We had fond memories of this restaurant from a previous trip to Assisi, and we weren't disappointed when we went back for lunch this time. The mixed vegetarian antipasti plate is a stand-out, something different from what you usually find in Italy. The pastas were also quite pleasing, fresh and perfectly al dente. The service could stand to be a bit more attentive, but other than that I can think of no complaints. Unlike most restaurants, at Pallotta the water is included in the cover charge (which explains why the previous reviewer didn't see it on his bill).

For those people who talk about slow service, well ... this is Italy and this is one of the more local restaurants around. That said, I agree it's slow. This place has English menu's and most of the waiters do speak some English but they're clearly not trying to become a tourist attraction. I probably could have rated this a 3.5 on a good day. We stumbled across this place recommended by our guide as one of the few places open close to noon in the winter on a very windy, cold day. My parents took a coffee break before lunch while we walked around some more. They were very sweet about us occupying the table for hours and being slow was an advantage for us in that sense. We wanted to try umbria truffles given it's truffle season. The strangozzi pasta with truffles wasn't that great. The pasta itself was good. Honestly, it could be that I don't really like black truffles as much as white truffles or other kinds but it smelled and tasted more like traditional mushrooms. Though their ravioli with truffles and Parmesan cheese was much better and overall pretty good. For some reason our family felt like lamb - so we ended up getting grilled lamb, grilled veal, veal scallopini and a fried cod. Of those, the grilled veal was probably the best. The veal scallopini tasted like it had vinegar in it. It wasn't bad. Just unexpected. There also wasn't any accompaniment to the dish. Overall, I don't think I'd come back. But if it was one of the only ones open, I wouldn't be upset about it either.

The ambiance is charming, with a cozy, small-shop feel tucked away in the alleys of Italy. Umbria, the region's cuisine, is known for its bold flavors, local wines, and use of fresh herbs. We tried a few standout dishes: * Tagliolini al tartufo - 5/5 (Rich, earthy truffle flavor, perfectly cooked pasta) * Gnocchi al ragù - 4/5 (Soft gnocchi with a flavorful meat sauce) * Agnello (lamb) with roasted potatoes - 4/5 (Tender and well-seasoned, but could use a bit more crispiness) * Legumi e cereali soup (legume, cereal, and pumpkin soup) - 4/5 (Warm and hearty, great for a chilly day)

The service was pretty mediocre, as well as the food. I as expecting greatness, I mean a trattoria in Assisi!? C'mon!! I was definitely disappointed. My mother ordered gnocchi even though the sauce was pretty decent, they were made by flour, not potatoes, meaning no authentic. I had beef with rosemary and it was kinda bland, not what I was expecting. Prices were average, and they charge €2.5 Cover charge per person ( the infamous Cuperto) Not recommended

Fast forward to 2009, this restaurant was the location where my wife and I shared with our group of friends that we had just gotten engaged in Assisi! It holds a special place in my heart for those reasons, but also because of the kind owners and the delicious food! Since taking over I Monaci in 2020, Fabio and Chiara have infused the restaurant with their own unique magic, elevating the dining experience with exquisite, Michelin-star-worthy creations while preserving the heart of classic Italian cuisine. Chiara's culinary artistry shines through in every dish, particularly her unforgettable Norcina pasta, a dish typical in the region. This dish literally moved my wife to tears upon her first taste. Fabio, with his warm personality and infectious laughter, expertly navigates the pizza oven and dining room, creating a truly memorable experience for all as he shares about the restaurant or charmingly pokes fun at the diners! Every pasta and pizza are bursting with flavor and the presentation is beautiful! While I'm traveling, sometimes I crave a burger after lots of amazing pasta and pizza. It's pretty difficult to find a good hamburger in Italy. Well, this is your place for an amazing burger! And I haven't even mentioned their magnificent desserts! OH MY, you have to go right now!
