This library is not welcoming to toddlers. I read another review here about a mom having a bad experience during story time and I believe it because every time I come with my toddlers I have a negative experience. There's always a dirty look, a snarky comment or a tone that is unfriendly. I've also witnessed workers being rude to other mamas coming in with their children. My home library makes us feel so seen and welcome, they know us by name and always smile and greet everyone. I will no longer be attending this library too many negative experiences workers act like DMV employees. read more

I hardly go to this library. However, the parking lot is roomy, easy to drop off books at their outside book slot, and the library is clean with lots of tables and seats to use. read more

Nice library right next to the new city hall building. There seems to be a lot of recently updated features that includes a decorative water fountain and outdoor work out equipment at the park out front. I wouldn't recommend this park for small children as there isn't a playground and they could hurt themselves on the equipment. The library itself is clean and bright. The size is comparable to La Verne and Claremont libraries. The staff was friendly and the restrooms were clean. Plenty of street and library lot parking. read more

Terrible Friday Toddler story time librarian! The story time instructor/librarian hosting this story hour on July 12th. She was very rude and terrible to my daughter. She singled out my daughter for having too much fun during singing and ostracized her from the group because my daughter wanted to stand in the back and listen to the story. She would keep pausing the story, negative acknowledge my daughter ( whom was not being disrespectful or acting out of ordinary from normal toddler behavior) by stopping the story and staring while making rude comments. Telling my 2 yr old daughter to leave in front of everyone was absolutely ridiculous. Singling out a child sends the message to other children thats ok to ostracize someone. I could understand if my daughter was being rude or loud but she wasn't. she was being a normal wiggly toddler. I launched a complaint with the manager onsite, I was told by the manager, " oh yes thats the librarian, thats just her attitude". the manager sounded too intimated to speak to the story time instructor and her response is indicative of a pattern of rude behavior from the the story time instructor. These programs should promote inclusivity not negativity. I am disappointed in this program and would expect more from the resources provided by the city of San Dimas. The instructors at Claremont library are more professional and exhibit professionalism with all of there students. read more

I like this library for its close vicinity, big enough inventory and the fact it's easy to transfer books from one place to another. I DO agree the customer service is a hit or miss. One time I told them I returned a book but wasn't showing in the system, the librarian was nice enough to delete it from my account so I wouldn't be responsible for fees. I just called them about a book I couldn't find at home. Both ladies who answered sounded like they were scolding me and kept saying: you need to return the book. You checked it out 3/10 so it wasn't long ago. Well, with kids who put books everywhere, it doesn't matter when I checked it out! I didn't like to be scolded. They could have just said they don't have it in their system and to have me check again at home. I don't need to be reminded about when I need to turn it in and other minor issues. I never have any issues with the staff at Glendora Library. read more

Good library with a decent dvd collection; however, many of the children's movies/shows are scratched, so if you are checking any out for your kiddos, open the cover first and do a one-over for any major scratches. I like that this library is pretty quiet. When I think library quiet, well, San Dimas pretty much fits the bill. Another positive is the good selection of children's and young readers' books. I wish they had an influx of newer ones though....we'd love to get our hands on them. read more

The San dimas library has been remodeled and is very nice. They have many free classes all thanks to the friends of the library. They sell donated books at a very low cost, then all monies go back into the fun programs. Most are for children but some are for adults too. The staff there are super friendly and are eager to help out everyone. There is usually plenty of parking. Many handi camp spaces too. Easy drop off for books. I feel it is much quieter than the la verne library. read more

I go to walk in and I prevented from walking in the library. It should be my choice to use the library. Not the library to prevent people from using it. It's what my taxes pay for. If I have to keep working thru all this then it should be open. I walk up to the library and The stupidest thing ever to have a library closed. That's super smart to go the way of the schools here. Wasting people's time and killing education and public services. What a bunch of bull. Way to go to worthless democrats and waste of space gavin newsom. Nice library, good selection and you can order from any of the other LA county libraries (which is a huge system). About half of the staff is super friendly, and the other half is a normal amount of friendly, haha. They also have a lot of kids events and programs, the only complaint I have is that the woman who runs the storytime has a very annoying and loud voice. Not just a personal opinion; the kids seem to react negatively to her as well. read more

