We started with pasta dishes. I chose the tagliatelle "vedova allegra" which is the specialty of the house. Black pasta with crustaceans and pistachios. It was very good. My friends both got typical Sicilian dishes. One got the "Crimiso" with pine nuts raisins, and anchovies. The other got shrimp and sea urchins. Cassata Siciliana and the Cassatella di ricotta were our desserts. The cassata was heavenly light but both were good. The other was like a ravioli shape. She couldn't believe how much her dish took her back to her childhood when she would collect sea urchins with her late grandmother. It was really a joy just to see her face as she devour it. For desert we had the semifreddo; a beautiful semi-frozen blend of hot espresso and the coffee gelato, comes together perfectly. Hands down one of the best meals I've had in Italy/ in my life. Luckily it was also delicious! They had all the Sicilian classics like pasta con le sarde and caponata. These were excellent but the real star of the show was the huge whole fish that tasted like it had been caught that morning. They grilled it simply with tomatoes and potatoes but the ingredients were so fresh and flavorful that it tasted like heaven. This restaurant also introduced us to the excellent local white wine called Grillo. we ended up drinking it everywhere throughout the rest of our trip. Antiche Scale is located on the Main Street of a quiet little coastal town in Sicily called Castellammare del Golfo. Like many restaurants in Italy they don't open for dinner until quite late, in this case 7:30 pm. They have a decent sized seating area outside and a cute indoor dining room. Prices are reasonable and portions are huge so if you are staying in the area I highly recommend it.
