    Creme brulee

This was a recommendation from my sister as she had taken many of her visitors here. The food was probably my favorite from all that I had eaten in my visit with her in Germany. We were lucky to grab an outside table, which was so nice to eat and watch as people walked by. The square was also alive with music as there was a local musician performing while we were dining.

When I come back to Strasbourg, it will be specifically to order the Baeckeoffe- Alsatian Stew once again. The crème brûlée was also amazing. Cool wood paneled room in a 14th century building. Waitress was accommodating and spoke fluent English.

Okay, so, apparently it is an Alcasian Restaurant, but on the outside is the word Bierstub, which makes me think that it is actually a pub. Well, in my mind, if it looks like a pub, smells like a pub, and serves you beer like a pub (except with table service because this is, well, France), then it probably is a pub, despite what certain non-Yelp websites might try telling you. So, yeah, they sold me a beer, and didn't complain that I didn't want any food. As a pub, well, yeah, it wasn't too bad, it certainly did have charm, but there are definitely better places here to visit.

Situated in Old Town Strasbourg, Au Vieux Strasbourg is a great way to experience the cuisine and ambiance of Strasbourg. Although the menu is huge, it does include items that are typically associated with this part of the world. French onion soup, muenster torte, cheesy spaetzle, strudel, flammkuchen, leverknapple )liver dummplings) and baeckoff aux trois (3 meat stew w/poyayo and salad).. The menu is a blend of Germanic and French influences and portion sizes are large compared with typical French portion size.. This Wienstub also has local brews and wines. I enjoyed a dry white Riesling. This is an historic building with three levels of dining, as well as. outside tables with umbrellas. Some of the upper rooms are small and intimate with steep stairways but the entire building has charm and is period decorated. Some waiters speak both French and English. My French is not what it should be and some of the conversation got lost in translation. Service overall was good but because of my inadequate French, I got the wrong dessert. Prices are what you might expect at a restaurant in this area of Strasbourg but certainly not outlandish. The restaurant is located about a block from the Notre-Dame Cathedral in the heart of Old Town so enjoy the full experience of meandering along the cobblestone streets before and after dinner.

    Tarte À L'Oignon

The ambiance here is pretty cool, definitely a vintage feel to it. There's a lot of knick knacks scattered throughout the restaurant to look at. I would definitely make a reservation here because it is pretty popular. I personally got the Tarte À L'oignon (onion tarte) with a side of salad. Although it was only a starter, it filled me up regardless. Our group got a plate of Escargots de Bourgogne Maison (snails) marinated in garlic and parsley. They look a bit like and have a similar texture as curled up mushrooms. This was my first time trying snails and to my surprise, was pretty good.

Have you seen Harry Potter? You know the Weasleys house? That vibe. This place was cool. It was rickety. And old. And the servers were kind of rude, despite our being kind and speaking enough French to get us by. Granted, it was a busy day as the Christmas market had just begun. That said: I went all in with a sauerkraut and meat plate. It was okay, a little bland and unexpected, but I feel I've been so darn Americanized I have weird expectations of what sauerkraut really is. The meats were delicious & I would definitely order again. We also had some French onion soup, which was wonderful on the cold day we were there. Side note: they had some really delicious looking flat bread pizza stuff... Would order that if we ever went back.

    Sauerkraut with 5 meats.

Le confit de canard avec de la choucroute était le meilleur que j'aie jamais mangé. Le serveur était parfait. Le prix était raisonnable.

A place for tourists. I don't recommend it at all. Search for Michelin guide to go to real Alsace restaurants in the area.

This restaurant is now going to be haunting me in my dreams it was that good . First off, the onion tart is crack. The perfect crust with fluffy eggs and onions and bacon. I would say generally I'm not the biggest fan of quiches, but the onion tart is a must. Then we had the white asparagus special with a soft boiled egg and lentils with the most flavorful dressing ever. I was with my two daughters and wife and we split the onion tart and asparagus special as an appetizer, and literally a fight almost broke out among us. Then we split the steak, pork filet and potato pancakes. Just absolutely delicious. My older daughter does not like salad and she actually couldn't believe she liked the side salad that came with her steak. Not the lame iceberg bagged salad mix you get it some restaurants. This was frise, endive and radicchio in a vinaigrette that was spot on. Best french fries ever as a side on the pork fillet. Incredible home fries as the side on the steak. I wish I would've taken photos to post, but the dishes were getting destroyed as soon as they came out. We had the rhubarb pie as a dessert and Panna cotta. We are coming back tomorrow for lunch and getting the asparagus and tart again. It was that good.

My husband had choucroute garnie and I had chicken with Munster sauce, a very interesting dish. The house wine and cremant were wonderful. We can't say enough about this homey restaurant if a person is looking for nontouristy, local food and vibes.

Such a beautiful restaurant! Amazingly friendly service! And of course delicious food!…read more We were in town for the Christmas market, so it was fun to take a break from being outside and eating mostly from food vendors. We came in for lunch and went with the market menu they were offering. We also ended up adding a cheese course, because when in France! Can't say no to cheese! I don't know if it's the primacy effect, but I loved the first course. It was like a little egg soup dish. So warm and hearty, it was just comforting. Everything else was good too, but the cheese was a major highlight for me. The waiter selected a sampling of cheeses for us from a huge cheese cart. It was fun to watch and see all the cheeses on display.

And when your walking tour guide tells you a fun story about a Michelin-starred restaurant and it's interesting name, you decide to take yourself there. I haven't been to a Michelin-starred restaurant in a very long time and I have never been to one alone, but it was still a lovely experience. The staff was very attentive, kind, and knowledgeable. The food was inventive and enjoyable, though I admit I had a hard time understanding the waitstaff sometimes, so I wasn't always sure what I was eating, but luckily I'm willing to eat anything. I had the discovery menu (appetizer, fish, entree, dessert), 3-course wine pairing, coffee, and the restaurant's "extras" which included some very tasty amuse bouche at the beginning, small desserts with the coffee, and even a cookie to take a home. I did not order from the cheese cart, but it was fun to watch it wheeled out for others. For a Michelin restaurant, I found it very reasonably priced and accessible, though I'm not sure I can say I was completely blown away by the food (wine was fantastic, though). But I did see the crocodile! Which is where the restaurant gets it's name: in the 1800s a sailor came back from Egypt with a stuffed crocodile and had the bright idea to use it as a marketing (who wouldn't want to see a stuffed crocodile?!?)