Okay Okay Okay... a lot of people are knocking the staff (and trust me, I have met some mean librarians in the LA County library system... and that is coming from a future librarian). BUT - I volunteer at this location and I will admit, some of the younger staff can be a tad standoffish (not to be confused with rude or mean, they are just very quiet). Here is something to try (anywhere, not just at the library) YOU smile at them and greet them. Say "Hello" or "Good Morning". SERIOUSLY! I do this every morning when I come in and ALWAYS get a smile. If I just walk by then they ignore me. But if I smile and say "Good Morning!" they will at least smile back if not greet back. I have seen plenty of our regular patrons do the same and get the same reaction. That being said - I LOVE this small library. Yes, it is small, and yes, it is old and could use some updates, but that is up to the county to ration out the $$$ to do so. And hey! Since when do we judge a book by it's cover! This library has some amazing services and programs and librarians that REALLY care about their patrons.If this library does not have the materials you need just check in with the librarian at the reference desk or go online and request it! The county will deliver it to the San Dimas Public Library within days (once it is available) and will save you the drive of going to a different location! Quiet, clean and yet fun. There is a designated computer table with an area to plug in your devices as well as a YA (teen) area with comfy chairs, and study tables. The children's area is a hit and the Children and YA librarians are amazing with the kids! Located in the heart of Downtown San Dimas this library is across from the Civic Park, Senior Center and the City Hall! Lots of events (especially in the summer) near by which makes this library awfully convenient to stop by. Free wifi (a tad slow, but efficient enough), free A/C (thank you San Dimas!) and 10 free pages a day from the printers! read more

I'm a frequent library go-er and have lived in a few cities here and there in Southern California. San Dimas library ranks one of the lowest on my list of best libraries and here's why: Customer service is a hit or miss. I usually get a very nice and enthusiastic employee at the customer service desk or I get one of the younger, rude gals who works the check-out registers. There's one particular person that baffles me every time I come in because she doesn't bother to smile or give a simple greeting- she seems like she'd rather be on any place in the world but working there. But anyway, this library for being in a well-to-do city needs to be updated. I've lived in low-income areas where the library must have received enough funds to provide the latest computers and the interior looked updated. The bathrooms in this library for example, look somewhat like you'd imagine to be in a prison- dark and plain. With cosmetics aside, they do offer a good range of books on most subjects, and if they don't have a particular book then it can be transferred from another library. The DVD selection is pretty grand for a small library and they offer new titles as well as older movies. San Dimas is a great city to live in, but their library needs some improvement here and there cosmetically as well as an evaluation of the current staff's customer service skills. I'd love to spend hours sitting in a plush chair, drinking hot chocolate out of a thermos, and browsing books, but it seems like Barnes and Noble is more comfortable than my own community's library which is a shame! read more

Regarding the story time: All the libraries in the area changed the rules. Now you do have to register before the start of the session for the toddler group. It does sign up quickly. It is frustrating that they don't just keep it open to whomever can make it. They did add a second class this session that should help. So if you don't preregister, then you're out of luck, that's just the rule not the teachers fault. Also, because the toddler class books so quickly ahead of time, they want to keep the baby class for, wait for it... babies! How insane is that? People who feel entitled to have rules change for them shock me Anyway, I love this library. They have a great play area for toddlers and they never bat an eye at my child playing for hours there. read more

I just moved to this beautuful small community and I am in love. I go to the libary to use the computors at least 3-4 times a month. Most of the reviews say the stuff is rude. From my experience not rude just quite. I always greet them and I get a smile or hello. I will say they don't go out their way but if u need help they are there to serve you. The parking is easy excess...computors are always available r short wait time...clean and can be quite at times. Over all I am please. read more

