New place, and non-profit status in the City of Vernon, and it is wonderful to see bouts happening again. I typically eat before I go, but they have a concession area and beer! There was also a food truck. Dig on the fancy porta potties. I like that I can buy my tickets through Eventbrite and they even rent out seat cushions for the bleacher seating. The track is bigger than it was at the El Sereno place. It's fun to go as a group and just enjoy the vibes. I love the sound of the skates on the track. I also like that when I can't go in person I can watch it on Youtube, but it's just not the same. Gotta be there live to enjoy the full effects of banked track roller derby.

LA Derby Dolls had so much fun.

After spending several years in club volleyball across multiple clubs in the San Gabriel Valley,,…read moreour family can honestly say that Stormbreaker has been the best overall club experience we've had. What makes Stormbreaker different is that it was specifically created to solve frustrations that parents and players commonly experience in club volleyball. One of the biggest issues in club volleyball is roster size. Many clubs carry 12-14 players, meaning some girls spend large portions of tournaments on the bench, players worry about being substituted out after mistakes, and teammates feel like competitors fighting for the same playing time. Stormbreaker intentionally keeps rosters smaller, typically around 9-10 players. The girls are not only on the court more often, but they have a defined role and purpose. They are part of every match and rotation rather than wondering if they will see the floor. That consistency allows players to develop confidence through real game experience instead of constantly worrying about being replaced. Another major difference is training volume. Most clubs provide two practices per week. Stormbreaker provides three, plus additional opportunities for clinics, scrimmages, and position-specific development. More touches, more repetitions, and more feedback lead to more growth. Practices are also structured differently. Stormbreaker often has multiple teams training simultaneously with four or more coaches actively involved. Athletes are divided into position groups. Setters with setting coaches, hitters with hitting coaches, liberos on defense and serve receive, middles on middle-specific skills. The specialized instruction and repetition the girls receive is dramatically higher than what we experienced elsewhere. Stormbreaker also has something most clubs don't offer: a dedicated strength and athletic development area called The Vault. The girls participate in structured conditioning sessions focused on athleticism, explosiveness, core strength, injury prevention, and volleyball-specific performance. We've personally watched players become stronger, jump higher, and gain confidence over a single season. We also appreciated that development was built into the club experience rather than requiring constant outside lessons. Between three practices, specialized coaching, strength training, clinics, and additional opportunities for extra reps, our daughter received far more development within the program itself than we experienced elsewhere. Stormbreaker is also not built around a single coach. Jonathan, the club director, is deeply involved and genuinely cares about players and families. He has invested tremendous time studying collegiate, Olympic, and high-level volleyball development systems so coaches work from a shared philosophy. Unlike many clubs where your experience depends almost entirely on one coach, Stormbreaker has worked to build a consistent developmental system. The goal is that players continue progressing regardless of which coach they have because the training philosophy, skill development priorities, and expectations are shared across the club. What impressed me most, however, is the culture. The emphasis is not only on volleyball skills but on character, confidence, resilience, leadership, and personal growth. The club's mission and core values show up in how coaches interact with players, how families support one another, and how girls are encouraged to grow as athletes and young people. Our own team faced plenty of challenges. We had players learning new positions, several first-year club athletes, and periods of instability that could have derailed development. Instead, we watched the girls improve dramatically. They became more skilled, more confident, more competitive, and more resilient. Our daughter gained meaningful court time, developed confidence, and grew more in a single season than we expected. More importantly, she genuinely looked forward to practices and finished the season loving the game even more than when she started. We've spoken with many families from other Stormbreaker teams, and our experience is not unique. Parents consistently share that their daughters improved more in one season than in previous years elsewhere. No club is perfect, and Stormbreaker is still growing. But it was intentionally built to address problems many families have simply accepted as normal in club volleyball. They created an environment where athletes can develop, compete, build confidence, and genuinely enjoy the game. For our family, the difference has been significant, and we are grateful for everything our daughter gained this season both on and off the court.

Every week she is excited to go to practice to improve herself. The coaches are very professional and friendly. They have helped my daughter with technical skills. My daughter also asks for joining summer camps this year. Highly recommended for kids who want to play volleyball.

My teenage…read moredaughter Alexa is autistic, and what should have been a fun family day became an embarrassing, stressful, and heartbreaking experience for her. While we were standing in line to pay, an employee named Lesly stopped us and asked to see the tag on her clothing in front of everyone. Her tags are worn out, so they could not verify that it said swimwear. She was singled out and made to feel different. She was then not allowed in the pool because of her clothing, even though her brother was wearing the same type of swimwear and no one questioned him or asked to see his tag. I understand that pools have rules, but rules should be applied consistently and with compassion. My concern is not just the rule -- it is why my daughter was singled out when another child wearing the same type of clothing was not. I spoke with the supervisor hoping to resolve the situation. She asked to speak with Alexa, but by that point Alexa was already too stressed and overwhelmed to go back in. The experience had already affected her. She was hurt, embarrassed, and felt left out while watching her siblings enjoy the pool. The supervisor told me she trusted her employees, but I did not feel that my concerns were truly heard or that anyone took the time to understand the impact this had on my daughter. I also contacted the city's Human Resources department to report what happened and request follow-up, but I have not received a response. I hope the city reviews how situations like this are handled and provides better training for staff. A little understanding, patience, and kindness could have prevented a very painful experience for a child with autism.

Do NOT enroll in Planet Social Sports…read more Alternatives: WAKA, Zog, Urban Sports LA They are extremely unorganized (late notification about games, last minute cancellations, leagues starting later than they're supposed to), and very unprofessional. As I signed up for a league recently, when I received the schedule the games were at a completely different time than advertised and I was unable to make any of the games. When I asked for a refund, nobody replied to my email. I called the company and was told they were working on it with their supervisor and would get back to me. I've now followed up three separate times and received nothing back. The other leagues I've participated in are much better- I recommend going elsewhere.

There are a bunch of rules about there having to be 10 people on a team and matchups and meeting times, but none of that matters. My friends made a team that had 11 people on it. The other team that had signed up only had 3 people. Then 7 other people were signed up as "free agents." Meaning, yes, there were only enough for two 10-person teams to play. At that first game, however, there was a whopping 28 people who showed up, so we played 2 games of 7-v-7. After that, it was seriously just 15 people standing around trying to make one game work. There's a no refund policy. So if you paid $60 thinking you'd be playing kickball in a legit league, you're wrong. You're playing $60 have PSS loan you a ball and watch you and your friends play kickball. Really lame. The organizers were late to our second to last game, so we had to rush to play a game before they turned off the lights at the park. The league coordinator also forgot to email us on our last game, so we didn't even play a whole season. Overall, save your money if you want to play kickball and just go to a park and play kickball with your friends. Or join something like WAKA if you want to truly play the sport. I will say, however, that it was super nice of Rich/PSS to pick up the tab for beers on the first night of kickball. And I got a Planet Social Sports T-shirt that says the word "cornhole" on the back and that makes me laugh because I'm immature.
