Disappointing service. Went in to watch an NFL game recently. It took some time to flag down the waiter to order a beer. After 20 minutes, I went to the bar, where I ran into the waiter and asked about my beer, he stated they were out of the brand I wanted, he then just went about his business, no apology, no offer to get anything else. After waiting at the bar anther 10 minutes and being ignored, I had to ask one of the bartenders if I could order a beer, he wasn't any nicer than the waiter. read more

Wandered in for lunch on a Sunday while staying at a nearby AirBNB. Loved the vibe of the place-very spacious, lots of tables, and TVs playing NFL over the bar. We sat at the bar and had some good margaritas with good service, if a bit longer between check ins than we liked. Hubby enjoyed the beef pot pie a lot. I liked my crab cakes and spinach dip, both of which were made better with habanero salsa. It seems a place with lots of friendly regulars. Definitely recommend. read more

The wait staff just tries to wait the customers out. "If we ignore them, maybe they'll go away." After 25 minutes, I did, but the couple who walked in 18 minutes after I did had ordered and received their drinks by the time I walked out. The service was literally, non-existent. But I would bet the staff thinks they're making enough $ to get by, so why actually try to make a lot more? Miserable lot. Never saw one smile from the staff toward anyone. What a great place! To start,it's gorgeous with the beautiful high ceilings, chandeliers, floors and woodwork. The menu is extensive and reasonably priced.The service each time I was there was flawless. Food delicious and reasonably priced. Have tried the chicken and brie sandwich, crab cakes, BLT, and Guinness Beef stew. Also their fries and potato wedges were delicious. And, I can vouch for the authenticity of their Irish coffee. Such a local gem and maybe the best Yelp find during my week long stay in Mérida. Loved it so much the first time, I went back the very next day to try something else. Friendliest servicer/bartenders (very common in Mérida) and the ambiance of this little restaurant/bar is such a chill vibe. Super random menu, literally could get a chicken gyro (I got it the first day it was amazing) or fettuccine Alfredo. But everything is made fr scratch! The most unassuming place you will ever find. Such excellent customer service.. the drinks were superb with the food to match 10/10!! I had the garlic shrimp with the crab cakes and they did not disappoint. I had an Irish cream shot along with two mango mojitos. I dipped the bread in the garlic butter from the shrimp and it was insanely delicious garlic bread. We'd heard great things about Hennessey's from many ex-pats we know in Merida. Typically we head straight for local foods when we travel, but it's always nice to have a break to more familiar foods. With COVID-19, we tend to only eat outdoors. While walking Paseo Montejo, we'd seen Henessey's several times and that they offered plenty of physically distant outdoor seating, checked temperatures, and offered hand sanitizer. The outdoor space has a very relaxed beer garden type atmosphere. We also popped our heads inside, and the big dark wood bar and decor shout Irish pub! One of the things we noticed is that in addition to dining there and taking out, they offered a good selection of pre-made frozen items to go. Our server Omar was very kind and patient with our attempts at speaking Spanish. He shared a QR code to scan for their menu and took our order for drinks. We started with a glass of Merlot and a glass of Pinot Grigio (95 pesos each). My husband decided on a Cesar Salad (120 pesos) as a starter, surprisingly large, and had a very tasty Cesar Dressing. I tried the Duck Spring Roll (148 pesos). I was surprised by three crunchy deep-fried Spring Rolls, cut in half and filled with lots of shredded tender Duck meat. The two dipping sauces were very flavorful - one sweeter and one with a little bite to it. For our entrees, we headed straight for traditional Irish Pub fare. My husband ordered the Fish and Chips (175 pesos). The order came with two big pieces of crispy battered White Fish, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. It also had a nice portion of Potaoe Wedges, ColeSlaw, and Cocktail and Tartar Sauce's sides. I ordered the Shepherds Pie (185 pesos). The tower of Shepherds Pie layered Ground Beef with Peas and Carrots, topped with chunky Mashed Potatoes and Cheddar Cheese. It came with a small side salad and some Mushroom Gravy. - it was delicious and a good size portion. For my taste wish it had been a bit warmer. Overall we loved Hennessey's and hope to come back and enjoy a pint and some more great food. Really nice Irish Pub in the middle of Mérida. We asked some people sitting at the bar what food is good and they said everything. They were right. We sat outside on a beautiful March evening. I started with a Tecate and my wife got a Gin and tonic. Cold mug with my beer. I had the fish and chips and my wife got the Texas board. My fish was perfectly fried and the chips crispy. The tarter sauce was really good addition to both the fish and the chips. My wife liked her board. We split the two really big jalapeño poppers and she enjoyed her steak enchilada and quesadilla. Maybe it's because good pub food is so rare in Mexíco. Maybe it's because I was buzzed. And maybe they really were just incredibly well executed. The wings were crisp on the outside. The sauce was exactly like back in the states. The meat inside was juicy and fall-apart. And there was only a very slight note of the poultry gameyness smell common in Mexican poultry. This review is not exactly your typical review of the establishment, but,not everything has to be alcoholic beverages. My wife and I were walking down Paseo de Montejo and decided we wanted to have a beer. However, since we both have a delicate sweet tooth, we were allured by the desserts available and instead we shared this amazing dessert called "Irish Passion". Holy cow! What an amazing chocolate dessert. It had about two different layers of chocolate, being sweet milk and dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is usually bitter but it truly brings out a very nice taste this dessert, which is served warm for you. The scoop of ice cream will prevent the chocolate to become overly sweet, but I think it's perfectly fine with or without the ice cream. We came to Hennessey's last weekend, for the Mayweather MacGregor fight. We did not have a reservation however we arrived early in the evening and was given a table outside in front of the TV, which was great. The food was great. We had the buffalo wings and fish cakes to start. Delicious. Our main of shepherds pie and bangers and mash were also good. The problem here is service. I do not believe it being fight night was the cause as it the venue was full, but not bursting at the seams. There was was also plenty of staff. It took MANY attempts to get a server's attention each time we wanted to order more drinks or our food. When we finally did and asked for the menu, ten minutes passed and we did not receive one yet our serve gave another table a menu and continued go walk past us obvious to us waving him down. We finally ordered our food. It came with no cutlery. The server said they would return with it. Five minutes passed. More minutes passed. We waved our hands. We looked around. Nothing. In the end I went inside and asked for cutlery. This place seems popular with the tourist and expat crowd but it needs a huge improvement in its service levels. read more