What a wonderful job the staff does for baby storytime class on Fridays( switching to Tuesdays). The staff is outstanding, caring and helpful to parents, grandparents and the children. I really love this library. Yes, it is small and probably needs to be renovated. Besides that, the staff is super friendly and helpful. Their DVDs selection is good and they allow you to check out as many s 8 DVDs at a time - not counting DVDs you request from the other LA county libraries. And best of all, it is all FREE. If they do not have the item you want, you can request it on the LA County libraries' website and within a few days, it will show up at your local library to pick up. It is also a great place to donate your extra magazines, books, DVDs, VHS and so on if you no longer want it. This helps raise money to the library and gives people the opportunity to buy or check out more items. I donated a bunch of CDs I no longer wanted and was happy to see a lot of them on the shelves available for people to check out. I have never actually studied here but it looks like there are quite a few work tables for people to use and study off of. It does not get overly-crowded here and stays pretty quiet. There's a Starbuck's down the street in case you wanted to go there first and come here after to study. There's always plenty of parking as well. read more

So I cannot knock this place too much because it is a county library and I can get pretty much any book I desire. However, the staff is pretty bad. There is like two people that I always hope I get that are nice but everyone else is really mean and rude. I love the renewal policy (renew up to three times!) and I like the check out period but the staff just sucks. I get it, libraries are not fun to work at but at least TRY. read more

Needs a better kids section. The librarians aren't very helpful and honestly a little rude. Nobody smiles or is very friendly. My three year was snipped at for playing with a stuffed animal - which is meant for children, to play with...so not sure why that wasn't allowed or why they are even there in the children's area. I wish they had more activities for children, and a friendlier staff. read more

Very nice environment. Tons of fantastic books organized in a decent way. Nice temperature and very quiet. Why then, did I only give this library two stars? Because of the absolutely HORRIBLE staff, or more particularly, the younger people working at the checkout desk. They are rude. They will completely ignore you sometimes. They'll insist you didn't return books you DID return. It's awful. It's the worst library just because of the service. So sad. read more

I like the library concept but once a librarian came over and shut the computer and I lost all of my work. The manager Nora was supposed to fix it, due next day but didn't. It was a scholarship and couldn't get it. read more

great friday morning storytime (starts at 10:30AM)! mostly appropriate for 2-4 year olds - librarian reads a few books, sings songs, recites rhymes, then there's a craft afterward. a good-sized children's area divided into two sections - one for the little kids with stuffed animals and lots of board books - and one for older kids with tables to do homework on. read more

A family friendly library with Children's area with Family Place. There is also a teen space and a Book Drop for returning items accessible 24 hours! It might be a little small compared to other public libraries, however it has a very nice rustic atmosphere when you walk inside. It's clean and suitable for any age. read more

This is a friendly library to go to. The people here are genuinely helpful. They will order you a book if they don't have it. There is a decent selection of books and DVDs. You can also find computers to use with Internet and you are allowed to print about 10 pages a day for free. The employees have been helpful and have helped my daughter find books and also helped me print something important even though it was close to them closing. read more

Good help, friendly faces, and loads of wonderful books. This is one of the better libraries I have been to. There are so many activities to help the community out, it feels good to donate. I have lived in san dimas for 36 years and the best thing about the city is the library. My kids took classes here and did homework here and my father was here many times a week before he passed away. He not only loved the books, but he loved the friendly faces and the staff that really took an interest in him. And he is not alone. We are so lucky to have a real hometown library with real caring people and I hope that the rest of the community can appreciate how lucky we are. I can't give enough stars... read more

I visited so many libraries. This library has the laziest librarians. Most of time they sit by information desk, answer a few people's questions. The rest of time , they do their own/ personal online browsing, gossip magazine reading, novel reading, gossip discussing. How come taxpayer pay them good money to sit there doing nothing most of their working hours?? This library has serious workload redistribution or overstaffing. Those librarians should be helping library doing something while they have nothing to do. Even though they are assigned to the information desk helper. It doesn't mean they can sit there doing nothing other than answering a few people's question. They have nothing to do during 50% of working hours. I never seen such thing in other libraries. Theses librarians just want to get paid but doesn't want to contribute too much. Other library has 3 programs per week just for preschoolers. This library has one for preschooler only . These lazy librarians should be assigned to develop more programs for diff. age groups or help front desk to check in & check out the books. I hope the newly hired manager will change this annoying situation & make those lazy librarians more productive in their work instead of just getting paid by sitting there & doing nothing! read more
