The reservations for our lunch at La Gloire de mon Pere were arranged by our tour, it is a lovely restaurant in the countryside with beautiful views and quiet spots to enjoy lunch inside or out. The menu prepared wasn't particularly appealing to me but the stars of the lunch were the Seabass and chocolate mousse cake....absolutely phenomenal. We were offered an artichoke with anchovies and the anchovy overpowered the artichoke. The chicory tart with bleu cheese walnuts and bacon was mildly successful. The service was outstanding and the Red wine was another winner. I looked at their dinner menu and they have some lovely pre fixe meals for $32 and $40 euro which looked wonderful. read more

We were there the other night with another couple . We ordered a bottle of one of their more expensive wines , a white burgundy. After it was poured , we all took a sip - that's when my friend discovered that he had just plunged his mouth into a cobweb . We called the waitress , who went to the manager. She came back and gave us this inane excuse that since the season was changing and people were sitting indoors now , they were using a different set of glasses ( the conclusion I got was that none of our glasses had been washed for six months ) . Then she shrugged her shoulders and poured my friend's wine , cobweb and all , into another glass . We asked for the manager. He was too busy circulating around the room and welcoming his friends and completed ignored us . We were not looking for remuneration, a simple apology from him would have been adequate . We looked forward to this restaurant and started the meal with an expensive bottle of wine. It turns out my glass had a spider and cobwebs in it. When I showed that to the wait person she apologized but the manager never came over even when we politely asked for him. They took away the glass, told us they "missed cleaning a glass from outside" and they said well what can we do with a shrug. The manager was 10 feet away hanging with his friends. It was simply poor manners by management and they took zero responsibility for their messing up. If you like food from people that do not care if your plate is clean, or if they serve you bugs or vermin,then this is the place for you! Clearly they don't care. read more

Casual and relaxing, outdoors around the fountain, or tucked inside when the weather threatens, and that is rare. Energetic service and consistently good food, whether in August when extra busy or in January on a cool evening when you want to get warm all over.
