Terrible food. Ordered antipasto, the prosciutto was thick and stringy, the mortadella looked like it was pulled from an Oscar Meyer package and the taste comparable. Ordered pasta...a simple spaghetti with arugula; worse than any mediocre red sauce joint back in the States. Waitstaff was poor and inattentive. If you need something, prepare to ask multiple times. The interior is nice. Beautiful arched brick ceilings, but the charm ends there. Stay away. You'd be best served anywhere else. read more

This was pretty average. The location is cool, the tables in the alley. But the rest is pretty ordinary. The service was ok. Not great. The pizza was good. But we found it to be a bit expensive for what you got and it is really touristy. It was okay but there are some places in Assisi that would be cheaper and would be better. read more

Our family stopped in for lunch and enjoyed our meal, though it was a bit expensive. We enjoyed the meat and cheese platter and the house red wine was also good. My wife enjoyed the pumpkin ravioli, though my Truffle pasta was a bit overloaded with truffles. The service was friendly and the restaurant interior was very nice. Not a good experience. Servers seemed very unhappy in their job. Food was mediocre at best. We asked for the remainder to be packaged to go, they handed us a box and walked away. We just left it because it wasn't that good to begin with. No one seemed to be charge. We would not recommend going here. read more

My cousin and I ate here in December. The caesar salad is horrible. Basically lettuce topped with mayo. She took one bite and sent it back. However, they refused to remove it from our bill. I'd give this place 3.5 stars. They're overall a pretty good restaurant. Their cooking is pretty consistent to what I've been eating in other restaurants around Roma, Firenze, and Assisi. However, they have a very nice decor and ambience. The restaurant is tucked in a corner from the main plaza in Assisi. You can get a quiet space if you'd like. Someone complained about the service once you sit down--but I recognize he's also American. Just so you're aware if you haven't eaten in Italian sit-down restaurants, it's proper restaurant etiquette to receive your dishes much slower than in the States. They aren't about productivity but quality time shared over a good meal. The downside of this typical service is that they forgot to give us our Secondi dishes before asking us if we wanted dessert. We ordered off of their Standardized Combination Sheet and a few Antipastas, as you can see from the photos. Their noodles are all cooked Adelante (American version of slightly undercooked so it's extra chewy, typical to Italian cooking. But I really enjoy this consistency.) Their meats are all delicious. The steak is a little too medium cooked for my preference, but it's very flavorful. If you're in town, give La Lanterna a chance, I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

The ambiance is great. The food... not so much. The price isn't cheap. Leafy greens are expected; it makes no sense for salads made mostly of iceberg lettuce white stalks to cost so much. The bread had raw dough in the middle and the green beans were obviously store bought and put in a freezer until it was time for our dish to come out. The salad we ordered that was supposed to have cheese in it came without cheese. I'd have given them a one star review, but they brought us a cheese platter to make up for the missteps. This place could really do great if it was to try a little better. It has so much potential. read more

One of the worst dining experiences I've had anywhere, ever. As if the rude, curt waitstaff and interminable wait weren't off--putting enough, my spinach side came garnished with a.... cockroach. Although the dish was whisked away and we weren't charged for that one side dish, it was replaced after 30 minutes with.... more spinach! . Zero apologies and condescending treatment throughout. La Lanterna was outstanding! Antipasti was fantastic featuring local meats and cheeses. Also all our pasta dishes were unbelievable. The wine we had was also local and excellent. They have indoor or outdoor seating, even better is that the restaurant is not on the main thoroughfare. The patio is comfortable and a great way to relax after a busy day shopping and visiting the sites. The food and service was outstanding. If you are in Assisi you must take the time to enjoy this hidden gem. read more
