It's the Saturday of Derby Weekend....ok, it's Derby Day. As we usually do, we try to get out of town on Derby Weekend, which involved a trip to Shaker Village and then lunch, which leads us to La Fonda. After a helluva hike at Shaker Village I was ready for food and La Fonda was close enough to take care of that issue. La Fonda is located right on Main Street in downtown Harrodsburg and is very easy to find, with its burgundy (or is it maroon?) awning. Street parking was a breeze. We were seated immediately and our server (whose name I don't recall) greeted us and brought our drinks right away while we perused the ENORMOUS menu. The décor at La Fonda isn't overstated and it feels genuine to the atmosphere they're trying to create. Yes, it's colourful, but if you know anything about Mexican culture you know that it's VERY colourful. I opted for the spicy pork chili verde, since I have a weakness for chili verde. The "spicy" part of that comes from adding in some chorizo, which is 1) BRILLIANT and B) awesome. Not 10 minutes later our food arrived, hot and steamy. The spicy pork chili verde was OUT-FREAKING-STANDING. The addition of the chorizo gave it just the punch it needed. Our server was spot-on with refills and getting more napkins (chili verde can get kinda sloppy if you use the tortilla eating method). La Fonda is laid back and comfortable. Good food, reasonably priced, and great service. I might just have to make the trip from J-Town again soon. read more

It was my first time here with my husband.. Poor customer service, wrong order was given & no way of getting it fixed because the server never explain the ordering to us or did not understand when we asked him questions. The food was not flavorful at all, very bland. Ordered the carnitas and it was not even cook correctly. It should've been shredded and crispy like the pictures, and i receive soggy i oily cubes of meat, mostly fat. I wouldve rather not have eaten anything and starved. Go elsewhere...save your money and tastebuds. read more

I've been to this place multiple times. The staff is always hard working, friendly, the atmosphere is decent and the food comes out quickly. Last night 5 of us came to La Fonda for a late dinner. I ordered 3 tacos and got 3 puny limes that looked like they had been sitting out all day. The rest of the meals were also too salty. However, the main reason for this review is because my gf ordered a beef enchilada and the beef was definitely undercooked. I mentioned it to the staff (not a waiter) who stated it was chili powder. This was not chili powder and a pathetic excuse for not willing to take the food back and cook it right. This is not how you treat repeat customers. I recommend this place be avoided. read more

They have great ribeyes, which was unexpected, and I had two shots of Don Julio which came with wedge of lime and salt on the rim ( also unexpected and most welcome). I came in with a big group of seniors (10 of us) and the service was great too. Very pleased. read more

We happened to unexpectedly need truck repairs while passing through Harrodsburg, and this restaurant was recommended to us. It was a bright spot to our day! We stopped in for lunch. I got the taqitua (?spelling) Mexicano, with shredded beef. They were deep fried but not too greasy - fresh tomatoes, shredded lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream. Sooo good! And a side of rice and beans. Everything was tasty. Good value. My husband enjoyed his taco and enchiladas. I wish I lived closer- I'd be back again! read more

Definitely a staple in Harrodsburg. While I prefer the Chili Verde (chunks of pork shoulder in a green sauce), the Harrodsburg Special (grilled chicken, rice, and melted queso) is popular. Their salsa is different than many other restaurants as it is made without cilantro. If you want to explore something new, try the #26 Special (two chile rellenos filled with pulled pork, shrimp, and mexican sausage cooked in a red sauce and smothered in queso served on a cast iron fajita platter)!! read more

We decided to stay at an Airbnb in Harrodsburg for the night traveling from NYC to Austin. La Fonda was literally the only thing Open and walking distance away on Main Street. Our server was super nice- had a good conversation about the town/history. The food was flavorful and $1 frozen margaritas!!! You can't beat that deal anywhere!! Absolutely fabulous! It's family owned and every one of them works hard at providing the best food and best service! The menu is pretty extensive, so you won't lack for choices. There are a few dishes that are "family recipes" which makes them extra special. If we are wanting something off menu, it's never been a problem to order it. An oasis in the food dessert that is Harrodsburg on a Sunday night. After striking out at two local BnB's my boyfriend and I ended up at La Fonda's, ravenous and frustrated. Our moods were quickly changed by delicious steak fajitas, chips, guacamole and margaritas. We were sat immediately, served quickly, and feasted for $30 between the two of us (with drinks). I've been to La Fonda's more times than I can count. It was a frequent spot for my friends, family, and boyfriend to hit. I grew up in Harrodsburg, and La fonda's food has always been consistent. I will say their prices have jumped, but they've gained popularity so what do you expect? The food is always warm and brought out quickly. The salsa and chips is a 50/50 shot. Sometimes the chips are warm and fresh, sometimes their not. Sometimes the salsa is spicy, sometimes mild. My favorite is a simple Harrodsburg Special with extra sauce. If you're in Harrodsburg, pick La Fonda's food over the other local restaurant El Charro. read more

La Fonda's doesn't really compare to the Mexican places in Lexington, but it's good for the area. I do have to say they were very accommodating and will basically make anything how you want it. It's fairly priced for the amount of food you get. Service was good and staff were friendly. read more
