Maybe we ordered improperly, but after the hype locally for La Hache, I wasn't sure what was raveworthy here. It was at best "a nice night out". The escargot appetizer was easily the highlight. Swimming in butter, and with a soft texture that has some bite, I understood why it was a mainstay of French cuisine. But the cocktails, man... fruity perhaps, or spirit-forward, but always with a short flavor profile and absent balance. Our mains of a Caesar salad and fish and chips were admittedly not French. (We were told later that the duck is the menu's highlight.) But everything on the menu should live up to the restaurant's standard, whatever it is. The fish and chips were unseasoned, though the crust crispiness was 5/5. And my friend asked for table salt to finish her salad. The ambiance in there is nice at least, but the food left us wanting. read more

We made a day trip to Strasbourg from Paris during Christmas market season, and we stopped into La Hache for a late lunch/snack. Service was prompt and attentive. We started with aperol spritzes and had a beef tartare and escargot. Skinny French fries accompanied the tartare. Both dishes were delicious, and no complaints about our experience at all. The restaurant was fairly busy even though it was 2:30 pm. I would recommend it for a nice sit down meal. read more

The French experience we wanted! I originally made a reservation for 1530 but we arrived about an hour early. While most were turned away, we actually got seated at the bar which was fantastic as we were both famished. I am not a French cuisine expert but prior to making reservations, it checked the boxes with wines, escargot, etc plus it fantastic reviews. Be advised-you'll wait but the food is worth it. We started with escargot which, if you've had, are squishy things in garlic butter! We all want the garlic butter! Then we had some foie gras, really just to say I had it. I won't have it again for ethical reasons but it was delicious! My wife had a cheese plate and was in heaven and I had a beef bourguinon, that was hearty and filling. The service was incredible. The drinks were fantastic. They dehydrate fruit there behind the bar too to place as garnish on some of their drinks. The ambiance is clean with axes on the wallpaper around. It is darker in the bar area and lighter in the dining area. The eggplant that comes with the pork belly plate was very good. So happy we found this restaurant around the corner from one of the Christmas markets. It was a great place to stop and relax for a little while a restaurant has tables and bar seating the hostess seated us pretty much as soon as we walked in. We were there for a late lunch so we all opted for the plate du jour which included an appetizer entrée and dessert for 29 euro There was about five things to choose from. The celery soup was delicious. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was really good . The steak was cooked perfectly and was very good. It came with veggies. The salmon was also perfectly cooked. It came on a bed of sauerkraut which was different but it all came together really well. The risotto was creamy and had a lot of mushrooms. The desserts were all delicious. The apple crumble had a good crust with a lot of apples. The tiramisu was creamy and have a hint of peanut butter. The ice cream sandwich was really good, It had raspberry ice cream, a chocolate cookie and pistachios. We also shared a bottle of Cremant champagne from the Alsace region. Came here right at opening with no reservations and was able to get seated, 10 min later it was packed out . Food was pretty decent and very modern compared to the other restaurants in the area. Tartare was cut a little too thick but frog legs were real nice and flavorful. Our dinner at La Hache was just delicious. We had the beet salad with a lovely vinaigrette and crunchy granola--so very delicious! My husband and a wonderful risotto and I had the sausage with mashed potatoes and a lovely au jus. Every item and every bite was so delicious. Great service and lively atmosphere. Make the stroll off the touristy streets in Strasbourg and find this jewel. Reservations highly recommended, but maybe you are lucky like us and they give u a table w/o one. Try off peak hours and give them a call. Service is friendly, they speak multiple languages, are speedy but not pushy, and attentive. Food was fantastic. The best I tried was the veal liver (pictured) with an extremely well prepared dijon based creme. The texture of the liver was as perfect. This dish sent me back memory lane to my mom's liver based dishes. Beef Bourguignon was very tender, soft, melting in your mouth with a very well prepared sauce. Least favorite was the risotto (reco to skip) as it was non al dente and seemed overlly heavy. Creme brule was also very tasty, not too sweet or creamy. Nice bistro with a modern touch. Atmosphere buzzing with pan-Europeans. No outdoor seating which is a slight minus in this old part of town. Menu ranging from snails and frog leg to fish n chips. A well thought out menu with something for everyone; Salads, fish, meat, chicken, pork and vegetarian. The chefs know what they are doing! All of our dishes were flavorful. The steak was cooked to perfection and ohhh so juicy. The chicken with thyme was moist. The bowl of potatoes on the side were scrumptious. The bone marrow and snails appetizers are not to be missed. The ice cream is not overly sweet and very satisfying. The chocolate raspberry tarte got rave reviews. The Amaretto cocktail was too sweet. The virgin mojito was heavy on the mint. Portions were large and some leftovers were taken home. Waiters were extremely helpful, fun, energetic and spoke English. Reservations recommended. Pay parking on street. THREATENED AND ABUSED BY OWNER. Absolutely horrible evening. We went on my birthday. I ordered a vegetarian gnocchi. My wife had fish and chips. Hers was good and she was happy with it. My gnocci was bland. No flavour and no seasoning. I ate a small amount and then told the waiter. He did not offer an alternative but apologised. When we came to pay the bill my meal was on the bill along with drinks, and desserts. I said I did not want to pay for my gnocci because I did not eat it. He went away and said that he did not have the authority to remove it but gave me 50% off. I said I was not happy paying for it but did so. He told me to see the owner. The moment I mentioned it to the owner he started screaming at me saying that the gnocchi was excellent and that 10 people had eaten it that evening with no complaint. This was a lie as we were two of the first people in the restaurant and ate quickly. The menu was large and it was EXTREMELY unlikely that 10 people would have ordered the same meal - especially a veggie meal in a big meat eating area). He pushed my twice physically and laughed at me and screamed at me each time I tried to talk. I am disabled and 70 years old. I am still considering legal action against the owner.
