This is a tourist stop, with busses stopping right across the street. Of course, while you wait to have your order taken or your food to come out, the drinks are flowing. No problem with that service. When I got my food, it was pretty good, but a little expensive. I enjoyed the tortilla chips and salsa. The house made guacamole was delicious, though.

It's a traditional colonial style Spanish building with an open atrium in the middle complete with a running fountain directly in the center. They are well known for their brunch, but we stopped in for the lunch service. It was quite crowded when we got there, but we were able to be seated right when we arrived. They have a fairly large menu filled with all sorts of Mexican dishes, all the ones that we tried fantastic. I chose the chicken pool because it was the only new one for me. Was raised in San Diego and live in Los Angeles so most of the dishes on the menu I can find back at home but the pinup was a new one for me and I really loved it. The restaurant location is very walkable and is in the outer ring of the city center aka Plaza de Armas. Is easy to walk to the farmers market in the center courtyard or to one of the other many shops close by. I would definitely recommend to anyone to stop here when visiting Valladolid and I will definitely be back next time I am in the area.

Indoor n outdoor seating .. recommend grabbing an umbrella table outside and taking in the sites, sounds n people watching (depending on where you sit - you may be visited by an occasional local (your friend) inquiring if you'd like to buy a boot leg DVD, bakery item, jewelry ++). The beer is cold and opened table side and the Mexican food is simple, flavorful n authentic! (The prices are ridiculously cheap and the service is stellar - be nice and tip generously ;-) Ps - if needed, they have nice restroom.

The Bars and Restaurants have tables on the street in a sidewalk cafe type setting. I have been stopping here on every trip to Progresso. The immediate place as you enter the street area, is Panco Villa Restaurant. You are greeted offer a menu along with the cost of the beverages, Margaritas 2 for $5 or beer for $1. I must say, the margaritas are made traditional, squeezed lime, triple sec, bar syrup, and tequila and in a real glass, not a plastic cup. I had several items to eat, one was the shrimp cocktail, Mexican style, very delicious and then I had the Devil Shrimp, sometimes referred to as Camarones el Diablo. They will prepare to any degree of heat that you want. So, if you are cruising through Progresso, give this place a stop for food or just a drink. Ask for Sergio.

I had a local tequila and a local beer that were both excellent. The fish soup appetizer was a meal, as noted/advised by my server. But I also had grilled shrimp which were perfectly grilled and delicious, as were the side order of mashed potatoes that came with it. Latte was tasty but needed to be hotter, and I just wasn't up for asking my server to take it back and heat it more. Overall, a fantastic dining experience at a reasonable price in my opinion.

My husband and I ordered Molotes de Plátano to start; it's plantain stuffed with cheese served over creamy Valladolid longaniza. It was delicious! And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, it was time for the entreés. We ordered the Costilla de Res en Miel de Mole, a braised beef short rib bathed in mole served with mashed potatoes. The meat was savory and so tender it came right off the bone. The other entreé, which I honestly don't remember the name of, featured a tamal and duck, also served in a rich mole. The combination of flavors were interesting, complex, yet unique - unlike anything I'd ever tasted before. Of course, I never miss dessert. We ordered the Arroz con Leche, but not a typical one. This version was deconstructed with a vanilla buñuelo, rice pudding foam, honey toffee and ice cream. Another complex mixture of flavors with just the perfect touch of sweetness. The service was excellent from the moment we arrived. Even though we showed up before our reservation, we were seated immediately. Our sever kindly walked us through the menu and was attentive throughout our dinner. All in all, my coworkers were right - Micaela Mar y Leña is a must-visit in Mérida. Exquisite food, warm service, and an experience that truly stands out.
