on top that are to be read. Three stars are for the shady grass area and the general quietness of the library. read more

1. Very insufficient parking spaces on the "lobby level". There are some additional spaces "down hill" but there is no sign, e.g. "Additional parking -{arrow}", directing people there. 2. I did not experience much noise but there was a guy talking on the cell phone and no staff intervened. As to others complaints regarding noise, well, I am not surprised. County library staff is notorious in allowing, and even creating, noise in the libraries, based on my experience in other County libraries. read more

The staff is great and helpful. But this is by far the loudest library I have ever tried to study in. The tables with the charging station are siting really close the the front reception area and it is really busy in here. To add, I don't know what they were moving from the side room but the carts they were using made so much noise. It was not ideal for studying. I may have to think twice before coming back to this library. read more

For being free it's okay... the kids play area is nice although parents think they can just leave their kids here to annoy and harass other people. For example some stupid mom encouraged her OLD AND BIG DAUGHTERS to play in an area that's OBVIOUSLY for infant to toddlers area. Like really?!? Some parents are just dumb as bricks. And another grandfather just let his annoying and I'm pretty sure autistic grandson named Kai just wonder and harass and just all around make everyone uncomfortable because he DID NOT KNOW HOW TO BEHAVE!!! And his I think grandfather just sat in a chair and ignored it. If and when I go back I will be sure to tell the employees because they seemed really on top of annoying kids .... read more

LA County Library - West Covina Library - These girls were HUGE!!! I'm talking 5'5 and up!! And they were literally playing in the INFANT AREA! - Libraries Near Me - West Covina, California

I really do love this library! It is a two story library. The first floor is where you will find a vast collection of books, cds, and dvd's. The public is allowed to use 8 or 9 computer terminals for up to an hour at a time (you have to sign up). They have little cubicles throughout the first floor and study rooms for those who want to study. They have a magazine section with many up to date popular magazines like GQ, Black Belt, Popular Science, Weird, etc. They have many magazines for every category available to the public (I even saw "Lowrider"). The second floor is the children's section. They have up to 7 computer for kids to use for homework. They have a "homework help" section for kids who need a little help with their homework or just need an area to sit down and do homework. They have a very, very large play area for little kids to go and have fun. It is not a daycare center and only a neglectful parent would leave their young child unattended at the Public library (homeless and psychos are part of the public). The children's section has a very nice collection of picture books and various children's books. I cant wait for my son to be old enough to browse through the books. Customer service is really outstanding at this library! I have never had a problem other than having to pay a fine for being irresponsible and dropping off late books. The library aides are really nice and the librarians are very helpful. The childrens librarian is really nice. I have been to a couple of libraries in the public library system and this is by far the best one! read more

This is a pretty decent library. It's two stories. The kids area is upstairs - lots of books & a stocked play area with little play houses, a kitchen, fake groceries & other toys. There's a separate area blocked off for the little ones too. It's clean but frequented by kiddos all day long. It's rarely not busy. I like taking my 4 year old to socialize and play after he picks out his books for the week. As others have mentioned, the parking sucks but I can usually find something within a few minutes. People seem to move in and out of this place if you're a little patient. read more
