Walked in…read moreabout an hour before they closed, and about an hour before the entire family was to go on a 4 week vacation. They work hard, they deserve it! This wonderful lady greeted me (I wish I would have gotten her name) and explained they were out of pizza dough! I came in for the pizza and explained that this is the only pizzeria that I can find in Germany or France (in Marseille - supposedly a pizza mecca) that had Salsiccia (sausage / wurst) on their pizza. In the U.S. sausage is a standard offering, but apparently not in Europe. Anyway, she was very nice and showed me the Salsiccia they had left. I asked them if it is was possible for them to just make me a Salsiccia sandwich, and she very politely said, yes! I said I'm simple, just bread and sausage is all I need. I grabbed a Hefeweizen and anxiously waited. What they brought out was something spectacular (see pic). A nice crusty bread, salsiccia, marinated and sautéed cherry tomatoes, fresh Basil with slices of Buffalo Mozzarella (Buffelmozzarella) on the side. The Salsiccia was fantastic, a little mild (compared to the U.S.) but with extraordinary flavor. The tomatoes added something I was not expecting and the fresh buffelmozzarella was delicious. Oh, and that light, crusty bread, just like I like it. What a wonderful sandwich, not even on the menu, but maybe it will be! When I was finished, I thanked every one of them that I could see, especially the lady who greeted me and the man who made that very special sandwich. As great as that sandwich was, the best part of the night, for which I truly thanked them for, was for them treating me like family! They didn't have to do what they did, they could have said, sorry, see you later. But they went out of their way to make me feel welcomed and appreciated. They treated me like family, I will never forget that! To Everyone at Rossofuoco, thank you, very much!!! I hope you had (or are having) a safe and wonderful vacation! I will see you on my next trip to Erlangen.

Maybe, but hear me out before you jump to that conclusion. I've written it before, and I'll write it again, sometimes eateries that you stumble upon turn out to be so much more rewarding than those you set out for. We were looking for a different restaurant and couldn't find it. So, when standing on one side and looking across the Naab River, in the the quaint little town of Kallmünz, we saw a small patio filled with people drinking and dining. So off we walked across the small walking bridge that was built in 1752 (BTW, this little town needs its own praise). It had been lightly raining, so some tables on the patio were tucked in under the cover, while others were left to the elements a bit. They were at full capacity inside, so out in the elements we sat. We wouldn't have it any other way as it was just beautiful! The rain let up, and the ambiance was just so inviting. The staff (Waitress and I believe the owner based on the fact he was drinking beer while working) couldn't have been more accommodating. I believe we were the only Americans (or any English speaking people) there, so they pulled out the English menus and took it upon themselves to go ahead and precut our pizza for us. Note to new European travelers: pizzas are not precut. Most folk will use a knife and fork to eat their pizza, so if you want it a la American, ask them in advance to cut it for you. Not to belabor the point, but that view was so special. They had a gate for entrance right onto the patio. The river was literally no more than say 10 feet from the edge of the patio, which played host to an array of wildlife. While waiting for our food to arrive my daughter and wife strolled out and about to pass the time away. Speaking of food, yup, it's time to whip out those superlative adjectives again. Ok, for context, just two weeks prior we were in Rome. Obviously we dined out every night and I'm tellin' ya, hands down, the food at this little German Pizzeria beat the pants off of everything we tried in Rome. In my book, that speaks volumes! We shared a pizza, I had tortellini, so did my wife, but with a different sauce. My daughter had rigatoni and obviously we all dug into each other's dish a bit. Individually baked in their own dishes, of course. Very cheesy, great sauce, just awesome. The pizza was spot on as well! Good beer selection and all at an amazingly low price. Trust me, we've been traveling and eating out for the past straight month and by far, this has been the best value to date. Three main entrees, one pizza, three beers and one soda all for 40 Euros. Yes, you read that correctly! Fantastic meal, fantastic ambiance, good service, and a fantastic price! We are so going back, and if you haven't yet, you need to go there. If you have, you know! And you know you'll be going back too. Cheers!

The location is ideal: right in the heart of downtown, yet tucked away on a side street, as if someone had decided to bury a treasure and then camouflage it with pizza. The menu offers enough variety to turn any family gathering into a diplomatic negotiation. Pizza lovers will be happy, pasta fans too, and the undecided will have plenty of time to rethink their life goals. The portions are generous. Not "pleasantly filling," but "I suddenly understand hibernation" generous. Anyone who leaves here hungry has probably forgotten to order. The atmosphere is cozy and surprisingly well-suited for larger groups. Even when ten people are talking, laughing, and admiring their pizza at the same time, everything still feels relaxed. The service remains friendly, even when guests try to photograph the size of the portions because no one else would believe them otherwise. The value for money is excellent. You get the feeling that the owners are secretly protesting against inflation. After many years, La Filme has become a fixture in the city. Some come for the pizza, some for the pasta. Most come back eventually. Of course, no one has managed that yet.

There are some pasta dishes on the menu, but the star of the show here is the pizza, which in my opinion is absolutely delicious. Seating is available indoors and out. The prices are reasonable. Tip for American customers: In Germany "Pepperoni" refers to chilli peppers and "Salami" refers to the sausage. We've made this mistake a couple of times.
