this restaurant used to be one of my favorites in Merida! it has gone down hill so fast i can't…read morebelieve the franchise has not been pulled! Tonight i ate here tonight for the last time! the place is very large but was only 1/3 filled on Friday night at 8:00! it took 15 minutes to get a drink and i had to get the waiters attention! then another 15 minutes and no one to take our order until again we got the waiters attention! 20 minutes to get the food and the Broccoli and mashed potatoes were served Cold and the steak was very cold like it had been seating out for the entire 20 minutes! Do Not Go!

Secondly being as it's an American restaurant we found the appetizers had no flavor and we're obviously frozen. The music was so loud and club like. In fairness we went in for a drink and some French fries and their fries were fine. We weren't looking for alcohol drinks & a club. We just needed a cool place to sit and snack and use wifi. Lastly when we were leaving we stopped to use the restroom and none of the stalls had toilet sets on them. Figuring their prices I thought they would have at least decent restrooms. The 3 stars is only because our waiter was just fine. These issues weren't his fault. Next time we will avoid coming here. Oh we visited around 4pm. So it wasn't busy at all.

This is one of the absolute best places for botanas in Mérida. Go and order a beer and you'll soon…read morefind yourself devouring a number of tasty snacks. The ambiance is always lively, the food and drinks always reasonably priced and delicious, and the service is great. We always make this one of our first stops in Mérida!

Came through twice…read more The first was at noon on a Sunday. Joke is on us: we learned they're not open until 2pm (only on Sundays. Otherwise, they're open at noon all other days.) We came through a couple of days later because it came highly HIGHLY recommended by Big Bro. So, I was more curious than anything. Another reason I came through is to try their kibi's. (It topped my Yelp search when looking for this particular grub.) We wanted to get drinks as well since it was a hot and humid day! Pina colada for me, brewskis for Hubbers. We put in an order for the kibis because that's main reason I came through. Drinks came through, and then... mini plates of snacks, oh, WHAT! La botana, is what they call them. Whew, didn't plan on eating more than the kibis, but I welcomed it! It was a pretty good variety, too: there were sausages, pork skin, jicama and some sort of salad. Staff told us if we wanted refills on any or all of them, to let them know and they'd be more than happy to comply. Kibis finally came through, and I have to admit that I was disappointed. Not only did they lack taste, but they were also hard. They may have been overcooked which most likely contributed to the lack of flavor. Initial thought in mind were hockey pucks. Chewing through one was a challenge that I didn't bother going for a second. (It was practically inedible.) The guac, pico de gallo and sauce were great, but didn't do much for the pucks. Hubbers really liked it, though, so there's at least that. FOOD: 2. SERVICE: 4. I noticed staff mostly just hanging out together at the bar, but they were excellent at being mindful of guests. VALUE: 3. 5 for las botanas, 1 for the kibis. PARKING: Street only. It will be a challenge, for sure. OVERALL: 3. FUN FACT: They are the second oldest cantina in Merida (opened in 1917.) I learned the place is far livelier at night when they have bands performing. Someday, maybe...? Not a one-and-done, but it'll be a long minute before a second visit, if at all.

It wasn't great but it was good. They have an English menu, just tell them when you enter "Ingles"…read moreand they'll get you the English menu. The two girls that were there both of my visits don't speak any English but a guy who was working in the back did, so when I asked for the English menu, they automatically assigned him to my table. I had to speak slowly and so did he but we worked through everything and he was SO friendly! The first visit I ordered the cowboy fajitas. I was a little disappointed that the only veggies were green peppers and onions, I think at least some tomatoes would have added some good flavor, but the bbq sauce was tasty and the dish included onion rings and battered-fried jalapenos which had lost most of their kick but were still delicious. The meal was decent but quite greasy and salty. This is more of a 'pub food' Chili's than the ones I've been to in Hawaii, which are more fresh/lighter fare. The second visit I had top sirloin with sides of mashed potatoes and beans. The sirloin was tough and under (although the price was low for steak) but the mashed potatoes were amazing and the beans were in the form of a delicious soup so overall I was very happy with the meal. I asked for spicy sauces and he brought me out too, a habanero sauce and a dish of some type of hot sauce, both were excellent. I also had lemonade (tasty but beverages are fairly spendy) and mango lemonade (delicious but very sweet).