Hennessey's is a wonderful surprise. For New Yorkers who are used to not so great Irish Pub food, Hennessey's is something new. We were reluctant to go to lunch at an Irish Pub in Merida, a town known for terrific local food. When we finally broke down and tried it, we were absolutely delighted. Just about everything on the menu is a hit, whether it is Irish, Mexican, Italian or deli food. Two of my favorites are the BLT and the shrimp tacos; but, I've yet to order something that was not delicious. Worst burger I've ever eaten in my life. The only thing going for it was the size. The bun was still cold from the freezer and the big burger had a sliver of lettuce and a tiny slice of tomato. Dry, tasteless meat and dry bread. Also, the doors were still locked at opening time and people had to wait outside because the guys running the place didn't realize the doors were locked. I visited Merida Summer of 2012. I ended up going to Hennessy's Irish Pub on two occasions. The first time was with my parents. We ended up have a few drinks at the bar. As the night progressed we ended up meeting the owner Sean Hennessy. He made us all feel welcome and we were thrilled to meet a fellow Dubliner. As the progresses we all decided to have dinner at Hennessy's. I had the fish and chips. It was out of this world. Hennessy's is very clean, great customer service, and the staff are so friendly. It was so good we ended up going back the next afternoon. Sean and Colm the owners are outstanding people and will certainly make you feel very welcome. They are both well versed on anything you want to know about Merida. Lastly they certainly take a lot of pride in their Establishment. I highly recommend Hennessy's in Merida. read more

We went there for the grand daddy of events, St Patrick's day. We arrived to find a packed house full of revelers from all over the planet. We managed to get two bar stools and ordered some food while listening to an Irish band playing in the background. The mood was very festive, the staff was really friendly (loved the T-shirts that said "Irish Today Mexican Tomorrow") and the food turned out to be surprisingly good. We sampled some wings, a Sheppard Pie (my favorite) and something else I cannot remember (but we liked all our food). On of the dishes we would have loved to sample was a lamb stew (unfortunately they ran out, but we saw plenty at the bar and it looked and smelled amazing. The place itself is very nice and located on a beautiful street, with ample parking, prices are reasonable and they have both indoor and outdoor areas. read more
