The property is beautiful and sprawling - easy and fun to explore with the inclusion of free bikes everywhere. My husband and I enjoyed riding the bikes around the winding trails across the property and using them to get from our room to the restaurants, bars, pool, and gym on property. The pool was beautiful, as was the beach. So many wonderful places to sit outside, relax, and enjoy the scenery. The gym was very large and well equipped. I do regret not taking advantage of the spa services as the entire spa/fitness complex was very serene. Service was outstanding. Ambiance was incredible. Rooms were luxurious (particularly the bathrooms!). The resort is so sprawling that no one part of it ever felt crowded. It truly felt like we had so much privacy. My only complaint is that food prices in the seafood restaurant were a little high for food that was just ok. But we thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant and patio in the main building, as well as a more casual dining option near the golf clubhouse. All in all, I wish we would have spent more of our honeymoon at Verdura. Our stay seemed far too short. Final thoughts - an excellent, romantic getaway for couples, but I suspect this place is also a family paradise in the summer months. I recently booked two rooms at this hotel and, unfortunately, my experience was far from what I had…read morehoped for. I booked the presidential suite room 201, and was extremely let down upon arrival. The room was outdated, showing signs of wear and tear that suggested it hadn't been remodeled in decades. For the hefty price of $2,400 a night, I expected a much more luxurious and not dated room. My other room 101 was actually nicer and 1/2 the price. After expressing my concerns, the staff did offer me a different room 105 that had been remodeled, although it was not a suite. While I appreciated the effort, it was disappointing to have to downgrade when I had specifically booked a suite for that price. They mentioned they would speak to the booking agency regarding the price difference or possibly cover my dinner as compensation. However, at the end of my stay, I was surprised to find that nothing was taken off my bill. The hotel is situated in an amazing location. However, the outdated rooms and the lack of care from the staff left much to be desired. I felt that the staff didn't prioritize guest satisfaction, which really detracted from the overall stay. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel unless significant changes are made to both the accommodations and the level of service. It's a shame, as this place has so much potential in such a prime location. Knowing other real luxury resorts are near the area we will just stay there next year.

Their restaurant is amazing and the food is great. 5 stars for the service, beds, and especially the towels, some of the best towels I've ever used. The missing 5th star is because of the noise in the room. You can hear other sounds from surrounding guests, talking, showers, toilets flushing etc. It's a 200 year old building so perfection in this area can't be expected, just thought it was worth mentioning.

It's a lot of fun to linger over the excellent breakfast or a cocktail. The poolside area is ringed with lounge chairs and attentive staff. At first I was concerned because the hotel is located outside of downtown Palermo. There are shuttles that drop you off downtown. It was actually a relief to be at a quiet location away from the crowded city center. Rooms are expensive, but staying here is an indulgence. It's well worth the splurge.

Grand Hotel Piazza Borsa. Disappointing Service…read more I would love to have rated this hotel higher. A classic Italian structure from 1862, it is built around a huge 4 story central atrium called the cloister. The last renovation was very well done maintaining the design themes while bringing the place up to modern standards. Our room was quite large with enough space to lay it out a small suite. It was beautifully furnished with both antiques and contemporary furniture. The housekeeping staff was first rate. The rest of the staff was another story. Our impression is that they felt it was a privilege for us to be allowed to be in the place. One evening we sat down in the atrium area to play cards. The wait staff attended to all the nearby tables and ignored us. After an hour, I went up to the room to get a beer that I had bought outside. In less than five minutes, the manager was at the table to tell us that a waiter had complained that what we were doing was not allowed. My response was not heated, but I was clearly very annoyed and unhappy. After telling me that we had been ignored, he backed down. In that case there "was no problem". The maître d' of the dining room displayed a similar attitude. He strutted about rather pompously ignoring diners after he had pointed out their tables. On our free day, we went down to breakfast around 9:00. At 9:30, he stopped by to hint strongly that we should go even though breakfast ended at 10:00. He said in plain English :"Two minutes!" The breakfast was worse than a bargain hotel breakfast in the states. Hot food was served cold. Cold meats had no flavor except for the smoked salmon. It tasted fishy. Selections were limited. By 9:00 they stopped bringing out fresh food. Even earlier, selection was very limited. There was no indication that guests could order omelets or fried eggs until people at another table did so.

The main entrance is on the side street but once you push through the revolving door, you'll find yourself just steps away from the gorgeous center courtyard which is used for weddings and gatherings around the fountain. Smart people designed a retractable roof over this section so it is available rain or shine. Check in is smooth and easy assuming you have made a reservation and within moments I was on my way to my room. I got there about noon and thankfully my room was ready as I needed a nap from the travel. I had what they call a deluxe room with a view and it was lovely. Large with a balcony overlooking the Piazza San Franseco, it had a king sized bed, desk, mini fridge and a pot for boiling water for tea, no coffee. The bathroom was great stocked with toiletries, a decent shower, heated towel rack with plush towels and a toilet that required a master control panel. What's that, you say? Yep. This toilet comes with a control panel that had it doing all that a toilet should and then some. My favorite feature was the light inside, perfect for those middle of the night visits. Breakfast was also included in my room rate and is served until 10 am in a lovely room on the first floor. It's buffet style and includes eggs, bacon, pastries, cheese, cereals etc and was just ok. I came toward the end of the time and the food wasn't warm any longer and the coffee was not good at all so my advice is go early. Pricing is fairly reasonable as well. My two night stay, with breakfast, ran me about $450 US for a deluxe room,which is a comparable rate to other hotels of this caliber. Please note that there are cheaper rooms as well if you don't want a view or a larger room,as this was an upgrade. Perfect location for your stay in Palermo.
